I like that the pimped contestants and the invisible ones are pretty evenly dispersed. I think Jonathan and Karla and Ade and Melissa are the only two who haven’t had significant coverage, but both pairs should do well in the genres they were given!
Ooooooh thank you mj! I’m glad that Jason is with Caitlin. I liked her a lot and I think I’m going to like him based on what I’ve seen so far and what I remember of him from last year. I think Jason/Caitlin, Evan/Randi, and Brandon/Janette may end up being my favorite pairs.
i really like randi’s personality and i dig evan so i think that might be my pair this year. but we’ll see!!
Kupono and Wade!!! :clap_tb: Next best thing to Mark and Wade, which sadly never happened last season. I hope it’s a super weird and Wadeishly awesome piece. Aiiiieeeeeee Wade’s back! I have a feeling this will be my fave of the night. Frig, it’s already my favorite because Wade in all of his glory will be part of the practice clippage. :smoke_tb:
I bet Evan and Randi are the cutest thing ever. She’s tiny and fiesty as I recall and he’s a little sparkplug.
Also Louis’s choreo is outstanding and usually wasted on the amateurs of DWTS. STOKED to see what he has cooked up. Oh yes. Kayla will be fab I bet. Maks has a lot to live up to, though, as far as the hot russian latin dancer tradition goes.

I’m excited for Evan & Randi too! They seem very well-matched height-wise & that compact body type that can be very explosive & powerful. Plus jazz is the perfect “draw” for them. (I’m not at all convinced it’s random these first weeks…)
Haha I like how there’s no style next to Wade… just “Wade.” That pretty much sums it up though. SO EXCITED to see his routine! And also I’m super glad we don’t have to sit through Tyce judging (..this week, anyway).
^I hear ya re: Tyce judging. Too bad we DO have to sit through a Tyce Broadway though. Ugg. Tyce is pretty much cookie cutter choreo by numbers with very rare flashes of semi-brilliance like the Allison/Ivan Why piece of Season 2.
Honestly, I don’t think it’s random, like, ever. I’m pretty sure they gave up that pretense in season 3??

Not crazy about Tyce’s choreography either but I figure the weeks they have him are kind of a break for the dancers. Looking forward to the show!
I could live without Tyce…forever. Other than that, I’m VERY excited about tonight!! What couple will I fall instantly in love with? I can’t wait to find out!
Evan and Randi! Yeah!!! I think they will do awesome with Tyce’s jazz choreography.
Oh, and please tell me that Dan Karaty is judging. I need some Dan Karaty in my life.

I’m excited for tonight’s show. Too early for me to know who my favorites are yet although I know i’m definitely rooting for Brandon.
Tony lucked out with getting hip hop the first week. It looks like the show wants him to stay for awhile.
Evan should do GREAT with jazz.
I really like Vitolio so I hope he can pull braodway off. He didn’t get a lot of air time so I”m not sure how versitile he is.
Brandon is so far one of my favorites, but the Waltz puts me to sleep. I have to remember to not judge the dance but the dancers. lol
I think Dan left the show on bad terms. He was not happy with the casting last season or the “street dancer wins” meme or something and was pretty vocal about it as I recall. Not a loss choreography wise, but he was one of the more intuitive, fair minded judges. *sad*
On an up note, no Dan, but I read those TWoP spoilers, and according to Twitter there is yet another amazing choreographer returning after a long hiatus. BFree is back in the hizzy fo shizzy! :jittery_tb: In honor of the occasion here’s some old school Wade and Brian dancing a little Britney/Slave For U. (Starts around 3:30.) Oh, the hair tragedies in that vid.
Also, Brandon and Jeanette are dancing the Foxtrot, not the waltz per the newer spoilers. Pretty sure Danny (contemp) and Anya (latin) performed a fantastic foxtrot fairly early in their season, so the producers might be going for a Danny/Anya 2.0 vibe with these two.
Apparently I’m going to get my super weird and Wadeishly awesome wish. Lovin the concept that I read for this piece. I hope the television audience isn’t too freaked out to vote for it, though.

I think that Tyce does the same type of routine OVER AND OVER (if I have to watch some Cabaret number ONE MORE TIME…). I love Dan Karaty, so too bad about his falling out. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Wade, so I’m excited to see him back. And I am a HUGE Adam Shankmann fan (he is an excellent judge; so supportive, and he loved Marksie last season, so how could I not adore him?!
. I do not know the couples well enough to judge them, but I am stoked.
And NapTab: God, I love their choreo (Bleeding Love with Marksie: my favorite routine of the season, bar none). This should help with my Idol Detox.
Thanks for the spoilers on SYTYCD mj, I forgot to look for them today, so caught up in the Idol drama. I love getting spoilers for Dance a day ahead of time, so I feel like I know what to watch for. Cant wait for tonite. And two are voted off tomorrow nite, Sad. :frown_tb:
I wondered where Brian Friedman went!
For the longest time I kept getting he and Karaty mixed up and about the time I learned all their differences Friedman up and disappeared.
I always enjoyed him.
Some of those style pairings are way too knollish to suit me. Evan, Phillip, Kupono, and Tony favored, check.
Brandon criticized for not being emotionally available and so given/sabotaged with a standard? Check.
I like Evan, Kupono, and Phillip and don’t get Brandon* so I am fine with the matches- just think they are a little too blatant.
*I get Brandon’s power and technique, but he leaves me cold.

I will be very sad if Dan Karaty isn’t back ever. I really liked him as a judge, even if his choreography was lacking. Plus he’s good eye candy. Heh.
I’m disappointed – I thought Nigel said that Shane Sparks would be choreographing a routine for the first week. I really MISS his choreography. NapTab are fine, but I can only take so much lyrical hip hop. I’m also surprised Mia isn’t choreographing this week. Excited about Wade being back though, as well as seeing what Louis van Amstel can do for two great dancers, instead of one pro dancer and one celebrity.
^ I got tired of the DWTS judges often telling Louis his choreo was too ambitious for a non-dancer. Should be fun to see him work with two aspiring dancers who are more likely to be up for the challenge.
I agree about the knollishness, but it should make for a decent show. At least versatility is a big deal, too, and showing some sort of growth arc, so there are a few ways this could shake down. It’s interesting that the two hip hop guys are assigned hip hop in the same week, and both are NappyTabs routines. It makes it very easy to directly compare Phillip to Tony right off the bat and find one of them to be better than the other in their own speciality. I’m guessing Kayla will stand out for tackling a discipline that’s outside her wheelhouse and keeping up with Maks (who should nail a samba), kinda like Benji shocked everyone by throwing down during the Too Much Booty hip hop with Donyelle right out of the gate, or Mark getting points for being surprisingly convincing during the Argentine tango…..
I am excited to find out that Kayla did so well. She was my outstanding pick last week after I watched the girls dance the group number from West Side Story . Her extensions and stretch are remarkable. I’m also really pumped for the Jai Ho number. Woot! I love this show!
I can’t think my own thoughts so I’m just going to copy Sarah. She’s much more articulate than I am.
And I didn’t know Dan left the show…perhaps I should get a petition going on that….

I was posting while I was on my lunch break, so I forgot to say… are there any interviews or anything where Dan confirms that he’s not coming back? I don’t remember seeing anything, but I definitely could have missed it.
Didn’t he do some choreography for AGT or something similar? I thought I did read something about that last summer/fall.
