Rage Against the Machine Takes the Christmas No 1 Spot – Simon Cowell’s Head Explodes
The Christmas #1, a very big deal in the UK, has been dominated by Simon Cowell’s winning X-Factor single for 4 years running. Not this year. X-Factor winner, Joe McElderry’s song, “The Climb” will bow at #2 this week behind Rage Against the Machine’s “Killing in the Name” at #1.
via The Independent:
Rock band Rage Against the Machine ended Simon Cowell’s four year domination of the Christmas charts tonight after a hugely popular Facebook campaign helped the Los Angeles nu-metallers snatch the Christmas number one slot from X-factor’s Joe McEdlerry.
More than half a million people downloaded the band’s famously anti-authoritarian and expletive laden track ‘Killing in the Name’ in what was seen as a broad protest against the increasing influence of manufactured pop music.
It is the first time a non-X-Factor song has made it to Christmas number one for four years and represents a major snub to the show’s creator Cowell who angrily described the campaign to him another number one slot as ‘very Scrooge’ .
On one hand, I’m a Rage Against the Machine Fan, and kinda happy their song took the #1 spot over some soppy Miley Cyrus cover.
The X Factor – FINAL Results!

Joe McElderry wins X Factor 2009!
No big surprise here! It was pretty clear for the past several weeks that Joe was a front runner. He’s technically a very good and consistent singer, even if he’s not oozing charisma, but if he’s given the right material, he could sell records. I’ll be his voice records beautifully.
I don’t know what’s going to happen to Olly. Maybe he could go the theater route like Taylor Hicks did. I can’t imagine him as a viable recording artist, although he is really entertaining. I could forgive his vocal imperfections on his rendition of “The Climb”, as it was incredibly heartfelt. I liked it better than Joe’s for that reason.
OMG it was so exciting to see Sir Paul McCartney on the X Factor stage. SQUEEEE is all I can muster at this moment. Sure, his vocals were kind of shot, but he’s a f*cking Beatle! Enough said.
X Factor voting statistics HERE. Total transparency! What a concept! Joe won decisively, and was in double digits the entire competition. The week that John And Edward were eliminated, Olly Murs had the lowest votes. Olly had a bit of a rocky road to the top. Danyl Johnson fluctuated a lot-probably corresponding to his uneven performances and whatever his press was in a given week.

X-Factor – Week 9 – Results

Eliminated from X Factor: Danyl Johnson
Olly Murs, Joe McElderry and Stacey Soloman advance to next week’s final.
Once again, the early, heavily pimped front-runner does not take the crown. Danyl suffered from the hype, some bad press, and performances that were less than stellar.
In fact, tonight, in his singout, Danyl was especially nasally and under-pitch…
Eh, Danyl will be fine. I bet Simon signs him anyway.
I expect Joe to walk away with the crown next week. Although he’s not my cuppa, he’s got the best voice and is the most marketable out of the 3 left, so he’ll be a good winner. Man, Olly bursting into tears when he heard he was safe tugged at my heart strings…

X Factor – Week 9 – Performance

I think Joe McElderry is the only safe bet for the final next week. And, he’s going to win the whole thing. We’ll see tomorrow who takes the two spots next to him. Olly and Joe have been the most consistent, and entertaining of this quartet, for that reason, I hope they make it to the final.
The elimination of Danyl would be amusing, just to see the look on Simon’s face…
It’s time for the X Factor! Top 4 this week. Poor Olly is missing his twin brother’s wedding! Sads.

X Factor Week 8 Performance

This first, Jedward-less x Factor, featuring the Top 5 singing 2 tunes each from Take That and Elton John, just wasn’t the same. So sad to be deprived of a Jedward double-wammy! Sigh.
I don’t think there was one really “wow” performance tonight. Joe McElderry’s “Sorry Seems The Hardest Part” was the best vocal of the night. The worst? Lloyd Daniels, once again, proved that he’s utterly out of his depth here.

X Factor – Week 7 – Results

Olly Murs and John and Edward hit bottom 2. John and Edward are eliminated
Ah well. It was fun while it lasted. Too bad Lloyd Daniels wasn’t sent home. He can’t sing, plus, he’s boring.

- John and Edward sing for survival – and it’s beyond bad. Yeow. I’ve enjoyed their hilarious performances, but outlasting Olly would not be right. The judges have to send them home this week. – VIDEO
- Olly Murs sings for survival – it’s “Wonderful Tonight” by Eric Clapton. He’s not great…but I don’t think he should go home tonight. – VIDEO
X Factor – Week 7 – Performance

Here is your X Factor post for the Week 7 performance show.
The Top 6 sing the music of Wham! Excuse me while I….LULZ!!!!!!! The host said it was George Michaels, not just Wham! Though, I’m hoping Jedward does some Wham!

X Factor – Week 6 – Results

Lloyd Daniels and Jamie Archer in the bottom 2.
Jamie Archer Eliminated! - It really was Lloyd’s time to go, but Jamie was overrated. When he had to sing out of his comfort zone, Jamie’s weaknesses were exposed. Honestly, I’m glad the twins made it through. They are entertaining, at least. The rest of these singers (except for Olly) not so much…
The look on Simon’s face when Jamie was eliminated. Lulzy!
Wow. Both sing outs were bad, but Lloyd made my ears bleed. Awful.

X Factor – Week 6 Performance – Video

At the top of the show, Simon Cowell extended an invitation to Sting, who had been critical of X Factor earlier in the week. About sending the elimination to deadlock last week, Simon said he would “never ever ever play tactics or mess with people’s lives.” Ha! Simon says he “trusts the public.” Right. Liar liar pants on fire!
Queen week overwhelmed all of the contestants this week. Nobody was really up to task. The difficult songs uncovered all the remaining singers’ weaknesses.

X Factor – Week 5 – SHOCKING Results

X-Factor Week 5 Results!
LUCIE JONES WENT HOME. WTF???
Shocking results on X Factor this week. Unbelievably, Lucie Jones, one of X Factor’s better singers, had the lowest number of votes this week.
The performance that sent her home, “This Is Me” by Demi Lovato, was easily one of her best of the competition. It showcased Lucie as a viable, contemporary recording artist. I thought she’d make the finals. Or, at the very least, be the last girl standing.
Simon, playing hardball, dismissed Lucie as a contestant who couldn’t win, but I think he was clearing the competition for his own team of 0ver-25’s. Of course Simon knew who got the lowest number of votes, so instead of playing the meanie and saving the boys (who he’s dogged all season–would’ve looked totally hypocritical) he left it up to “the public.”
X Factor is cutthroat!
I don’t mind the boys still being in it, but not at the expense of Lucie. In a fair world, the hapless Lloyd Daniels or awkward Stacey Soloman would have been sent packing–or, even the terribly over-rated Jamie Archer.
But, X Factor is a voting show. And the people hath spoken….

X Factor – Week 5 Performance – VIDEO

Tonight’s best performances came from Lucie Jones and Danyl Johnson. And another lulzworthy performance from John and Edward. It’s time for Lloyd Daniels to leave. Hopefully, he gets the boot tomorrow.

X Factor Week 4 – Results – VIDEO

UPDATE: Rachel Adedeji was eliminated from X Factor tonight.
Rachel and Lloyd Daniels hit the bottom 2. The judges’ vote deadlocked, with Dannii and Louie saving Rachel, Cheryl saving Lloyd and Simon refusing to pick. Rachel had the lowest number of votes–she was sent home.
Obviously, Rachel wasn’t connecting, with three trips to the bottom 3. But Lloyd? That singout was a pitchy, scary mess. He so deserved to be sent on his way tonight.

X Factor – Week 4 – VIDEO

Update: Videos after the jump!
It’s Rock Week on X Factor. Cheryl accuses Simon of forcing a Rock week in order to prop up his performers. Cheryl’s visting the grassy knoll!
I have to say, it’s really startling to watch the judges gushing over performances that totally suck. Joe McElderry and Lloyd Daniels come to mind.
My favorites tonight: Lucie and Olly. Oh, and John and Edward, for the lulz.

X Factor – Live Results 3 – VIDEO

Whoa!
Shocking X Factor results!
Miss Frank and judges darling, Danyl Johnson were in the Bottom 2 tonight, with Miss Frank going home.
Simon, in his typically hyperbolic fashion, says he’s never been so surprised in his life. “If this is your last performance,” Simon tells Danyl, “I’ve never, ever heard anyone go out on such a high note.”
The bottom 2 performed once again, before the judges picked which contestant to eliminate.
Adding to the suspense, the judges’ vote ended up in deadlock, with Simon and Danii supporting Danyl and Louis and Cheryl supporting Miss Frank. A deadlock meant that the act with the lowest number of votes went home. Miss Frank, as the bottom vote getter, were sent packing.
