Speaking of Pink Floyd’s the wall, I love, love, love that song. It was some of my high school mates and my anthem.. I remembered the whole class singing it to my science teacher one day when we felt he was being too mean to us. He never heard of the song, so we had to explain the storyline to him. He got a good laugh out of it.LOL
I’m not sure if that’s the sound Taylor’s necessarily going for, but I think it’s an element.
I think I agree with this. When Taylor’s cd came it, there were some who asked “Why doesn’t this sound more like Carencro?” I thought it was an unfair comparison. First of all, Taylor Hicks and Marc Broussard are not similarly situated. Taylor had to make compromises as an Idol that Marc didn’t. But also, it’s not clear that Marc’s sound is what Taylor wants. Remember Taylor said Whomp–not Swamp. Maybe, if he has more control over his next cd, we’ll gain some insight into what unadulterated Whomp is. Or maybe he’ll ixnay on trying to put a label on his music. As long as he does it well, who cares what it’s called?
Sarah, Daughtry plays on the Coca Cola stage on Saturday June 9th at 9:30 PM. Just checked the price for a one night ticket and boy they have gone up this year… $37.00 for one night.. We used to be able to attend for the whole week at that price.. I need to go back a check the price for the whole week..
Metta, I see what you are saying; but I also see the music Taylor loves. He adores NOLA music and has recorded quite a few of the Neville’s songs. Call it Swamp, call it Whomp; to me it’s a Cajun sound with a beat. Marc can do it well. He’s a Cajun.
Thanks Em. I was afraid it would be that weekend. I have friends coming in from out of town. Of course they’d be coming the only weekend I couldn’t make the journey to SE TN.
Sarah, sorry you can’t make it that weekend… I did check the prices and the $ 37.00 is after presales are cut off, and it’s only $23.00 to attend for one night.. That’s better.. Had me scared for a moment there..
I do hope you get to see him though… Better you than me..LOL
I just fried some fresh catfish. Wish I could share! LOL
It was sooo good :)
NOLA - You are such a tease! By the way, Taylor’s doing a show at the House of Blues in NO in Aug. I’m thinking of catching it. It would be my first time in the Big Easy. Are you going?
Regarding Sanjaya not fitting in, It’s understandable. I just read the piece People mag did on him and he does seem like a really really weird dude that would probably get annoying to anything that had to spend so much time with him. We all know his mom is, to say the least, a free-spirit, and obviously is very lenient with him since she let him get out of school so early. He probably doesn’t have much of a grasp on discipline which is understandable. I grew up with hippie parents as well so I can kind of relate.
I also appreciate Sligh for being so open and honest about stuff. I’m sick of all these contestants always answering the same bullshit in the same way. That’s why I liked Kat so much. And that’s why I’m starting to like Sligh again. I like when I can see that it pains someone to act like a robot. It’s refreshing.
About Kat’s dancing. I laughed out loud at someones comment about how it looked like a show little kids put on for their friends. So true. What did it take to put that show together, like 6 bucks? I know she’s just starting off but damn girl, put some more work into it, not like you just worked it out 2 days before hand (which I’m hearing is ACTUALLY what happened.)
Also, good for Bucky, he deserves this and he’s great for country music.
AFan, funny you bring up Sligh and Kat…because I can’t stand Sligh for the same reasons as I can’t stand Kat. Maybe he’s being “refreshing” and “honest,” but he’s also talking shit about someone he knows personally, and no matter how much entertainment value I might get out of it, it’s still not right for him to do it. I really am beginning to dislike the guy.
But who knows, maybe I’m jus’ jellus of his sexy look and hot body.
I know she’s just starting off but damn girl, put some more work into it, not like you just worked it out 2 days before hand (which I’m hearing is ACTUALLY what happened.)

Kat, for me, there are different levels of what you are saying. There’s flat-out talking shit, which, IMO, neither of them have done. There’s being too honest (and I mean “too honest” in the media sense which is pretty much you can’t talking about anything except puppies and rainbows if you don’t want to get slammed), and then there is being honest with good reason and not insulting anyone. Kat and Sligh have both participated in the latter two. And I’d also like add another category which is poking fun with good intent. Which they are both guilty of as well. Sligh with his “teletubbies” comment and various other things he’s said, and Kat with her Meatloaf stories which were prefaced and closed with what a sweet/great guy he was. And if you’re going to throw stones you have to look at both parties. Meatloaf also talked some crap about Kat on Howard Stern and I doubt he had seen the people.com videos (serious, who watches those anyway?)
It doesn’t seem like anyone can handle the truth and nobody can take a joke. The media loves to perpetuate it and it’s just a circus. Unfortunately these two (and I think Kat kinda already has) have to learn about fitting into that stupid don’t say anything at all routine which pretty much blows.
I like Chris Sligh a lot and wish he was still in the competition instead of the other Chris or Phil or even Lakisha. I just think they squashed his personality on the show. I enjoy reading his blog but agree that he should self edit before posting.

I think Blake is someone that’s very much like Taylor and Chris from last season, you either get them or you don’t. I get 2 of the 3.
And I’d also like add another category which is poking fun with good intent. Which they are both guilty of as well. Sligh with his “teletubbies” comment and various other things he’s said, and Kat with her Meatloaf stories which were prefaced and closed with what a sweet/great guy he was.
YMMV, but I don’t see either one of those as “poking fun with good intent.” From the very beginning, Chris Sligh pimped himself as the one with “the strategy,” and setting himself above Simon as the uber-cool musician who saw right through the game of Idol was going to be his hook. That Teletubbies comment seemed very calculated, especially because its execution was so forced and out-of-place. He really, for lack of a better term, shot his load prematurely with that comment. It’s true that he’s never flat out “talked trash” about anyone (neither has Katharine), but it could be argued that that kind of passive-aggressive needling is even worse, because you’re not manning up to your opinions.
As for Kat and Meatloaf, I thought what she did was incredibly rude. Tacking on “but he’s so, like, sweet and cute and adorable!”, IMO, does not automatically buy her a pass for everything else she said in the interview.
Either way, it would have been nice of Meatloaf to exercise a little class and keep his mouth shut about her, but if he had class, he wouldn’t have gone on Stern in the first place, I suppose. Either way, two wrongs don’t make a right.
Speaking of getting, I don’t get that. I like Taylor. I like Chris. I’m not sure what there was to get about Chris unless one means corporate pop rock. Blake-I hear him, I hear his voice, its pleasant. I don’t think there is any decoder out there to get him though. Now if I could just get some.
when is kat releasing her next single? does anyone knwo what it will be?
Word on the street is that nobody knows. They are still “testing” which single to release.
I think that Taylor must have farmed out his CMT to her. This new single should have been ready to go already. “Over It” has been out for 3 months and it’s starting to tumble down the chart (it has already lost 45% of its spins in the last week on Pop and 15% on Hot AC). They are going to lose momentum if they don’t have the single picked out soon. At least it is doing well as a video.
(and no need to comment on Taylor’s single…we all know it has stalled and momentum has been lost…that poor horse doesn’t deserve another beating)
She is singing “Over It”, “Love Story”, “Dangerous” and “Open Toes” at those radio promo tour events (including the “Mary Jane” song which is not on her album), so I would guess one of the latter 3 is her next single.
OK, I love you Taylor, but just say no to covering the Wall. I could barely watch that.
I have been out of the loop, but I want to thank Sammy and PJ for Blake’s original music links. I liked She Loves the Way (Sammy’s link). The 5-6 minute part is HOT. IMO, you can tell he has definitely studied Rhazel’s (from the Roots) beatboxing skills.
Just delurking to say that I was in KC on Friday for Taylors concert, and he did tag Another Brick in the Wall. It was awesome live. Better than the version posted on utube. Personally, I hope he keeps it in. Its a very interesting choice.
You know, I absolutely love Marc Broussard and his Home song/video as well as a couple other songs..but honestly do not like most of the other songs on his albums. But I love when he kicks it with something like Home, and it’s the same with Taylor. Love his style/singing, but not every song or every performance. Same with Marc. As with most artists. I almost hate to buy whole albums anymore. They are similar, but definately different. I like them both. One doesnt have to be the other, but they do have elements that go very well.
(and no need to comment on Taylor’s single…we all know it has stalled and momentum has been lost…that poor horse doesn’t deserve another beating)
The bloody thing needs to be taken out back and shot. (So says someone who thought it would be a good idea to make this the first single. )
I haven’t heard Marc Broussard’s entire album, but I did download “Home” and “Lonely Night In Georgia” from iTunes and absolutely love both. I’m definitely going to check out his new album…

I have to say that I really dig that about Taylor. He mixes it up and keeps things interesting. He’s not about being safe. Also, I don’t think any classic rock song is off limits to any performer–certainly not one of Taylor’s caliber. Like Abilymom, I wouldn’t have chosen that for him, but I think he did a good job with it. I mean, it’s not like he sang the whole thing in falsetto or blew it through his nose harp.
RE. AI 6, the whole Idol Gives Back thing reminded me of one of my top 5 fave Mad TV skits, a hilarious parody of Extreme Home Makeover:
Just my two cents on Taylor’s itty-bitty cover of “Another Brick In The Wall:” I’ve heard the song itself plenty of times, and the only Pink Floyd album I’ve listen to in its entirety is “Dark Side of the Moon.” So I’d consider myself one who casually enjoys the song. Taylor looked positively pissed off while he was singing it, and I like how he captured and magnified the song’s subtle anger and resentment.
Marc Broussard’s “Home” would be a great song for Taylor. Someone made a video of Marc singing the song with pictures of Taylor. Maybe they had the same idea.

Broussard’s album, Carencro has been out for close 3 years now. I own the album and it is for me, one of the best, artistically and musically that has ever been produced for the past 5 years. Every single review I’ve seen of it has given it much acclaim.
Hey all. Just got back from Taylor’s Denver concert. He was great…in good voice…and the altitude did not appear to bother him. FUN show.
A few other comments:
- MaryR is awesome.
- The band is HOT, HOT, HOT. I am loving the bass player.
- Rumor has it the opening band was a no show. RUMOR ONLY.
- Someone threw a purple padded bra on stage. He fumbled it and tossed it to the floor in front of the drums.
- A mix of people, maybe 60%/40% women/men ratio. Overall an “older” crowd. Some younger children came with their parents.
- As there were a few vacant seats visible throughout, my guess is that the Paramount was not sold out.
- MaryR sat next to two women who, judging by their demeanor, you would have guessed were sitting in a dentist’s chair getting root canals.
- I had the brief “pleasure” of briefly sitting next to a woman (an AI board blogger) whose claim to “fame” is that she purchased (won?) Taylor’s guitar in Wilkes Barre, PA. She also had one of Taylor’s harmonicas. Being sure to mention that “Taylor doesn’t KNOW her but recognizes her every time he sees her…” she was determined to have him sign a certificate of authenticity for the harmonica she just purchased from his body guard. Apparently, she had been on a plane but once in her life (I’d guess her to easily be in her mid/late 40s). In the last year she has flown 22 times and, if I understood what she said correctly, most have been to see Taylor. Poor guy. She ditched her 5th row aisle seat and moved to a 3rd row center seat when Taylor came on stage. She did not sit down all night and was quite a spectacle, flailing her arms as if to say “here I am, look at me.”
- I did not keep track of the set list but he opened with Soul Thing.
- Another Brick in the Wall (that was for Dave) was tagged…and was good fun.
- Encore included Take Me to the Pilot, Rockin’ Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Blues, and a few tags.
- After the concert ended, people pressed themselves to the front of the stage in an effort to get copies of the set list. Stage hands let a few people hold the microphones Taylor used. One woman kissed one of them.
One last thing:
- If anyone comes to Denver, check out the Red Square Euro Bistro on Larimer Street. Terrific appetizers and food. It also boasts a nice selection of vodka infusions (that are downed with ease).
So I’d consider myself one who casually enjoys the song. Taylor looked positively pissed off while he was singing it, and I like how he captured and magnified the song’s subtle anger and resentment.
