Kai’s mom became ill when she developed a seizure disorder last year. He spends his days taking care of her, his nights working in bars as a musician. So, who’s going to take care of mom while he’s away competing on American Idol?
Kai’s got a decent enough voice, but not a ton of charisma, as least as far as I can see from his audition.In the Hollywood Rounds, he was shown choking on the lyrics of “Part Time Lover his songs. It does not bode well for his chances at the Top 12.

I doubt he will make it to top 12. Unless he does an AMAZING job in top 36
Unfortunately, I agree. He seems like such a nice guy, but has cannon fodder tattoo’d across his forehead unless he’s in a weak group and pulls a Charles Grigsby.
I think that Kai has an okay voice but that he is not very interesting. Maybe he will become more interesting if he plays an instrument, and if he should fall into his own groove. But right now he is not one of the contestants that I really care about.
And I think that unless he really steps it up, he’s not going to be in this competition for very long. Because IMO, there are people that have much better/more interesting voices, and much more interesting personalities than he has.
Seems like a very nice guy, but i don’t think he has anything that would make him stand out, which they will need to make the top 12. Of course we haven’t seen enough, and he could surprise, but for now, he’s just a nice guy with an ok voice.
Hope they show him next week though.
I actually like his voice a lot, but would need to hear more to see what he can or cannot do. Agree that since he hasn’t been seen he’s prob. cannon fodder. But liked his voice when he sang out, but some of the words were more spoken than sung.
Aah…I like Kai! Although now there is a little bit of confusion in the house when I say that since our shitzu is also named Kai and I hate him. (Not really, but he is a pest most of the time!) Heh.
i believe all we have seen of him was his audition. It was alright..he had a nice tone and can sing. Need to see more of him. Hopefully they show some of his hollywood stuff.
I think if we see him singing something, not from the 50s, on Tuesday’s show it will help him a lot when he gets to his semi-final. Right now, all I know about him is that he’s a sweetheart of a son, he’s super-good-looking, and he’s a good singer on a poor song choice. Smoke Gets In Your Eyes requires a big range w/little emotional payoff (I mean, “when a lovely flame dies, smoke gets in your eyes” hardly conveys “my heart is broken”).
Seeing him on a better, more contemporary, song before his first competition night may raise interest in him.
I liked him and want to see more.
Interesting to see if the producers decide to feature his Mom again next week or in round 36 to attempt to gain some pity votes.
Funny enough , no many people here seems to criticize him with his sob story compare to Danny who pretty much being hammer cause of his sob story. Which are not their fault at all cause AI producer seems like featuring contestants sob stories in this season.
I liked him too, but he may be too “chill” to succeed in this format. He also looked kinda old to me in his little video clip, and that could work against him I’m afraid. I do hope we get to see more of him, though, so viewers can make a fair and informed judgment about him.
Good voice but he won’t stand out over the much bigger sob stories and larger personalities.
I think some smoke got in my eyes while watching that again. Ha, ha, sorry, lame. What a good guy. I hope something comes from this for him!
I really liked him. I like his look, and his song choice was intriguing to me.
I really, really liked the little bit we’ve heard of him(more than I like most of the other guys who have been featured in Hollywood so far). The tone of his voice is very appealing to me – I want to hear him sing something else before they put him out to slaughter during one of the groups of 12. (I’m not 100% convinced he’s fodder yet but it’s not looking good as of right now.) Dude should have gotten himself in a group with Tatiana, Nathaniel or Katrina if he wanted to be on TV.
I liked Kai! Hope he does well.

He’s a great-looking guy, but I thought he auditioned with a weird song.
Fodder. With the way the semi-finals are being done this year he’ll need to be very lucky with the group of 12 he’s in. If he’s in a a competitive group he’ll have to hope for a wildcard.
I was really impressed with Kai’s audition and hoped he’d go on in the competition. There just seem to be a gentle nature about him which I liked. It depends on what TPTB want to do with him. I’d like to hear more.
