Idol Bits and Pieces 12/30/09: Constantine Maroulis, Ellen Degeneres, Carrie Underwood and Bucky Covington

Fox411 reports that the reason Constantine Maroulis has been seen canoodling around NYC with reality “star” and “heiress” Tinsley Mortimer, is due to the contract he signed to be Tinsley’s boyfriend for the duration of her next reality project, “Empire State” for the CW set to debut in 2010. That’s right, for the time being, Constantine is getting paid to be her fake boyfriend. I think there’s another word for that? Heh. FOX reports that while Constantine couldn’t be happier, his peeps are less than enthused. via FOX.

Idol judge, Ellen DeGeneres and Project Runway’s Tim Gunn have been named Peta’s Woman and Man of the year. “Tim Gunn and Ellen DeGeneres show us that one person really can make a difference in the world by rejecting cruel deeds in favor of compassionate acts,” says PETA President Ingrid E. In other PETA News, Carrie Underwood–along with Tyra Banks, Oprah Winfrey, and First Lady Michelle Obama–is featured in an anti-fur banner for the animal rights organization that will be placed at Metro stops in the Washington, DC area. The banners were unveiled today. via PETA.

And, in other Carrie Underwood news, her new fiance, Mike Fisher lost his bid to be on the Canadian Olympic hockey team. Sads. Oh well, that’s more time to plan a wedding! Although I’ll bet Carrie would have looked cool rinkside in Vancouver next year… via US

Idol Bits And Pieces: Carrie Underwood, Kara DioGuardi, Ruben Studdard, Bucky Covington

Kara DioGuardi is shopping around a new reality show.   Called Dropped, Kara says it “…takes the best acts that have been dropped and gives them a second chance… I was dropped. Think about how many times in your life you haven’t achieved one goal, but you’ve achieved another one.”   Well, good luck with that, Kara. via Vulture.

Simon Cowell on Ellen Degeneres. Oh Wait…

Anybody else find it strange that while Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi have offered their enthusiastic thumbs up, Simon Cowell has yet to publicly welcome his new panel-mate Ellen Degeneres to the judges table? He hasn’t been too busy to set his recent remarks on the Beatles straight, but complete and utter silence on Ellen?

It’s been reported that less than half a dozen people knew about the Ellen negotiations that took place over the course of two weeks. Maybe Simon wasn’t one of those elite few and is feeling slighted, hence the silence on his end.? What do you peeps think? Why is Simon suddenly silent?

While Simon keeps mum, others have offered their opinions. Carrie Underwood told People, “Everybody loves Ellen…I think she’ll make a great addition [to American Idol].” and Constantine Maroulis said, “I think she’s amazing. She’s really funny, so likable and I think she’ll really be a mentor to the contestants.’ And David Cook, ‘I don’t know that anyone can replace Paula, nor should they try…but I am excited to see how Ellen affects the dynamic of the show.’

Taylor Hicks dropped by the CBS Early Show Friday to offer his opinion, “I think it’s going to be great…I think she bring as lot of entertainment value to the show. I think that she’s a great personality, and she might have a little bit of more of a musical chop than we think she does.” Taylor’s season 5 buddy, Bucky Covington, appeared as well, “I think it would be great to have someone call Simon out on his corny jokes.”

Taylor added, “We need to get Simon (Cowell) and Ellen in a singing competition and determine which has the best musical quality.”

Two-time guest judge, Victoria Beckham tells E Online she didn’t want the job anyway.

More: USA Today wonders, “Risky Move or Brilliant plan?” and the LA Times rounds up varied 0pinions on the new 4th judge from celebrities to dumb bloggers. Heh.   Plus, the Times ran a poll–the yeses edge out the nos at 56%…
