Kara DioGuardi makes her music video debut in Nickelback? Hinder? Seether? Theory of A Deadman’s latest single, “Not Meant To Be.”
Kara, who co-wrote the song with the band’s frontman Tyler Connolly, plays the female lead, who gets really mad, and then drives away in her car. The magic of filmaking takes care of the rest. Wait, I thought the dude in the song was realizing their relationship was NOT meant to be? Whatevs.
The video, directed by Tony Petrossian (Stone Sour, Seether, Taking Back Sunday, Avenged Sevenfold, DMX), was filmed last month in Los Angeles.

I think they overplayed the slow motion reverse reassembly of the broken glass in that video. That song sounds a bit familiar in parts and also sounds sort of country to me.
That song was so generic, like the video, and like Kara’s critiques! Just the right setting for that cold, blank stare she practices every week on AI.
I love Theory Of A Deadman!! This is defnitely NOT one of my favorite songs of theirs….a lot poppier than their other stuff, but it’s still a good song. I thought Kara looked great and that the singer needs a new do for sure lol !! Chris Daughtry cowrote and does guest vocals on their song By The Way…sorry the Daughtry fan in me always has to throw in the connection lol.

I liked this song the very first time I heard it on the radio. Kara looks great in the video, although I agree they overdid the slow mo, backwards stuff.

She brought her game, she sold it, great video presence BUT I didn’t feel the emotional connection. Nice car though.

I actually like Kara. She’s so talented, but I just don’t think she belongs on the show.
:laugh_tb: I both like and dislike Kara as a judge if that makes sense….sometimes she’s the only one that will give real constructive criticism but when she starts babbling about being a “pacakage artist” and “very commercial” it drives me mad!! It validates all the issues the long time critics have had about the show.
Not a bad song. Kara looks great in this video…no denying that. Her body looks killer in a great slightly funky outfit in the opening scene.
I agree with whomever said that she uses package artist and commercial too much- she really does. But did Simon sum it up by sayig that the show wasn’t the place for an “artist”?
Scott said he was trying to be artistic and Simon said fine but not on this show…lol!! I know that statement is probably the worst as far as making the show generic and superficial…..big dope!

I love kara and she brings a lot to the show she is truly a talented,producer/singer/writer.
Eh, I think she’s just being honest. Plus, it’s not exactly a secret that AI looks for singers who they can somehow package up and slot into whatever genre happens to be hot at the moment. These people are not exactly competing for a scholarship at Juilliard. I wish she’d vary her comments a bit more though. She needs a better scripwriter or one that’s no so lazy.
The beginning of this song reminded me a touch of Buckcherry’s “Sorry”…it may remind me of something else too, but not sure what…
BINGO! This is the perfect corporate song featuring Kara as the perfect corporate version of a pretty woman – hard, cold and unavailable – with a hot car. She obviously knows this world well.
