I thought Taylor did fine except did he forget part of the song?
The part where you use runs to hit every note in your range at least twice per glory note? (I love that bit about how to win Australian Idol…”the notes in the song are just a serving suggestion”)
LOL. He seemed to hit all the words to me, but I’m not American so I googled it. Yep, all the words are there.
Thanks MJ……Kudos to my little raspy voiced soul-man….Taylor is a fellow who can tug at my heartstrings every time I see him perform….he should consider himself lucky…lol
If anyone deserves a M&G it’s you, MJ. I hope you have SO much fun and I know you’ll come back with great, snarky stories. I can’t wait to hear ‘em!!! ;)
I’ll watch this performance later. My computer is being a beyotch tonight.
Pitch perfect. Good job Taylor! Probably the strongest version that he’s ever done. I didn’t hear any missed words at all. Just brilliant as far as I’m concerned.
I thought it was the best I’ve heard him sing it, too, griz. As near perfect as I’ve ever heard anyone sing the National Anthem. Love that voice of his!
Right Desdemona - this performance should lay to rest any naysayer who says he has a ‘limited vocal range’. Just direct them to this video and that will shut them up, permanently.
I would rate this performance one level above that of Elliot Yamin and Tamyra Gray, who butchered the song on national TV and pretty much killed her own career, if she ever had one. ;-), and well below Chris Daughtry and even Jordin Sparks, because it was lacking in power and emotions. It didn’t work for me, dawg, just sayin’…
Wow, best rendition I’ve heard him sing of this song. So good to hear SSB sung the way it was intended rather than ruining it with vocal gymnastics. :) Perfect highs, I just loved it.

What part do you think Taylor forgot??
Excellent. There is always that anticipation right before the high notes when anyone is singing it - are they going to make it or am I going to cringe? He nailed those notes & you could hear the crowd cheering. Great range. I can understand that some folks might not like the raspy quality of his voice, just like some might not like the raspy quality of Seger’s voice or Rod Stewarts, but he nailed it. A capella too!
Well I missed it last night. I tuned in apparently just after he did it. Then when I clicked on your link just now to hear it, I didn’t have a picture, just the sound, and to be honest I didn’t love it. I’ve always thought that 95% of Taylor’s appeal was watching him. Thanks for the link though for the dipshits like me who tuned in too late.
I thought his voice sounded tired, especially when he hit the lower notes and higher notes in the song. For some reason I thought they were stronger then that.
Taylor did fine - and I got the impression the words of the anthem MEANT something. Funny how he manages to do that.
Kirsten - that Australian Idol quote - “the notes in the song are just a serving suggestion.” LOL. And so apropos, re singing the National Anthem - the way too many people do it. Names witheld to protect the guilty.
you know what ??? I almost forgot how he makes me feel when he performs !!! I have seen the vids from his tour… but I sooooooooo miss him on my own TV !!! He was MAH - VA - lous !!! Goosebumps……. love him !!!!
Hi, I have a M&G tonight too. Can somebody tell me how it works? Does anyone know if the show tonight is much different than the first part of the tour? I saw Taylor at Avalon too.
Wow what a cool, understated performance. Hope you have fun at the concert MJ and thanks for getting this to us so quickly. You’re the best!

I just got home and watched this performance by Taylor. He was in great voice and did a soulfull rendition. I want to go see him again sooooo bad!
Hope you have a great time at your concert mj and enjoy your M & G!!!!

Yup, I heard all the words too Kirsten and i’m a Yank.

I thought it was a really nice rendition from Taylor although it would have been better if he could have squeezed a tear out of one eye. ;)
Wow, best rendition I’ve heard him sing of this song. So good to hear SSB sung the way it was intended rather than ruining it with vocal gymnastics. :) Perfect highs, I just loved it.
Thanks MJ, and congrats on the MG passes - enjoy!
I thought he did a beautiful, patriotic rendition. Good for him. However, as cheese pointed out, I was disappointed he didn’t cry out of one eye.
Taylor did a good job on it. I’m not into National Anthem idol competitions so I don’t think it’s better or worse than anyone else’s but it’s good!
MJ - Have a great time at your meet and greet! We want to hear all about it!!!
Late chiming in here, have a great time MJ! Say hi for me, LOL. Hi JJ!

OK, MJ — who did you bribe? j/k
Wow. EXCELLENT, simple, powerful job. Hmpf! I doesn’t matter if he didn’t get a tear in one eye, I did! *sorta*
Loved it!
ETA: He didn’t forget a single word, neither!

Have fun at the M & G!
Have a good time MJ.
It’ll be interesting to read your opinion of Taylor’s manner re: meet and greets.
I thought his voice sounded tired, especially when he hit the lower notes and higher notes in the song. For some reason I thought they were stronger then that.

MJ — I hope to see you in Cohasset, enjoy your M & G!
No M & G for me this time, been there, done that, have the pictures and signed junk.
sheesh,
gave me goosebumps. loved his rendition. didn’t need to embellish it into a song that no one recognizes. BE-AU-TI-FUL.
National anthem was awesome! And I’ll be at the m&g too tonight MJ, my first! Yippee for both of us!
My life has been absolutely crazy this week so I’m just catching up.
Yay, MJ, we’re twinsies!! I have an M&G pass, too. Will you hold my hand so I don’t pass out?
What should I bring to sign? Do they give you something or do you have to bring something?
I’ll probably post this in the new thread since people won’t see this, but I really am nervous about the M&G.
And I thought Taylor sounded great on the Anthem. He does a really good job on it.
Hi, I have a M&G tonight too. Can somebody tell me how it works? Does anyone know if the show tonight is much different than the first part of the tour? I saw Taylor at Avalon too.
