Taylor Hicks in Grease on Broadway

Taylor Hicks debuted as the Teen Angel last night in the Broadway production of Grease. Afterward, it was on to Planet Hollywood to have his hands cast in cement. This photo and many more of the show and the Planet Hollywood event can be found at Right Hicks Save. Taylor will appear on Live with Regis and Kelly on Friday June 13 as part of the show’s Broadway Week.

From the photos & video I’ve seen from last night, it definitely was a special evening for Taylor. Those who were present had a ball, too. Great to see him continue living his dream!

Love all the pictures…He looks so happy! What fun…I am off to NYC this summer, can’t miss seeing him in the flesh!

He looks amazing! And heard/read he did a wonderful job, so so cool.

How fantastic!! He looks so happy!!

I thought he sounded really good in the video clip I saw. I’m really happy for him. It was nice to see he got to add a little harmonica too!

Wow, ton of pics! Congrats Taylor. I like the candid shots so much more than the posed ones. LOL

He looks and sounds great! Since I saw the show in its initial incarnation, I doubt I’ll travel down for it this time. But, I hope Taylor gets to wrap up his album and have fun with “Grease” while he’s doing it. Looking forward to seeing him on “Live” this Friday and will be looking for him at the Tonys.

So glad to hear it went well last night. The costume is perfect! Glittery, OTT, perfect for the part and for Taylor. I love the expressions on his costars, too–they look like they’re happy he’s there.

dancingqueen, where did you see the video? I checked youtube and it’s not posted there.

Seems like the perfect role for him - a scenestealer type. Couldn’t see much of anything in the video, but his voice sounded great. Glad he’s having fun!

Taylor takes on the Big Apple!

Great photo’s - he looks thrilled — happy to be there.

loosegoose - I googled “Taylor Hicks Grease” and clicked the video section, and a Youtube came up. I really wasn’t expecting to find one, just hoping - maybe it’s been taken down.

I’m so happy for Taylor. He certainly deserves all the accolades that come his way.

    The in-character hair is fantastic.

Taylor will have long-term luck in his career if the hair stays on his head. He’ll look the exact same age for another 25 years at least.

  14. 14 JulieR Jun 7th, 2008 at 3:17 pm

Great to see there are already video, audio and photos available. It would appear that Taylor has made a positive splash in the role - good luck, Taylor!

Let them say what they will about record sales, Taylor is a STAR!

Do Simon and Nigel know this guy? Maybe they could get him on the show, y’know. :smoke_tb:

    dancing queen,
Thanks! I found it under “opening night.” Would love to have a better look, esp. at the part where he pauses and the audience laughs. What was he doing then?? He sounded very good, loved the falsetto.

The harmonica, as much as I like hearing him play it, sorta broke the spell for me. I thought it did not fit the character.

  18. 18 skylight1219 Jun 7th, 2008 at 4:22 pm

I didn’t like the harmonica either, but, maybe they thought it would fit with the character. You know, a harp?

  19. 19 jersey Jun 7th, 2008 at 4:42 pm

LOL skylight. I’ll have to go find some vids to watch!

ETA: I found one. He sounded great! You can’t see him but I’m sure some industrious sp’er will get a better vid eventually!

I loved the harmonica! And I loved the falsetto too! There’s something to be said for staying in character, I agree, but there’s also something to be said for making the character your own. I think that’s what Taylor did with the harp, as well as with the ‘Ray sway’ (or whatever it’s called). It’s all good!

  21. 21 JOJOSIE Jun 7th, 2008 at 5:21 pm

Taylor never fails to inspire emotion in me. He’s caused me to shed a few tears but most of the time he makes me smile and smile some more. That’s why I love him and his music. He makes music an emotional experience. David Cook is my current Idol favorite but I doubt if anyone will ever replace Taylor, he’ll always have a place in my heart

Do Simon and Nigel know this guy? Maybe they could get him on the show, y’know.

Ladybug, it will never happen. Taylor probably doesn’t have enough charisma or personality for Nigel. If only he were as entertaining and unique as that Daughtry fella. [/sarcasm]

I was skeptical about Taylor taking on this role but after seeing all the great reviews and pics, this was definitely a very good move for him…yes he exudes star power!

  24. 24 abbysee Jun 7th, 2008 at 9:38 pm

Ah yes, Taylor is in his element. Performing on a stage, any stage, anywhere, that is his place. He looks so happy!

  25. 25 Little Boy Blue Jun 7th, 2008 at 10:25 pm

    Folks,

Could anyone post any review from any paper or media source ? Where are they ?

    Thanks.

The Taylor fans (including me) were so excited last night! On the Boogie there 123 people on and about 40 pages of people posting waiting for every detail we could get from those lucky fans that were there. No matter what anyone says Taylor has some fans who LOVE him.

  27. 27 dante Jun 7th, 2008 at 10:50 pm

Wow - Taylor looks like he is having a blast! Another first for his list. Wish I could get to NY to see this but don’t think it will happen, but I am very happy for him and will always go see him in concert whenever possible.

  28. 28 jpfan Jun 7th, 2008 at 10:53 pm

I posted in the headlines thread that there won’t be any reviews of Taylor. NYC critics only review opening nights. Once in a while they’ll do a review if a lead role in a major production is replaced.

OK Nomi….you made me laugh at 6:22 AM.

  30. 30 spanishfan Jun 8th, 2008 at 10:33 am

I loved the performance and his falsetto was magical. Lovely to see Taylor enjoying himself. Loved the harp. Cannot wait for his new albums.

  31. 31 JudyOhio Jun 8th, 2008 at 6:04 pm

So good to see Taylor enjoying himself so much in this production! I’ve missed SEEING things about him. We hear alot about where he is, what he’s doing, etc., but the pictures and videos are few and far between anymore (or maybe I just don’t know where to look). Anyway, I’m really enjoying getting some TH news/views. :)

Here is my video I captured on opening night, curtain call. If this cannot play here, search him on VIMEO. LOTS OF VIDEO.

Thanks for the video link skeeter, it was great. He is a lot more featured than I thought he was going to be!

  34. 34 catdog Jun 8th, 2008 at 8:37 pm

Thanks skeeter226 for that link. You all don’t know how lucky we are to be able to see this. It is really taboo to post any performances from Broadway during the run of the show.

He sounds wonderful. The play probably got a shot in the arm with him joining the cast. I wish he had shown up earlier when I was in NY to see Clay in Spamalot. Could have seen both my boyfriends!!!! LOL

  35. 35 skeeter226 Jun 8th, 2008 at 8:49 pm

It is rare to see fan video from Broadway, but I have seen them before. My video is actually taken during the curtain call. Everyone rushed the stage, and there were many people taking video and pictures, along with lots of professional cameras from the media. This was allowed by the theater.

***The performance was INCREDIBLE!***…..I am sure more video will show up soon. Taylor came out the stage door for photos and signing autographs, and then then he had his hands and harmonica printed at Planet Hollywood.

  36. 36 catdog Jun 8th, 2008 at 9:04 pm

The whole Claynation would have gone nuts if cameras were allowed at the Shubert. What a gift!

  37. 37 skeeter226 Jun 8th, 2008 at 9:20 pm

hmmmmmmmmmm? Maybe it depends on the theater. The stage door was fun and I was able to get some pictures and video there too, and also at Planet Hollywood at his hand printing.

It must have been an amazing night for him!

  38. 38 catdog Jun 8th, 2008 at 10:18 pm

Skeeter226 can you post pics of Taylor? Would love to see them.

  39. 39 skeeter226 Jun 9th, 2008 at 12:22 am
