griz………thanks for that link to Leno show with extra info. I am waiting to go to lunch with the kiddies, and got sidetracked over to rehearsals.com. I guess Elliott fans know he has two songs there……….if not, they should take a look.

sexygirl…………..I’ll take the genius, but really, it’s just the way I think. I think DIMYP was a thank you also, and I think he knows alot of fans love it………it has the most tribute vids done to it than any other song on gofish. I think Dancing Queen was a perfect way to spotlight Melanie and may have had meaning for the band. He did say they like Abba. Whatever the reason, it was cool!

While it may be all that you say above, I think that it was just Taylor delivering on what he had told the fans prior to the tour starting…. when GC was interviewing Loren and Taylor during tour rehearsals. They were joking around.

Here is a treat for all our Mothers. Bo Bice is testing out the waters at The Canal Room on new music for his second cd this fall. At the first of this clip there are a room full of screaming fans, but as the clip goes on you can hear that oh so growly voice coming through that we all love!

Did Taylor ever said he hated the song…

He said “I’m sick of singing this song” in one of the rehearsals. That’s not quite the same thing, I think. More like, I’m tired of singing it. But after singing it every week for 3 months on tour, I can see him being sick of it for a while.

LBB, All I recall Taylor saying about Jordin was that he thought a girl would win, perhaps Jordin. He mentioned “the beatboxer” earlier in the season too.

Lu, I wish you Mom a speedy recovery. *Hugs*

( Season 3 had the WEAKEST male line-up ever and they had to eliminate some very talented female singers ( the other being Lisa Leuschner ) to make way for guys like John Stevens and Matt Rogers ).

Unfortunately then, the top 12 were chosen by the judges, not America. It changed in Season 4.

The judges did not chose the Top 12 for AI3 or any other season.

For AI1, the judges unanimously selected ONE performer (RJ Helton)after the wildcard show after the other 9 of the Top 10 were voted through by viewers.

For AI2, each judge was allowed to select one performer after the wildcard show after the other 8 of that year’s Top 12 were voted through by viewers; Randy selected Kim Caldwell, Paula selected Trenyce, and Simon selected Carmen Rasmussen. America’s wild card choice was Clay.

For AI3, once again, each judge was allowed to select one performer after the wildcard show after 8 of that year’s Top 12 were voted through by viewers; Randy selected Jennifer Hudson, Paula selected Leah LaBelle, and Simon selected George Huff. America’s wild card choice was JPL.

What changed for AI4 and beyond was that the Top 32 became a Top 24, and that gender equality in the finals was mandated by dividing the semifinals performances into a girl’s night and a guy’s night.

Sometimes weaker male singers have made the cut over more talented female singers, but the opposite is also true.

Melinda already did Since You Been Gone, too.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Khf2rQn-kMs

She not only “did” it, she killed it, and early on in the competition. Whenever I read yet another comment about Melinda’s “boring” performances and how she needs to “change it up” I think of this number, and “Woman”, and country night, and Bon Jovi night, and Latin night….

I can understand how a particular genre of music or characteristics of a singer’s voice may not spark a connection, or fails to keep your attention, or can even be irritating — kind of like Blake for me. But I like to think I can — and I try to — recognize and acknowledge quality and talent, even though that particular “product” ain’t for me. The “another boring performance” and “diva” drumbeat mystifies me. I suspect that someone like Peggy Lee probably would have put most of you into a coma.

I just wonder what all the naysayers are really talking about at times. (I mean that in the nicest possible way).

Elliott appeared at the 10th annual Wango Tango Music Festival yesterday. KIIS fm streamed the interviews with the celebrities and showed their videos. Ryan Seacrest and JoJo were hosts.

    Line-Up
    Baby Bash
    Elliot Yamin
    Enrique Iglesias
    Fergie
    Gym Class Heroes
    Kelly Clarkson
    Ludacris
    Omarion
    Paula Deanda
    Pitbull
    Robin Thicke

Elliott sang 3 songs and MTV News said ” Elliott Yamin clearly had a power over the ladies. During his three-song set, “ooh”ing and “aah”ing could be heard throughout the venue.”

I’m thrilled I could meet your expectations emeralgem. Taylor certainly knew he would be opening himself up to any and all kinds of comments, jokes and snark. And I bet he could not care less.

Today, Cat Stevens is known as Yusaf Islam.

WHAT??!! When the hell did this happen? Nevada, I’m holding you responsible for my lack of knowledge.

Has Taylor ever covered Cat, er, Yusaf?

  19. 119 longsong May 13th, 2007 at 6:30 pm

I think Elliott would look better if he just let his beardline grow farther down. Right now from that pictures it looks like an obvious “trying to give his chin more definition” attempt.

I find it interesting that this year when ratings are down a bit, votes seem to be up from what Ryan says. Didn’t he announce something like 45 million votes cast last week? And it seems like it was always around 32 to 36 million the year before.

I find the differences between the two seasons hard to believe.

I find the differences between the two seasons hard to believe.

Are you suggesting they are lying about the vote totals?

I actually don’t find it hard to believe at all. I have voted both seasons.

Last year, I could barely ever get through for my 7th place fave. This year I have had a much easier time and my fave is in the top three.

I think they opened more ports or lines or whatever to render DialIdol less effective (and it has been much less effective). I don’t think there are more votes this year, but more votes getting through.

    Just my theory, though.

RE: Cat Stevens, now Yusuf Islam

It would’ve been OK if Cat Stevens ( AKA Yusuf ) converted into the more moderate form of Islam. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case.

Read this from the New York Times : ( that was 1989 so I am not sure if his practice of Islam has changed since then )

    http://www.nytimes.com/books/99/04/18/specials/rushdie-cat.html

Cat Stevens Gives Support To Call for Death of Rushdie

    By CRAIG R. WHITNEY

LONDON, May 22 — The musician known as Cat Stevens said in a British television program to be broadcast next week that rather than go to a demonstration to burn an effigy of the author Salman Rushdie, ”I would have hoped that it’d be the real thing.”

The singer, who adopted the name Yusuf Islam when he converted to Islam, made the remark during a panel discussion of British reactions to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini’s call for Mr. Rushdie to be killed for allegedly blaspheming Islam in his best-selling novel ”The Satanic Verses.” He also said that if Mr. Rushdie turned up at his doorstep looking for help, ”I might ring somebody who might do more damage to him than he would like.”

”I’d try to phone the Ayatollah Khomeini and tell him exactly where this man is,” said Mr. Islam, who watched a preview of the program today and said in an interview that he stood by his comments.

READ ABOVE LINK FOR THE REST…

  27. 127 MaryS-NJ May 13th, 2007 at 8:19 pm

I’m aware of the controversy about Yusef’s comments about the fatwa against Salman Rushdie. I believe that he has since stated his regret, and that Mr. Rushdie has accepted that. If I’m wrong, please feel free to correct me.

Yusef also gave up music with his conversion because he was lead to believe it was un-Islamic. He’s since learned otherwise. So, I think it’s probable that his beliefs have evolved.

For anyone interested, here’s Yusef Islam performing his (Cat Stevens) song, Peace Train at the Nobel Concert in 2006:

“In shades, jeans and a shirt you could probably find at Anchor Blue, Yamin was a far cry from the suit-wearing crooner that captured Paula Abdul’s heart on television. His brand of R&B, seemingly a throwback to the good stuff from the ’90s, went over well early in the lineup.”
