If you really think the contestants that make their way to Idol are “unknowns” or “plucked from obscurity”, implying they didn’t have experience opening for other acts, playing smaller venues or trying out on other talent shows, you are deluding yourself…the vast majority of all the potential contestants that tried out for Idol have had their talent (or lack there of) out there for public viewing. I do not fault them for that! This is the nature of the business.

It’s a ladder. You start wherever you’re able to get your opening, and continue until you have either got your foot in the door, and you’re able to continue up that ladder, or you’ve exhausted all of your chances.

Kristen is welcome in Country, she’s welcome in Pop. It’s ridiculous to say otherwise.

Knowing Kristen is a blessing. She gives of herself wholeheartedly. Anyone that says otherwise does not know her. Making disparaging comments about her is, IMHO, a sign of the commentator’s poor character-evaluation-skills. It appears as a rather lousy attempt to sway the public, and it is not worth the space it is written in.

Frankly I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t want to see a roster full of Diana DeGarmos and Carmen Rasmussens. Let me see the person who has been kicked around a bit and had some doors slammed in their face. Certainly makes for a more entertaining show.

Diana was on America’s Most Talented Kids and had performed in some way most of her life. But I would say that Kelly Clarkson probably qualifies as someone who was kicked around and had doors slammed in her face and never got the deals that some of these people have had. And Carrie Underwood, while she had tried a little bit, doesn’t exactly qualify as someone who’s been kicked around and had many doors slammed in her face.

So really, any way you look at it, there is a good argument for and against many types of experience. I don’t really have a huge problem with them as long as they weren’t super well known before like already achieved star status in some way.

Every season have people who have tried and failed, and they don’t win. Nikki McKibbon season one did pop star. She didn’t win. Syesha did The One, or whatever it was called. It probably hurt her as much as the experience might have helped her. Carly, KlC, and Michael had major record deals. Double edged sword, just check the archives.

The angsting every year is entertaining, but futile. I try to stay out of the spoiler threads because I don’t like to have any preconceived notions. I rarely watch Fox so I don’t even see the commercials to know who they are prepimping or not. For the casual viewer (I am not talking about us, we are far from casual viewers) this means nothing. Frankly I admire a little perseverance in my contestants. It shows imho that they are committed when if they don’t succeed, they try, try again. Doesn’t bother me at all.

However, her opening for a bunch of acts, I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t really care about because, hey, she was still trying to land a major label contract and hadnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t gotten it yet. And the fact that she was able to land gigs opening for a bunch of semi-well known or well-known acts, doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t mean anything if nothingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s come from it other than to show that sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s worked hard at her craft and is taking it seriously.

She’s had her name and face out there a lot more than others who’ve worked on music for years and so far, it’s not landed her a deal. Plus what’s with her sudden interest in pop music…before she was all about country. It’s like Jessica Simpson suddenly deciding to go country to keep her career afloat. I don’t mind some change as an artist, but drastic genre changes to save one’s career comes off as desperate to me. I like people to figure out who they are and stick with it.

Heck next we will start seeing Canadian Idol losers on American Idol.

I disagree to an extent. David Archuleta was on Star Search when he was 12, but he was totally different on Idol…different voice and more maturity. Doesn’t mean that should’ve been his one and only shot. If they’ve been on another country’s Idol show though, yeah that would be a bit much.

I hope Stevie Wright makes it past the top 50, she was really good.
