Can these please be put under a cut in the future? I don’t want to be spoiled.. :(
I can’t wait to see Joshua and Katee do Benji’s West Coast Swing. I really like what little I’ve seen of B’s choreography, but more importantly, I think Joshua is just made for that kind of dancing and they’ll just kill. Here’s a daring (ha) prediction. . .it will be tons o’ fun.
Anyone else wondering what made them decide to start doing 2 numbers per pair already this week? We usually don’t get that until about Top 10, or sometimes even Top 8. I’m kinda baffled by this one. It’ll definitely be a huge time crunch to fit it all into 2 hours. And it will likely really separate the very good pairs from the fair-to-middling pairs…I’m not sure that they’ll all be able to handle the pressure of learning 2 new dances in a week.
Ah - I didn’t notice the new thread! So, I’m bringing my response over from the headlines thread:
Aw, my heart hurts for all of my Matt-loving MJ friends. Mostly because, I think Matt is f*#ked. I cannot fathom how they’ve been watching their dances and seeing Kourtni as the better of the two. I thought for sure that Thayne would be the goner this week - but after reading those spoilers, I have to reconsider. I think Nigel will boot Matt if given the chance. And, I think that’s bullshit.
I also think that the judges are sending a clear message about Will & Jessica. That message seems to be “give us a chance to get rid of her and we will”. And, they’re going first, which might already be a one-way ticket to the B3.
This morning, I was convinced that doom was ahead for Comfort & Thayne (and I was happy about that). The further info in the more detailed spoilers makes me think they might be saved by some clever manipulation. I’m really torn about my pool picks this week!
I cannot wait to see Joshua and Twitch do the contemporary!!!!! yay West Coast by BenjI?? That can only be a whole lot of fun.
I was sure that Comfort/Thayne would be the goners this week but after reading some spoilers, its not looking good for Jessica or Matt (I definitely prefer Matt over Kortni). I may have to edit my pool picks for this week after I see the judges reactions to their performances.
This is bizarre to me. I have no explanation for it, but it also leads me to believe that this week’s show may not be business as usual. Double elimination? No elimination? I smell a trick in here somewhere.
ETA: AInoob - we were reading each other’s minds lol.
I’m going to copy over the spoilers that Prime posted earlier in the headlines thread, so we’ll have them in one place:
More SYTYCD spoilers from Loqi.
I’ll give a nutshell review and then post more details.
- I was surprised to find that the couples danced two dances each.
- Mia Michaels choreographed contemporary pieces for Twitch/Kerrington (sp?) and for Joshua/Katee - and the former piece involved a special prop (a bed) and thrown objects. I personally thought it was a little heavy handed. The Joshua/Katee piece looked really good, but I was in the way back and for some reason the large overhead monitor wasn’t working for that dance. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing that one on Wednesday.
- Cecily and Olisa did two hip hop routines that were kind of meekly received - I believe Nigel described the one done by Kourtney/Matt as “hip hop on sleeping pills”. I was standing in the back of the mosh pit (directly in front of the judges) and I turned around to see one of them strongly disagreeing with Nigel. The other C and O routine was done by Courtney and Gev. Courtney actually got points for outdancing Gev - that routine was probably the most “hip hop” of any routines that have been done so far.
- Guest judges were NappyTab.
- Benji choreographed a West Coast Swing number for Joshua and Katee that was well received (but it was towards the end of the night and most of the crowd was pretty lifeless by that point).
- Mark/Chelsea performed a really intense Mandy Moore routine to Heart’s Alone and if I recall correctly, a FOXTROT. Both were great, especially the Mandy Moore.
- Will/Jessica opened up the show with a JIVE piece. Will got a tongue bath, Jessica got blamed for holding him back. Surprise. They also did another contemporary piece (Mandy Moore?) that was great - but I was distracted by shirtless Will.
- Twitch actually got some critiques for his paso doble which was a little shaky to me. His costume was rather dreadful - he wore these huge epaulets that only served to highlight the shortcomings in his stance.
- Comfort/Thayne did a broadway piece to Westside Story (?) that involved a sultry comfort and a waltz with a glorious lift by a new choreographer (the guest person?)
- Both me and the person I went with agreed that Comfort/Thayne and Matt/Kourtney will probably be up for elimination.
CORRECTION: Mark/Cheslie performed a FOXTROT, not a quickstep. Will/Jessica did a JIVE.
Typically Jul, the spoilers are in this thread - which MJ clearly marks as the “Spoiler” thread. Because MJ was out of town, the spoilers were posted in the headlines thread, since at the time there wasn’t any other place to put them.
Sorry about that. But, in the future you should be safe, provided you don’t click on this particular spoiler thread.
Thanks for moving the spoilers!
Do they usually cut the show down to an hour for Top 14? Maybe Fox didn’t have any filler programming and wanted a 2 hour show (I thought last week’s really dragged with only 8 dances)
This is my first year watching and I really love the guys. I’m only willing to part with Thayne and I wish the rest of them could make the Top 10. Why not partner them together? Hell, I could probably throw teeny little Gev around ; )
Thank you for making me feel better. *cries big, fat Mattears in corner*
If Umatt lasts till next week (*prays*)…oh, screw it. Umatt is DEAD if they can even go until next week.
And why the hell are there two dances each anyway? What did they do, squish 7 dances in an hour?
Gah, I have no idea what to do with my pool picks.
I STILL am sure that Thayne is going to be gone.
I’m fairly certain about Comfort, though, too. This will be her third trip in a row to the bottom. She has not been impressive at all in her solos. Surely, Will and Jessica will end up in the B3 next week. They can send her packing then.
But then again, do they want giant Kourtni dancing with Joshua? Or Twitch? Or Mark? Or GEV (oh boy that would be funny)?
I’m way confused now!!!!
I’m pretty sure that Gevney will be safe though, and that’s one of the bonus questions.
On the upside, it looks like my fave couple, HAWTsie, did well, as did my 2nd favorite, Manatee.
Thanks for bringing that over, spense. One more for those who just can’t get enough of spoilers. :)
Detailed SYTYCD spoilers from idreamofpeace.
I was SHOCKED that it was 2 dances each - the clips are about 15 seconds and pretty unnecessary. The dances seemed the same length.
Jessica/Will - Danced the jive and Mandy Moore’s “lyrical jazz.” As loqi said, Jessica got totally beat down by the judges EXCEPT Mary and Nigel for the jazz routine. The routine involved using a shirt as a prop and it was actually pretty cool.
Thayne/Comfort - Danced Andy’s Broadway and the Smooth Waltz. Nigel did not think Broadway was good but the others did and they all liked the Waltz.
Matt/Kortni - Danced Cecily and Olisa hip hop and Mambo. None of them liked the hip hop and most of the judges were lukewarm about the mambo. They seemed to like Kortni but ragged on Matt and the chemistry.
Courtney/Gev - Danced C & O hip hop and Broadway (from On the Town). Nigel said it was more funky than hip hop and they all seemed to agree that Courtney was better. They liked the Broadway.
Joshua/Katee - They danced a Mia contemporary and a Benji WCS. Tongue baths all around, but IMO, the WCS was nowhere NEAR as good as Pasha and Sara’s from last year. I really feel like these two could stand there and the judges would cream themselves.
Twitch/Kherington - Danced the Paso and Mia Contemporary. As said before, Twitch was dinged for some of his Paso technique (but was told he heated up halfway through) and the contemporary was beloved by all.
Mark/Chelsie - Danced Mandy Moore jazz and a foxtrot. Well received by all.
Cat Deeley is a doll and when a girl in the audience fainted, she ran to get water for her (while the medics were being sent in).
If you have any questions, I’ll try and get on tomorrow to post more.
ETA: These are not the order the dances went in, but I can’t for the life of me remember except that Jessica/Will started and Courtney and Gev ended.
I bet that Matt will last, didnt Thayne really really suck at that type of dancing last week, didnt he dance the waltz already or something similar?? He was stiff and unnatural I thought. Thayne has got to be the one to go. I would normally bet that Comfort goes with him BUT they keep saying Jessica is holding Will back and they really love him and if Comfort is any little bit better than Jessica they might keep her to see what she can do with Will?? Just a thought.
Go Joshua who I would like to see paired up with Courtney sometime, my favorite girl after last week.
I, too, am glad to see that HAWTsie did well. But I was a little disappointed in their picks; I wish I would see them do Broadway or anything other than the foxtrot. Grrr. On the other hand, Manatee seems to have been undeniably LUCKY in their picks this week. Mia and Benji- wow!
To be honest, I’m only looking forward to these two couples.
It seems like the judges will always harp on Will’s talent, Jessica’s lack of talent, Katee/Joshua’s freaking-amazing-standing-ovation-worthy performance, and Matt’s stick up his ass. Can we skip the results show already?
Well, what’s going to determine that are the solos. As long as Thayne is the big pile of suck he was last week, and Matt’s as good as he was, then Thayne will definitely be the one to go. Um, well, I hope. Please let PermaThmile go…
That’s because they all “pick their dances out of a hat”, no? Not that I don’t like Manatee or anything (I love them, in fact), but for once I’d like to see them land with Dan and pull whatever mediocre choreography Dan has for them off.
I’m going to guess you’re right on that, for two reasons. First, they get to go last, and second I think they’re both pretty likable.
If I had to guess, I’d say that Thayne & Jessica have the smallest fanbases individually. And, I don’t think either of their partners have a strong enough base to save them from B3-ville.
I think the judges are making a huge mistake with their constant tongue-bathing of Will, followed by a swift gut-kick to Jessica. While I believe they’ll get their desired result of being able to boot Jessica and re-partner Will, I also think there’s a chance the pity people feel for Jessica will start turning to displaced resentment toward Will.
Plus, I also think that Twitch, Joshua and Mark have far too much of a head start in the popularity department for Will to make up the ground now. Granted, last season Danny spent a fair amount of time in the B3 after his erroneous “arrogant” edit. But, while Will may be a great dancer, he’s certainly no Danny.
I was really hoping that Jess/Will would be B3 last week, so that we could wind up seeing a Comfort/Will pairing and see what happens with that. Based on what the spoilers have told us…I have to think it is entirely possible that we’ll get to see that pairing next week. I don’t know that Comfort is really any better than Jessica is…but she is definitely very different. That could make the chemistry different, and maybe, just maybe, with better chemistry, Will can bring the kind of magic to his partner routines that he brings to his solos. We can hope, at least. Granted, who knows what’s going to happen, but that is what I’d like to see happen.
Still completely befuddled about them doing 2 dances this week though. I have no clue why they are doing that, unless they really wanted to go ahead and up the level of difficulty/stress to separate the field a bit more.
To those who’ve watching this show for a while — is “the Hat” known for coughing-up just the right dances for Nigel’s favorites? I mean it’s obvious that he’s way way up Joshua and Katee’s beautifully coreographed asses. I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised — all these shows are manipulated to within an inch of their lives…. but it makes me sad. Wide-eyed sad, just like finding out about Santa…
Anyway - he’d best not screw with Mark. or I’ll…. um….what? I’ll threaten to never watch again, just like I did AI.
Why do I do this to myself?
I’ll vote vote vote for Matt this week too — just to help out my new friends here at MJ’s.
…pretty much, yeah. It’s a lovely, beautiful thing for the judges’/producers’ favorites, but it just fucks with all the other contestants. I mean, seriously, if they REALLY “pick their dances out of a hat”, we’d have seen a couple do the same exact style for two weeks in a row already. It’s been 3 full seasons, and we haven’t seen that happen yet.
Then again, there have been times when favorites have gotten the dreaded Quickstep and pulled it off brilliantly (like Mary said, Jamile [hip-hop] and Nick [contemporary] in S1, Lacey [Latin ballroom] & Kameron [contemporary (?)]in S3). But for the most part, the favorites usually end up with the better routines.
Oh, don’t. I’m sure HAWT will be fine (and he’s got a pretty big following to back up any sucky performances). He’s at least Top 6 material, if you ask me. (:
Yep, plenty of feelings out there that “the hat” deals out what the judges would prefer, though at times I’ve wondered if it does. Honestly, with some dances/couples, it wouldn’t matter what they picked or how they danced, the judges are all over them. They LOVE their cinderella stories esp, blurred truth or not. Drives me crazy, especially since, in dance, it’s much harder for the general public to catch on to sloppy technique. Whereas everyone has an opinion on talented singing. ;) So the judges on SYTYCD hold a lot of sway, I feel, on casual viewers, moreso than on Idol.
Can I just say I’m crossing everything that Thayne survives another week to hopefully pull a Mia rountine next week? Not at the cost of Matt, but somehow, please keep him a little longer…
Also - looking forward to Benji’s routine!!
Regarding the hat, I’ve been wondering for some time now if perhaps all the different types of dances are put into the hat for the particular couple EXCEPT for the type of dance they did the week before. For instance, say that for the second week, Joshua and Katee went first in the hat pick. All styles would be put in the hat except for hip hop. They picked Broadway. Therefore, the next couple’s hat would be loaded for all dances, except for the style they did the previous week and for Broadway. For the third couple, the hat would be loaded except for the style they did the previous week and for Broadway and the style the second couple picked. And so on and so on. That way, it’s assured that no couple dances the same style two weeks in a row and all of the dances that Nigel (or whomever) wants danced in a particular week are covered.
yay - a benji routine. i’ll always love him and his dancing ( i don’t care how weird he gets!) and i’m so happy joshua and katee get it!!!!!
HAWT (i’m guessing is mark and chelsie) are doing great can’t wait to see their routines.
i’m guessing they are doing two routines to fill the two hours they have been given. which is cool to me but will be super hard on the dancers towards the end of the competition.
What C-lyn said makes sense and Hawt is Mark, oh I thought you were referring to Matt. I loved Mark and Chelsie last week and sure hope they say but I dont believe that they are overpraising Joshua. He really is so good and blows me away that that big ole guy can move so lightly, with such ease. I was not not prepared for him to do that and started liking him the best so far because of it
HAWT = Mark; HAWTsie = Mark/Chelsie. Just to clear that up. lol
Well, that makes sense, c-lyn. I guess they do that for the partners too, once they get to the later rounds. We’ll never really know, though.
Anyway, I’m looking forward to seeing Benji’s choreography again! I thought his routine for Pasha & Sara last year was just fantastic, so hopefully Manatee can pull their routine off at that level, if not higher. Hopefully.
Matt’s stick is back up his ass, isn’t it? And I have a feeling it’s not going to leave anymore whatever the hell he pulls out of the hat. If he even pulls out anything anymore, that is.
These spoilers are making me crazy, should I stick with Comfort/thayne or take the plunge and throw Jessica in the mix, this is making me crazy! Can’t wait for the Josh/katee dances, Josh still my number one, even with all the pimping from the judges, love that boy..
Matt still had a chance to survived the boot if he and Khourtni back at bottom 3. It depend on who was on bottom 3. Cause If Matt got booted and Khourtni not, they had to pick a pretty tall partner for Khourtni.
So if only Will, Twitch , Mark in bottom 3, they will kick out Matt. if Matt, Gev and Thayne in bottom 3, he will be saved if the judges still wanted Khoutni around.
Or maybe the judges can just kick both of them out.
But from some past experiences, Thayne and Comfort was at judges bottom feed right now. Unless they can produce a miracle dance at their solo at result show, they were gonna go home.
Comfort can hope that Will and Jessica got in bottom 3 too. Maybe Jessica will be going home. But at top 6, Comfort will be heading home. Unless Nigel really wanted a bgirl in top 5 and Khourtni times will arrive and got to send home in top 6.
My top 5 prediction:
Mark, Will, Joshua, will 100% be there.
Gev and Twicth still not so sure, depend if the judges wanted all 3 hip hop male in top 5 or both Gev and Twitch can stay in the top 3 at top 6 result show. You never know.
For the girls:
Kherington,Katee, Chelsea, Coyrtney will be 100 % in top 5 unless 3 of them somehow ended up in bottom 3 in top 6 results which was pretty impossible.
The last place will fight between Comfort and Khourtni maybe. I do hope the judges send Comfort home, cause she just didnot do very well. Much like Musa in season 2.
At least Khourtni got praise from the contemporary routine and Comfort didnot went they do the Krump.
I said at the beginning of this, that I did not see how these guys were going to be as wonderful as last years dancers. Like I said I have really LOVED a lot of the routines and I LOVE Joshua but I havent been as moved by any of them as much as I was by a whole lot of last years routines. So, I am going to put last year aside for now and look at these guys with an open mind and stop comparing or my enjoyment of this show will not be there so much. Bye Danny and Neil and Sabre and Hok and Dom - just for now. I think that SpenserJ told me that more towards the end of the show they all get better and so, I am going to wait and hope.
This would be my guess as well. Of course, sometimes I’ve wondered if maybe Mia says - I want to choreograph for so and so this week - and then their hat is filled with 5 slips of paper that all say “contemporary”. Truly I have no idea if the hat is really random at all.
As far as the pimping goes, while I think I’ve seen some unfair treatment this season toward some of the perceived lesser partners - I don’t really get a feeling of over-praise for anyone.
Right now, I think the majority of the peeps getting the pimping are definitely earning it.
That would make sense, c-lyn. Besides which, the hat is done in front of the audience right after elims, yes? Not that the producers can’t pull a magic act switching it up, but has anyone ever read reports from witnesses suggesting anything fishy was going on?
As far as pimpage this season, I’d tend to agree, spense. It hasn’t been as over-the-top as in previous years. Twitchington are a little over-praised, IMO (even though I do like them), but the audience already loved Twitch going into the live show, so the judges can’t be making too much of a difference for them anyway.
You know, really, that would be fine with me. It would make me so happy to see Dan on my tv! And I think that Manatee can pull anything off.
I’d agree with this. Although, I do feel that Manatee are getting praised a little more than others who are equally as good. Now, that’s my subjective opinion. Everyone has different ideas about what is “good” and what is not. I still love Manatee though, and I doubt anything will change that. It’s not their fault what the judges say. I’m a bit puzzled now, though, at why Katee got the bad edit in the Vegas episode.
I’ve watched this show since S2, but for some reason, I don’t know the answer to this question. Could someone help me out? My question is, has anyone been in the bottom 3 for 3 consecutive weeks and not been sent home? Thanks in advance!
I know HAWT is probably ok for at least a few more weeks. But that’s not the entire point really. The bullshit with the manipulation and Nigel? Well, it’s all very insulting — that he thinks we’re stupid and can’t figure out the crap they pull. You can’t insult your audience again and again and expect them to keep coming back. (Even though we do, time after time after time.) Karma’s gonna get that rich fool… something has to. It just does.
And watch I will. Sheesh.
Danny was last year. He and Anya were in the bottom 3 for top 16/14/12 weeks. Anya went home that last week, but Danny didn’t, of course. :)
That’s right. I still might stick with Comfort though. Comfort and Danny are NOT on the same level. He was worth saving, she is not.
Yeah, but I think they want her on tour to balance it out. Otherwise you’d basically have 4 contemporary girls and 1 ballroom. If they keep her around, it will probably be 3 contemp, 1 ballroom, 1 hiphop.
Which is also why I’m unsure whether or not Gev will make top 10. Do they really want 3 hip hop guys on tour? Especially if they want Comfort around, too.
Sarah, stop trying to confuse poor KK. You’re making this so much harder on her!!
Oh, and Dan Karaty needs to be on. It’s been wayyyyyyy too long. I miss seeing him on my tv!!!!!111!!!!111!!!!!
Found this on TWOP - HAWT (Mark) is in this Jasmine Trias music video.
Jasmine Trias YouTube
He appears at :28 and during some of the group dancing to the right — and then again (I think) at 2:10.
Not much of him, but he’s so great — she should have just had him dancing behind her. (Not that we paid any attention to her anyway, but?)
I will pay the price of having Comfort on tour and Gev not being there if it means Matt can just barely make it to the tour. *dodges tomatoes*
No tomatoes from me Hisaki –
Nice to see you back to your old self, btw.
Nor from me, Hisaki. It will be a Mattrocity for him to miss the tour.
