Anoop Desai Plays The North Carolina State Fair Tonight – Join the Cellcast!

Aw, Anoop Desai must be so excited!

He’s taking a break from life in Los Angeles, where he’s working on getting his career started, to come back home to North Carolina to play The North Carolina State Fair.

He’s performing tonight, and his first post-Idol concert will be cell cast by some of his fans.

Anoop has put together a band, made up of some musical friends, and will perform 14 or 15 songs, including Donny Hathaway’s “For All We Know” and some of his American Idol favorites like, “Caught Up,” “Always on My Mind,” “True Colors,” and “Everything I Do.”

Check out the cellcast tonight, right HERE at 7:30 ET.

  • Set list was soooo good.

    I want to marry it.

  • Alison probably saw the picture.

  • Dang it!I missed the live streaming I heard the original–nice–sort of jamming with just the guitar as accompaniment.

Here’s a link to a snippet of Let Me Love You (by Mario)-video at the bottom:

And that pic came from this article:

Guess I’ll have to wait for videos to come out…but been hearing that it was good…

Good luck to Anoop! Will be waiting for that first single!

  • Whoops, I was at the movies. Harry Potter was playing on campus and I had to see it again. You know.

That’s not a bad picture of Anoop though. As far as pictures with your mouth open? that’s pretty good.

but tons of anoop fans were there so there will be video. So you guys just wait for that. I’m excited.

  • the snippet of Let Me Love You is not bad.

    :/

That clip was questionable. Sounds like he’s trying really hard. I doubt anyone big is in the audience… just some fans and people who were curious or wandered in… looks like it was inside.. it was kind of chilly tonight, and it was only $5. So.

  • Did he really do a cover of Battlefield?

  • Did he really do a cover of Battlefield?

I think so. That song is annoying. Apparently, he did an original song as well.

  • As far as I know, he sang 4 songs from AI: AOMM,True Colors, EID, Caught Up plus Donny’s For All We Know, Battlefield, Let Me Love U By Mario, a song by Trey Songz, Carolina in My Mind, Down by Jay Sean, With You by CB and the original song.

    Excited to see the vids…

^You are right, Let Me Love You …Anoop was sort of straining on the high notes….Anoop’s more of a natural tenor than a countertenor I think….and a lot of the R&B singers are like countertenors with the sort of MJ/sopranish/girlish, shrilly voices….but his tone is really beautiful.

It’s actually impressive that he came up with that many songs considering his “band” was only able to rehearse several days before the concert because one came from Georgia just a few days ago…..
plus the most members aren’t really professional musicians….they’re friends.

The concert was in Dorton Arena so it’s indoors–

  • Yeah, I was surprised by the amount of songs- I was not expecting that.

He sings well, so I’m not worried about his performance overall just because of let me love you…

  • I am so happy to hear that Anoop did such a nice job! The guy has impressive vocals and I do hope someone from a label was there to take it all in.

Wish I could hear Carolina in My Mind; such a sweet song. I hope many more doors open up for Anoop.

I don’t really like that photo. He’s a cute guy with the clean shaven look. I would have loved to see him on the Christmas tour rather than Michael.

  • Reading the comments, I’m glad he did so well. I would have listen to some if i had been home tonight. Will catch up on YT if there some videos posted. Anoop is a good singer

  • I am an Adam fan but always thought that Anoop had the second best technical vocals’ ¦

Always thought that too. I would love to hear the original song, and the Donny Hathaway song. Idol soulboys love Donny.

  • Just got back from the concert. I didn’t take any videos though. Sorry. I’m sure many did. Generally, a good concert. Seemed like it was done quickly and on the cheap though. On some songs, Anoop sang to a pre-recorded tape and it was weird that his taped voice, at times, was the dominant voice. Also, some of the transitions were odd with some songs just fading away while Anoop would be getting ready for the next one. This all could very well be because the guys only had a short time to prepare for this gig. It seemed like they relied on previous time performing together.

Would have liked to hear more tempo variety. I’m also not a fan of Battlefield (actually can’t stand it), so to hear Anoop sing it in the finale fairly similarly to the original was disappointing. And Carolina in My Mind? Anoop brought up a couple of times how this concert was like a farewell to North Carolina where he’s lived all his life. Obviously, this is huge for him. So I understand why they played the song, but I wish they’d changed it up more. I got the impression that these were songs his group did together, plus some AI songs. It often sounded tightest when they were harmonizing which is most likely what their old arrangements were centered on.

Also Anoop seemed to strain at times, avoiding some high notes and being oddly quiet on some lower notes. My favorites were his original song and the haunting beautiful ‘For All We Know’.

  • Hey MJ did you hear Anoop’s original song written by him and @DavidMikush? They performed it tonight.

    It’s absolutely gorgeous.

I’m pretty sure I also heard John Legend’s Used To Love U (the one that starts “holla, holla, holla”) from his first CD. Unless the crap cellcast fooled my ears – always a possibility.

Hee hee, the only Trey Songz tune I know is “LOL :-) ” Hope Noopy sang that!

Will def check out the vids.

Yes they do! I thought Anoop’s original song in that twitvid was reminiscent of a Donny song, especially the first part. Nice.

  • @movin2thabeet, thanks for you review of the concert. i only experienced the cell cast but have kind of similar thoughts/feelings. the original & the donny hathaway song were also my fav of the night.

I pretty much expected this. He did only have about a month to put all this together. In fact, I think one of the band members only came in about a few days ago. And I think he or Pablo had previously tweeted that they were laying down some tracks in studio, so I’m thinking that was some of the pre-recorded stuff. I was only able to listen to the cellcast, but from what I heard, it sounded pretty good. I was impressed they put all that together with so little time. And it was only $5

  • awww i missed anoop! nice to see his lovely photo up here

  • that’s not a very good picture of Anoop, is that new?

Anyway, I am very interested on new music from Anoop so I hope something comes up for him soon!
