With not much promotion and probably not alot of $ spent on his album, Chris is becoming HUGE. He could possibly be another Carrie for them. He will be multi platinum for sure. In fact, it is quite likely than Chris in his (9th/10th?)week will sell more than Kat in her first. And her CD is expensive and will be highly promoted.
I personally don’t care how successful Chris gets. I will see him as a leader of a pre-packaged rock band. He is building his success on someone else’s spotlight. When he does something original and succeed at it, then I will have some respect for him. I would not be surprise if years from now when his spotlight fades, he will be trying to tear down the next rock band who’ll be taking his place. But for now, he does not seem to have a problem doing it to someone else. Taking credit for some else’s hardwork seems to be quite normal for Chris.
I promise myself I will not waste my energy talking about Chris and I am. So, I think I need to go to bed now..
I didn’t mean to be funny. I’m not belittling Taylor. He won AI and deserves to be treated like the winner. But AI needs to keep producing people who sells alot of records or the whole premise of the show falls apart. Having Chris’ song played weekly will give him a tremendous boost from the show. That’s all. I hope Taylor’s single and video give him a higher profile. His “people” are not on the ball IMO. Maybe he and Clive had disagreements. Who knows?
As for Leno, she was never on before and all the others have been I think, so it’s great she’ll be singing two of her songs Monday night. It’s going to be some fun days coming up for Kat Phans. :)
I still don’t like her! LOL

And I think it’s great that I am NOT going watch her..
No offense meant to Chris or his fans. Just me venting my extreme frustration at the lack of continued support of Taylor’s cd. He has The Firm and Mandy Moore’s manager and I thought this bode well for Taylor’s career. I know, that many will be pleased for a long quiet “niche” career for Taylor. I had hoped that he would make a splash out of the gate and then settle in to his niche. But who am I?? an unknowledgable fan, who fell in love with a voice and grew to admire the man who came with the voice.
But AI needs to keep producing people who sells alot of records or the whole premise of the show falls apart.
AI is suppose to be an Entertainment show. A Reality Singing Show. They should stick to what the show was originally all about and leaving the artist creating career to those in the music business.. One of the many reason why these Idols are so hated by those in the industry.. As far as they are concerned, AI is just using these singers to make more money for the franchise by pre-packaing them and pushing them into the mainstream waters to sink or swim. Not letting them cultivate their own talent and succeed on their own.
i haven’t been able to be around here much lately, but thought i’d stop by tonight, and i don’t understand all the negativity about taylor.
kudos to chris and kat. i’m a taylor fan who has come out right from hearing their early snippets to say that their stuff was going to go down really well. and why not? they have great talent, great producers, work in established genres. what’s with all the sour grapes?
taylor has been in a rough spot, winning the title and trying to give tptb what they want (mega-commercial-success), all while being a singer-songwriter working in a genre that is outside the mainstream of teen radio. even so, his quickie debut CD had some great songs, well produced, which i hope will see airplay down the road (The Deal, The Right Place), one potential commercial hit that is a lovely pop song (Just To Feel…and i can’t wait for the video, that’s gotta help) and some other tracks which were decent, and others that i would count as genial experiments with a powerhouse producer who nevertheless may not have been the very best fit. nevertheless, taylor is a great artist. he touches a place deep in our souls and illuminates all the hidden corners. he has a rare gift. it’s hard to fit that into an industry that is fixated on the bottom line. i don’t mind that other people working in established commercials genres are seeing some good success. i mean, good for them. what does it have to do with anything? i know we want everyone to see what we see, and maybe a different producer could have hit the nail on the head on every track, but it’s all gonna be okay.
taylor is forging a path here. he’s in it for the very long term. it’s a huge blessing that he now is in a place where he doesn’t have to worry about his rent and he can concentrate on music. give taylor time to try different producers or produce himself. to take a breath, to savor the times ahead when he will be done with the tour and can go away and take a break and write some new songs. i really think he can come up with a CD that will breakthru into the megabucks level, but in any event, i am expecting wonderful things from him straight down the line. so be happy, guys! the competition is over. he knows who he is. he doesn’t have anything to prove. and as fans who know what we like, neither do we.
You’re being tossed out on youra$$, your dreams are crushed, forget the Mustang and groupies. Clive says: ‘I know what will make for “good television” — let’s sing a song that will make them bawl….live! Can’t beat that for ratings’.
That song is a downer so let’s kick ‘em when they’re down.

Crying is a natural emotion. So what if they cry; it’s good for them. I want to see people who are real, and real people do cry.
You know, I honestly don’t see anything wrong with the way they put the pictures on the wall. I don’t think Taylor should get any preferrential treatment from AI.
Well, maybe I’m only imagining things, but it seems like last year, Season 5, Carrie’s face (Season 4 winner) was prominently displayed on the wall behind the contestants - the year before that it was Fantasia (Season 3 winner) whose face we saw most prominently behind the Season 4 contestants, and the year Fantasia won, it was Ruben pictured front and center, so to speak.
Makes sense to me, each year they have the reigning Idol’s picture front and center, pushing ‘back’ a notch the previous champ. The least they can do, I would think, but no, not this year - the American Idol Season 5 is shoved off beyond the camera’s range as the Season 6 contestants audition.
With not much promotion and probably not alot of $ spent on his album, Chris is becoming HUGE.
I have to imagine they have spent a lot of money on this cd and in particular on promotion. His face is everywhere and they have strongly pushed Home on radio. It’s paying off for him, but I think it had to have cost a good bit of money.
Ladybug-I think Taylor is one of the clear musical talents Idol has ever produced. It has given us great singers, no question. But Taylor is a complete musical package and he has had his voice heard and I truly believe he is here to stay.
He will be following a much different track than all the chosen ones, though, and I am fine with that.
I want more Taylor Hicks music — live and recorded (which I will get). That makes every vote I cast for him worth it to me.
I agree Ladybug and Sexgirl with what both of you said.
For me…I just want to see him perform his music. Everything works out the way it is suppose to, I really believe that. He needs to make the most of what is available and I think he is doing just that.
We do not know what is ahead for Taylor…but I believe it will be great. I decided a couple of weeks ago to just let go of my expectations and enjoy Taylor’s music, the tour and any other appearances he makes. It is all good.
By the way…I liked the “drink a spin” game…quite funny today as I was reading at work. You guys keep me laughing.
My secret hope is that Taylor realized that Clive was throwing him under the bus so he agreed to sing the half of the record that was pablum as long as he got the two songs he wrote on the album too. Consistently these two songs are pointed out as the best on the record. This way he is the singer-songwriter.
So as he jumps through all the useless monkey hoops that Clive is putting him through (that have nothing to do with selling more records or getting his music on radio), he has his legal team finding out how to get out of his contract early and is secretly writing all the songs for his next album.
I really think it’s too soon to worry about what the AI show will do with Taylor this season. I imagine it will be similar to previous seasons and at the very least, he should appear in the finale. He won, he got a commercial & a book, has been in various magazines, made a ton of appearances, ….. so I think it’s a little much to say he can’t catch a break.
If the rumor is true that AI is going to use a song of the fourth place finisher for the boot song this year , what is the point of the competition ? To me it is like AI is promoting a 4th place finisher as the winner. In other words , ” America got it wrong so we’re fixing it.” Don’t get me wrong , I like Chris but I don’t think they should use his song . AI knows very well that they can pimp this song and get big results. Look at ” Bad Day ” from last year , it wasn’t even a good song and with that exposure sales exploded. If AI is going to promote anyone other than the winner then what is the point of winning or voting ? JMHO.
I don’t get you people. Your guy won and has gotten a ton of things for winning yet you still think they owe him more? I don’t remember them doing all that much for some of the AI winners. I’m sure Taylor is very happy with what he’s received already from being the AI.
It wouldn’t matter who would have won AI5 , it just makes the competition and the voting pointless if TPTB pimp a non winner by giving a prime promotion spot for their cd. It makes the show pointless. In other words ” It Ain’t Right.” I think they should use a song from someone who isn’t involved with the show.
Chris’s band is not just for show. They are very good musicians as well as nice guys. The fans have embraced them, but Chris is the star, as it should be.
I personally don’t care how successful Chris gets. I will see him as a leader of a pre-packaged rock band. He is building his success on someone else’s spotlight. Preston - I disagree –

Another incredible video from Katja featuring the Purple Bus, Taylors Hat song and the Tour.

I couldn’t sleep. Does anyone have a myspace? Do you have to have a myspace to leave comments on Taylor’s myspace?

Mad, I’ll have to do it tomorrow. Hubby is trying to sleep, so I have my sounds muted. I’ve saved the url, though, for tomorrow. :)
Nite Rita……..going to watch the new vids at GoFish.

Katharine’s album leaked….
