This week the kids tackle the music of their grandparents…or their great grandparents…
Heh. I kid. It’s Rat Pack week–more or less a snazzier name for jazz standards week.
The Rat Pack was the nickname given to the clique of performers that hung out and performed together during the 60’s. The Rat Pack was the World War II generation’s idea of cool. Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Joey Bishop, Peter Lawford and Sammy Davis Jr were at the center of the pack. A few women–Shirley MacLaine and Lauren Bacall were honorary members.
Given the long musical careers of three of the Rat Pack’s members–Sinatra, Martin and Davis–there should be tons of songs to choose from. Nearly every famous jazz standard has been covered at one time or another between the three.
This week, the Top 5 tackle two songs apiece. Good luck fitting the judges comments into an hour long show! Just make sure Paula Abdul leaves her psychic at home…
What do you think the Idols should sing? I’ll edit in my picks later…
