Sanjaya Malakar finally gets his homecoming party.  He’ll appear in the courtyard at The Commons (1928 S. Commons, Federal Way) at 4 p.m. Wednesday for a “Welcome Home” reception/autograph session.  For a dollar donation you can get Sanjaya’s autograph to benefit local relief agency World Vision.

At noon Saturday, he’s scheduled to appear at the Mural Amphitheater at Seattle Center (305 Harrison St.).  The event is free.  Sanjaya may, or may not sing. According to the press release, Sanjaya will be heading into the studio soon to work on his debut album. Hm.

According to an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Idol musical arranger, Michael Orland, Jon Bon Jovi was not crazy about Blake Lewis’s arrangement of “You Give Love a Bad name.  Michael says, ” I was in the room watching Bon Jovi with him and Bon Jovi was not digging it at all. But I thought it was so incredible and respectful of Bon Jovi’s version.

Jordin has sung more than just ballads well, she’s done “Give Me One Reason”, “Heartbraker” and “Hey Baby”……I liked her version of Give Me one reason a lot.

Next week songs Jordin should sing for sure are:

“Strawberry Wine (at 17)” - by Deana Carter

“The Edge of Seventeen” by Stevie Nicks

“I’m not a girl, not yet a woman” by Brittney Spears

    Patmoran-
Appreciate the feedback but my comment was based on the fact that Jordin always sings these big ballads and not uptempo songs, cause when she does they suck. My statement has nothing to do with after Idol is over, but about her performances week in and week out. Melinda gets blasted for being blah by singing the same thing over and over, yet is consistent and on pitch everytime. Jordin goes uptempo…ie BOn jovi or Gwen Stefani and its a trainwreck. She sings big power ballads ( and not consistently or very well 50% of time) and is gets praised. So in my mind, Jordin sticks to the big ballad as a safety net, yet Melinda gets blasted for her sameness, yet is the better singer IMHO. Hope that made sense…its late and I’m tired!!! :)

    Excellent point, Baxter.

Well, taken. I do agree Jordin appears to the “chosen” one.

Mosheeka….isn’t the song Hey Baby the Gwen Stefani song?? WOW, IMHO…that sucked LARGE!! To others it may have been fantastic…but me…not so much!! Heck I don’t even think Gwen liked it.

Maybe Jordin can sing the Janis Ian classic “At Seventeen.”

  6. 56 Kylene May 8th, 2007 at 11:12 pm

Maybe next week’s theme should be “Songs About Jordin’s Age”.

I think the rules might even allow that clever little tune from the Sound of Music, even though she’s no longer 16 GOING on 17.

That’s not true. Both Melinda and Jordin have been last 3 times. And Jordin is the only one to have been last 3 times in the finals. Lakisha has been last twice and Blake has been last once.

Meanwhile, Melinda and Blake have been first twice. Jordin has only been first once and has never gone first in the finals.

In other words, in the finals Jordin has had 33% of the pimp spots and 0% of the death spots. On average, Jordin gets the pimp spot every third week.

That is why people are upset.

I really love when Kirsten straight up tells the FACTS. Go Kirsten!

Is it possible for Jordin to sing anything other than a ballad????? And even then…IMHO….not very well most of the time.

But Damn she is only 17….so that must count for something…at least that is what the judges want us to believe. :)

Man, Bax… I don’t see you post much anymore, but damn, when you do, you’re straight to the point!!! Baxter is my friend. :)

She’s sung Broadway before with “You’ll Never Walk Alone” so she can sing that sound of music song….

Also, Mandy Moore has a song that Jordin can sing called “17″…

The ‘17′ theme couldn’t be any worse than Beegees or Bon Jovi night.

It was a great theme but the performances weren’t as good as I thought they would be. Enough of the pimping for Jordin. We know - she’s the Chosen One.

I think Melinda did a fine job tonight but she has to come up with that special “WOW” that Paula wants from her.

Both Blake and Lakisha struggled but they were not awful.

Talk about boring - I think Simon would rather be somewhere else.

Phil never got the pimp spot. Well maybe when it was Top 24. I really missed him tonight.
