Syesha Mercado – Listen – CBS Early Show

Season 7 Idol, Syesha Mercado appeared on the CBS Early Show this morning to perform the Grammy winning song “Listen” from the new production of Dreamgirls, now playing at the Apollo Theater in Harlem until December 12.
Syesha (Deena) duets on the song with Moya Angela (Effie). Once the stint at the Apollo wraps up, the company will tour across the country.
Those who attended the Season 7 Idol summer concert will be familiar with Syesha’s performance of this powerful song.
Video after the JUMP…

Syesha Mercada??? Come on, dude! Get it right! It’s Mercado!!
I’m glad to hear how wonderful she sounds!
This is amazing, not sure why they made her wear that shirt though. I mean, it’s not they’re on stage or something lol
Syesha was fantastic….emotional and powerful. The other girl seem to go flat once or twice. (she is no Jennifer Hudson) but Syesha I actually think sung that better then Beyonce. IMHO
Syesha can sand!!! That was beautiful!
Syesha sounds great here. Good job.
so glad syesha’s found success!
I thought they each sounded great separately but their voices didn’t mesh well, so the end was pretty unpleasant. Also the rewritten lyrics aren’t particularly…good. Still, I’m happy Syesha is performing on a pretty visible stage.
Listen won a Grammy? I remember it being nominated for Oscar, but I didn’t know it won a Grammy. Is there a film category of the Grammys?
It’s Syesha’s vibrato souring that ending. She’s a great singer–both of them are–but they can’t just “do their thing” if they are singing together.
Syesha did a terrific job on this performance!
Syesha’s voice (by itself) actually gave me chills! I think she’s improved since idol too. So happy for her.
Teabag – I was pleased with Syesha’s performance, but I have to agree with you that the rewritten lyrics are pretty pedestrian, like it was fit the words in by number. The phrase “back in the day” was particularly jarring.
Syesha is an excellent vocalist and it’s too bad that the judges decided to nail her performances while Lil Rounds received free passes every week for worse performances.
