That’s so funny. Just last week I was thinking that Gina should do an Evanescence song, that it would suit her style and help to separate her from the pack. I really hope she brings it - I like her and I especially like that she’s different from the other girls, some of which are downright interchangeable (especially at the Top 24 level). I’d also like to see Gina do Joan Jett’s “Crimson and Clover.”
Lakisha! Learn, baby, learn! “I Have Nothing” was done by Jennifer Hudson, by Katherine McPhee. C’mon girlfriend, check out some other material to avoid harsh comparisons — I already suggested “Bridge Over Troubled Water” and “Let It Be” — how about “Piece of My Heart”? Or “Rose of Spanish Harlem” or a gospel-y “You’ve Got Friend” or “Stone Soul Picnic”?? I know I’m betraying my age here, but criminy…somebody gotta help these kids.

Also, I’m wondering if Melinda is doing the Peggy Lee classic (which is what I suspect) or if she’ll be doing the Koko Taylor song (which would bring the house down).

I’m most looking forward to Stephanie’s performance - a great pick for her, and I hope she stays true to the original. I’m thinking Melinda will likely do a full-out version of “I’m a Woman” versus a jazzy one, given her choice last week. I assume Sabrina’s selection is a cover of the EnVogue hit, which is a similar style to what she has picked so far. Hope she at least nails it.
AI cliche city: I’m disappointed that LaKisha chose to drag out another overdone Whitney tune, and I doubt she will be attempting a more nuanced interpretation. She’s already demonstrated she’s got powerhouse vocals. I’d like to hear some other skills. She may be going home earlier than anyone would expect.

I can’t wait to hear what a trainwreck Antonella’s song will be. “Put Your Records” on only works because Corrine has such a cool distinctive voice and vibe. I can’t even remember what antonella sounds like, although I guess the word “ass” comes to mind.

I’m looking forward to “Heartbreaker” the most. I wanted to like Gina, but Amy Lee’s shrillness makes my ears bleed and I change stations whenever Evanescence comes on. Oh well, it really doesn’t matter. Gina and Haley will be gone because the 5 divas and Antoinella will advance, whether they should or not.
Why does everyone dislike Antonella so much? Sure, she can’t sing, but why not give Haley a hard time, she can’t sing much either. Is it the pictures that has caused this outrage? or the bitchy character AI has her playing?

Folk, She changed her song at the last minute. She WAS going to be singing Tiny Dancer (Elton). THAT is the song that she hit out of the park. Lord only knows who’s giving her advice.
Just vote for someone else who is likely to be going home (Like Haley, for instance). If you vote for a fave (Like Melinda), it wouldn’t effect Antonella’s totals, but voting for someone who is likely to get LESS votes than her, may work.
The only song I actually like on that list is “Put Your Records on” and Antonella is singing it. Sanjaya ruined one of my favorites last night in Waiting on the World to Change and now Antonella is going to ruin another one of my favorite songs. If she pulls it off though by some miracle I will be voting for her though because she actually chose a good song.
I have not liked any of the songs Melinda has chosen. I hate My Funny Valentine and that Aretha tune she sang was not that great either. I have never heard of “I’m A Woman”. LaKisha’s song selection is retarted. Trenyce, Jennifer Hudson, Vonzell and Katharine McPhee have all chosen that song in the past.
I am not excited at all by any of the choices - or anything at all this season for that matter.
GeminiDolly - I think the problem everyone has with Antonella is that she is clearly not good enough to be where she is and is taking the place of someone who deserves to be there. Most of her votes are supposed to be because of VFTW and fans of her pics.

Gina - Amy Lee she is not. And what a distinctive voice Amy Lee has. And what a big hit this song has been. Oh let the comparisons begin, and Gina, will, fall short indefinitely.

This was documented on the scary board last year. During Top 8 girls week, a group of Kellie-haters power-voted for Melissa in hopes of her getting voted in over Kellie. They succeeded in getting Melissa into the top 12…but at the expense of Ayla.
