Stevie Wright – American Idol Season 8 Top 36 Contestant

Stevie Wright – Phoenix – 16 – Phelan, CA – AuditionHwood BubblySemi Final Week 1AI Hollywood VideoTop 36 Video

Stevie is young, but much like Paris Bennett, her jazzy grown-up song interpretations belie her youth.   She’s precocious, but not annoyingly so. Too bad she’s had so little camera time, at this point she’s little more than fodder.

I disagree about her being fodder. She got decent airtime for her audition and seems fairly popular right now.

  • St.Lucia:

I think of all the “teenies” she’s the one that I think will probably withstand it. They can’t all get through, but I liked her voice the most out of the bunch that was presented if I compare her to Ariana and Casey Carlson and I’m sure tehre are a few more I’m forgetting.

  • t2:

With the weak group of women this year, she has a shot at making it — maybe as a wild card because her voice is really good.

  • widz:

I really like her, but they haven’t shown her again..so I’ve kinda forgotten about her in favour of Anoop and Matt G

  • marco5ny:

I think she could make it through to the top 12 if the stars align in two ways: 1) a majority of idol voters think the show is more about music than personality and 2) she gives a standout performance.

Three women in the first group are, to varying degrees, polarizing and will only make it through if their quirky personalities resonate with voters: Tatiana, Alexis or Jackie. Stevie’s real competition is therefore her fellow pretty burnettes with nice voices, Anne Marie and Casey, who are all relatively interchangeable. Since the top woman from the group will advance, Stevie will have to give a killer performance that outshines Anne Marie and Casey.

The number three pick from the group will almost certainly be male and she’s too non-descript to become a wildcard pick.

Unfortunately I’m just not sure she has it in her.

I like her but am not sure she’ll get more votes than Jackie or Alexis unless she has a great performance.

  • t2:

Well, she is the only girl who decided not to do a pole dance for her Happy Dance so she eons ahead of all of the rest of them there.

Unfortunately for her, I’ll be busy hoping that Anoop and Michael Sarver get voted in — and with the way they are doing it this year, can’t spread the love.

  • Little Boy Blue:

Of the teenies, Stevie and Jasmine Murray have had the most airtime. Arianna Afsar and Casey Carlson have close to zero singing airtime other than their initial auditions. Jumping up and down for joy at being chosen doesn’t count.

What I’ve seen of Arianna other than her audition for instance are from YOUTUBE
and it tells me she has the charisma and breeziness and the voice to make it to the semis, but again zero airtime means you don’t get to accumulate fans.

Airtime tells me WHO of the teenies TPTB WANT to advance and it looks like Stevie and/or Jasmine are the chosen ones.

  • Dr. Tracey:

I like her best out of the first group of girls.

I could be wrong, but I think only Jasmine had more airtime. We really didn’t see much of Stevie other than her audition. We saw a bit of her in Hollywood just like we saw of Casey (forgetting lyrics if I’m not mistaken). Which is not a lot more than Arianna. I think those 3 have had the same air time, but Stevie’s audition made more of an impression, at least for me.
In the first group I think Stevie will really stand out by comparison with Casey, who is one of the weakest in the top 36.
I think she could make the top 12.

  • Tess:

My only hope for my choices this year are that all 3 of the wildcards come from group 1. Can’t believe how this deck got stacked!

  • primeminister:

I like Stevie best out of all the girls in group 1, but can she beat Jackie or Ann Marie?

  • I’ve been underwhelmed by her singing so far. She has a good instrument, for sure, but she seems a bit…timid. At least to me.

She seems older than she really is. If she can keep her composure on the show, which she appears to have done so far, I think she has a chance to get in, whether it’s by wildcard pick, or voters.

  • J.S.G.:

Stevie’s voice flattens out in her lower register so I fear her career in Idol will be short. But I love the look and personality.

  • BootStar:

I’d kinda forgotten about Stevie, but going back and reviewing the clips (thanks, MJ!), she really has a helluva lot of poise and potential for a 16-year-old. I also think with a slight change in hairstyle (bangs are your friend, Stevie!), she could be a knock-out. Ann Marie better bring it or I’ll be throwing Stevie a few votes next week.

  • IdolFanatic:

I love this girl…my favorite girl thus far. She’s very fresh and natural. And she’s got very nice control of her voice. She’s very normal which might get overshawdowed by bigger voices and theatrics unfortunately. Love her though.

  • New York Avon Lady:

Stevie and Felicia Barton are the best singers of the girls, IMO. Predict they will go very far in this competition.

  • bean99:

I think the problem for Stevie is that she’s been singing old songs which won’t attract the younger viewers. Jasmine’s performances will help her to get them.

I hope you’re right because I really like what I’ve heard from Felicia too. So glad she’s in now over the plant Joanna.

Well Bubbly is pretty contemporary and popular. And At Last is the song Kelly Clarkson sang at her audition, so I think she’ll be okay. She has a very fresh Colbie Callait vibe about her that I think people will like…kind of like Brooke did last year perhaps.
