Taylor Vaifanua – American Idol Season 8 Top 36 Contestant

Taylor Vaifanua – Salt Lake City – 16 – Hurricane, UT – Audition – H’wood Group – H’wood (“Chair”) – Semis Week 3 – AI Hollywood Video – AI Top 36 Video
Randy compares Taylor to fellow teenage giantess Jordin Sparksà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’and thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s before Taylor opened her mouth to sing. Other than her audition, we saw Taylor screwing up her parts in Hollywood and a snip of her solo Hollywood performance. The judges seem to really like her, but is it enough to advance to the Top 12?
Taylor is the very last in my series of “Featured Top 36 Contestats” You can check out the rest HERE.

I cannot even begin to figure out what the judges are raving about here.
Her audition was bland…not even remotely close to Lauryn Hill’s version of “Joyful, Joyful,” which she was trying to mimic.
She’s nothing like Jordin Sparks.
I simply think she’s a really mediocre singer who hasn’t really proven why she’s in the Top 36.
…and then, there was Lenesha Young.
i disagree. i think her audition was amazing.
idk why you think shes a mediocre singer. she has amazing vocals. have you heard her “take a bow” video before it was removed from youtube? it was really good.
oh and also another performance i think she did really good on was “if i aint got you” by alicia keys. watch this video at 1:17:

dont you think its amazing??
i love taylor =]
Because….that’s just what I think.
I’ve heard better. Way better. Some singers can just do with a little more growing time. She ain’t ready.
And yes, I’ve seen all the videos.
I thought her audition was terrible but I found her to be not AS bad in Hollywood.
I still think she’s some good cannon fodder though. Not enough fanbase.
And I agree Gwendolyn…she needs more growing time. She just isn’t there yet.
Have I mentioned how much prettier she is with her new hairstyle with the bangs? It’s a BIG improvement from her audition look. (I hardly recognized her!)
Okay, now out of the shallow end…
Was not impressed with her audition. Thought she was better in Hollywood. And I think MJ’s assessment is pretty dead on. She may not get the votes to move on in her initial round, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she gets a wild card pick. The judges seem to like her a lot.
Can she be considered for a wildcard pick? Certainly more deserving imho!
I don’t think Taylor has a shot at all.
She was alright but I think the people who have been compared to past Idol contestants at this point have zero chance to win.
So the guy they said was “like Elliot” is going out at some point and this young gal will not be standing at the end either. They want a perception of uniqueness and the comparisons wouldn’t be scripted if they were TCO.
Like others here, I was not impressed with her audition either, and she hasn’t really done anything to change my mind.
And I hate it when judges rave about contestants just because they’re OMG!!11!! 16!!!!111!!!!
boo
i guess im alone in this then, well of the comments i have seen of her so far. so hopefully she will do amazing and change your guys’ minds in her upcoming performances. cuz the semi-finals and beyond is when it starts getting interesting.
i dont know what it is about taylor, but theres something about her i just love. so i really hope she does good =]
Taylor who?
You’re 16!!! You’re 17!!!111
Randy and probably Kara love her.
The only improvement I’ve seen from her is her appearance.
Voice, performance, etc. still meh to me.
You’re not alone, ashes07. I liked her too. I think there are ladies better than her, but she’s a good singer.
Being “Good” at 16 is impressive. Considering that few 16 year olds have had the time to get out there to perfect their craft, have very few venues to perform in (other than local theater, school functions or church related activities) it really is something when they can really sing. Most people don’t grow into their voice until they hit their late teens or early twenties. Not to mention learning to control that voice and figuring out a way to interpret music when their life experiences are pretty limited.
The nice thing about a good 16 year old, as compared to a good 26 year old, is that the younger one is much more open to guidance and development. They haven’t gotten so full of themselves that they accept criticism and learn from it with better success than an older performer.
I’m hoping for the best for some of these younger ones. It’s a lot more fun for me to see them develop then to listen to the same old, same old week after week that many of the “older” contestants throw out there. If nerves don’t derail them, hopefully we will have some younger talent to latch on to.
I actually think she’s really good.
She’s decent, but not in the league as some of the others. I don’t see her making the top 12.
I’m intrigued but I don’t plan on getting too attached.
Snore…ZZZZzzzzzzzzz….
Her voice is too common; I think Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll on this one. :thumbdown_tb:
And is this the singer who has the strange religious musical influences?
Okay, that is Matt G. and this is not his thread, however, if he is placed in the right group I truly think he has a chance with the fans, imho. I don’t know much about Elliot, but Matt is one I’m going to watch.
Taylor, she’s definitely gone the right direction with her hair style. However, she hasn’t stood out to me vocally/performance wise. Is she really 16? So many of these 16 yr. old girls look older than their age. I’m sure she is. Striking girl.
Taylor’s voice is nice but nothing outstanding. I really don’t think she’s heading for TOP 12. You never know, though. lol.
