Studio Audience for Paula Abdul’s Video Taping Left Waiting Over 4 Hours

Reader and comment regular CarieB attended the taping of Paula Abdul’s video for her new song, “Dance Like There’s No Tomorrow”, from Randy Jackson’s upcoming album Randy Jackson’s Music Club, Vol. 1. The video will debut during the Super Bowl pre-game show next Sunday.

Well, it looks like Pauler is up to her usual divatastic ways. Carie never got to see the taping. Here’s part of a comment she left in Sunday’s headlines post.

Just returned from the taping of Pauler’s new song with Randy’s band at Fox Studios. Guess what? I never got to see it. As it turned out, I invested 6 hours of my precious weekend time to stand outside in the rain, then wait in a room with a hundred other people with no seats for 4-1/2 hours, finally not being able to tolerate the looks on my kids faces, so we left.

Every once in awhile, someone would come in and say it would only be “15 more minutes”, each time it took longer and longer for anyone to even come back and say anything to us. No food. No water. You get the picture.

They had us get there at 11:30 and then we heard Paula didn’t get there until 1:00. Of course, there’s hair and makeup, and staging, choreography, lighting checks, etc.. When we finally left at 4:00, Paula hadn’t even run through her routine herself - it had only been done with a stand in and the backup dancers.

Damn. I owe you one Carie…

Unfortunately, you know things like this are going to happen, and they happen more often than not. Would a big crowd turn out for this taping if they knew ahead of time that Paula would be replaced by a stand-in? Business as usual in Hollywood.

So sorry to hear that CarieB - sucks that you spent all that time for nothing - would have been fun to see Pauler.

Actually, they did give us chips and water. Every taping I’ve ever been to has made me wait in line for hours. At least they let us get out of the rain and sit inside.

Aww, sounds like a nightmare. Thanks for the report.

Making an audience wait for 5 or 6 hours? I could see that for peeps waiting for stand-by tickets (I know people sleep outside overnight for SNL stand-by tickets). But not for folks who secured tickets ahead of time.

I’ve been to tapings, and waiting that long has not been my experience.

Eh, it’s pretty obvious Idol makes more money from the TV show than the labels will ever make from the kids afterwards. Yes even Carrie, Daughtry and Kelly.

I imagine both Randy and Pauler are doing fairly well financially. I suspect the motivation behind this album (and Pauler’s failed reality show) is ego.

LOL, it would be kinda funny if the song outsold Daughtry or Carrie. I’m not holding my breath!

Even if there were legit circumstances, there’s no excuse for the “only 15 more minutes” BS you were continually given. I mean, I know Pauler is a STAH! and you audience members were just the unwashed masses, but common decency is just common decency, ya’ know?

Guess I won’t be gifting pauler’s single to Carie. :) Poor baby… she really took one for the team.

Kirstie - you got chips and water?! Now THAT would have made the wait worthwhile! (*sarcastic smiley here*). Seriously, did you wait it out and if so, what time did they let you in the other sound stage and how did it go once you got inside? Some people outside when I was leaving said they were offering tickets to Idol shows to the people who were leaving, but they didn’t offer us anything.

I haven’t been to a ton of tapings, but the last one I went to was the NGAB finale (also Fox produced). We got there at 4:30 and were inside by 5:00. They immediately started with a “warm-up” guy and filming crowd “reaction” shots. Within 20-30 minutes of that, they were shooting the real show. It was a tight production that probably was mostly due to the talent being “ready” from the beginning.

Gosh, Carie. That’s terrible. I’m glad I wasn’t able to go after all.

I’m sorry that you, (Carrie) weren’t able to make it in. But it was a awesome. I mean I love Paula, always have, but I’m no just saying this, her album is going to be off the hook!

I can’t wait for all you guys and gals to see it on SuperBowl Sunday! Paula asked me to go with her, but I had other obligations, so I’m gonna miss the live performance. :(

It’ll be awesome. Tell me if you like her make up. I did her make up here and there for the past few seasons, and for this video, but this year, she is all mine. Simon, Randy and the contestants i’ll be doing too of course , but I’m really excited to do Paula’s make up this season. I’ created my own make up line , me by {me}zhgan, and I used it on a few idol contestants last year, and I have been using it on Paula, and I think she looks so beautiful.

Ummm, okay. They told us at the taping that she can’t attend the Superbowl which was the whole reason they were taping the segment in advance. To the best of my knowledge, there will be no live performance.

Paula is more than off the hook - she’s off her rocker.

And I’m pretty sure she’s a PITA Diva!

Carieb, I’m singing Had a Bad Day for you. Sorry it was such a disappointment.
