Oh good god. Chris Richardson will murder “Smooth”. He doesn’t have the vocal chops for that. No Santana song should be touched tonight.

  2. 2 catira Apr 10th, 2007 at 5:32 pm

    Oh no!

I wanted Blake to sing Smooth not Chris! Oh well.

I really don’t think Chris has the vocal chops for that, I don’t hink he will do very well.

Anyways, I still hope Blake chose a great song…
    GO TEAM PLAID!

    stupid ricky!

  4. 4 St.Lucia Apr 10th, 2007 at 5:47 pm

Dangit. I totally wanted(like others) for Blake to do “Smooth”

Damn Chris and his übernasally voice. Rob Thomas he is not.

I think either Jordin or Sanjaya are doing “Conga”

It would never be Melinda or Lakisha because that’s wayyyy out of their comfort zone.

  5. 5 Preston Apr 10th, 2007 at 6:02 pm

Sanjaya is singing something in Spanish.

  6. 6 bean99 Apr 10th, 2007 at 7:01 pm

A lot of people think that Blake will do Maria Maria. I could imagine him doing it so I guess we’ll see. I don’t think that Chris R has the right voice for Smooth.

  7. 7 Den Apr 10th, 2007 at 7:36 pm

    Good God, leave Chris alone!

  8. 8 maracaibo Apr 10th, 2007 at 7:41 pm

I’ve heard Blake may be singing MAria Maria.
If this is true he is going bring the HOUSE down. OMG! That song is perfect for him, IMO>

It has to be him, no one else could do that song.
    So exciting! See ya later!

  9. 9 mosheeaka Apr 10th, 2007 at 8:09 pm

Is it me or did I just see Brenna Gethers sitting behind Paula Abdul>?

  10. 10 Sarah Apr 10th, 2007 at 9:15 pm

Chris was back to nails on the chalkboard for me this week. Ugh.

  11. 11 RenaRF Apr 10th, 2007 at 9:16 pm

The world is on its head tonight! Look at how my rankings came out:

    Blake Lewis
    Phil Stacey
    Lakisha Jones
    Melinda Doolittle
    Chris Richardson
    Jordin Sparks
    Sanjaya Malakar
    Haley Scarnato

I really didn’t hate Sanjaya tonight. He sounded sweet and had good strength and pitch. I really really hated Haley’s performance, though, by a long shot.

    What did everyone else think?

  12. 12 mstun3107 Apr 10th, 2007 at 9:19 pm

    uh
    thats bogus
phil was at the bottom due to his voice cracking twice
blake and jordin were the best with melinda behind them
sanjaya was fourth best tonight, not badddd

  13. 13 panz Apr 10th, 2007 at 9:22 pm

    Not a good week, overall.

The only ones I liked were Blake, Melinda, and Jordin.

LaKisha was just eh for me but better than most, in comparison.

Chris R, and Haley =not so good

Phil and Sanjaya were duller than dishwater.

  14. 14 RollTide Apr 10th, 2007 at 9:29 pm

Blake was HOT! By far, the best performance of the night. The rest were pretty much dull. I liked Jordin, but her and Blake were about it. I normally think Chris is OK, but he slaughtered that song.

  15. 15 Jovi Apr 10th, 2007 at 9:38 pm

I only liked Jordin and Blake the best.

Haley tramps it up for votes and I don’t like that. Simon was right, she’s not getting through on her vocals.

Phil and Haley in the bottom two. Unfortunately it will probably be Phil before Haley but it should be Haley going.

  16. 16 WestSide Apr 10th, 2007 at 9:40 pm

Sanjaya had the only true Latin performance of the night. That was hot!

  17. 17 mosheeaka Apr 10th, 2007 at 9:40 pm

    My recap:

Melinda “Sway” - Typical Melinda performance in my opinion. I have never been that crazy about her other than when she sang “Heaven Knows”. Randy and Paula liked it and Simon didn’t. For me it was the same as always, but I have never been a big fan of her.

LaKisha “Conga”- LaKisha was more upbeat this week. Randy loved it, Paula called it safe and Simon said it wasn’t good enough. I thought it was one of her better performances and thought it was pretty good. Perhaps a little de-pimping on the part of Simon.

Chris Richardson “Smooth”- He’s hip and cool and it was a great song choice, the bototm line though is he was out of tune. He is not a good vocalist and is only getting this far based on his looks and ability to make songs modern.

Phil “Maria, Maria”- Oh Lord Phil murdered this one. Boring, out of tune, just not good and not inspiring. Why is he still in this competition?

Haley “Turn the Beat Around” - I knew Haley would sing this song as soon as I found out the theme. She’s that predictable. And as predictable she flashed her legs and everything and Simon called her out on it saying “your strategy is to wear as little clothing as possible.” Her performance was not very good. Did not hold a candle to Diana DeGarmo’s performance of the same song. Got lost in the song. Too big for her.

Jordin “Rhythm is gonna get ya” - I thought she sang it well and she obviously is a rising star. It was an above average performance and very good vocals. However, Simon said it was like all of the other performances. Pretty good, but not great. Didn’t have as much fun as I wanted her to, but made up for it with her vocals.

Blake “I need to know” - Great performance and above average vocals. However, his vocals are good, they are just not great. His performance and showmanship makes up for it, but in the end I think his inability to have that ‘power’ voice will cost him the competition. I see him making the final two or three at least, and obviously he had some pimping tonight, but I don’t see him winning.

Sanjaya “Some song in Spanish” - Really was a safe song and not that challenging. The catch was that it was in Spanish. He sang it well, but it wasn’t much to sing. Perhaps Sanjaya should sing in Spanish every week. Paula loved it and Simon said it wasn’t terrible.

Overall- Somebody please tell Nigel Lythgoe to chose better themes. Last week’s Tony Bennet night was too old fashioned and Latin music is another terrible theme choice. That is why a lot of the divas looked bad- because the theme.

Bottom Three: Haley, Phil and one of the divas, probably Jordin
    Going home: Haley

  18. 18 RollTide Apr 10th, 2007 at 9:52 pm

    Sanjaya “Some song in Spanish”

I think the song was called Bore-A Me Mucho.

  19. 19 amys Apr 10th, 2007 at 9:55 pm

    “Bore-a me Mucho.”
I didn’t even see it, but I just about spewed Merlot on my computer screen after reading that.
    HAAAAAAAA!!

  20. 20 MaryR Apr 10th, 2007 at 10:14 pm

Well since no one could be bothered bringing an A-game to tonight’s show, I can’t be bothered writing a recap. Here’s how I rank ‘em (actually it is kind of everyone else in a bunch and Haley at the bottom - or did we see her bottom??)

    Blake
    Melinda
    Lakisha
    Chris
    Sanjaya
    Phil
    Jordin
    Haley

Next week, let’s have the theme be Gregorian chant - maybe that will be more exciting.

  21. 21 skylight1219 Apr 10th, 2007 at 10:22 pm

I think next week’s theme should be sung in Pig Latin. A nice follow up to this week’s genre, doncha think?

  22. 22 mosheeaka Apr 10th, 2007 at 10:28 pm

Oh I can just picture that ‘Gregorian Chant’ theme week. Blake will beat box one and the judges will tell him he made it “hip and cool”. Chris will chant out of tune and the judges will love it. Sanajaya will chant in Latin. Haley will chant naked. LaKisha will do some chant and insert a lot of runs. Melinda will “feel the lyrics of the chant”. If Phil is there it will be a ‘boring’ chant. Jordin will be “da bomb at only 17 dawg”.

  23. 23 maracaibo Apr 10th, 2007 at 10:42 pm

    Blake was the BOMB tonight!
Really loved his performance, and the boy can really really SING!

He hit all the notes effortlessly, LOVED his voice on that song!

Blake has to be in the finale, don’t care of he wins or not but he will be very successful either way.

    GO TEAM PLAID!

  24. 24 enna1961 Apr 10th, 2007 at 10:42 pm

    The most exciting thing tonight…
    Larry’s the baby’s Father

  25. 25 GeminiDolly Apr 10th, 2007 at 11:53 pm

Please American Idol, no more Latin theme nights, these kidos just can’t do it. Here’s how I ranked them
    1) Blake
    2) Melinda
    3) Lakisha
    4) Jordin
    5) Chris
    6) Sanjaya
    7) Phil
    8) Haley

I predict the bottom three will be Phil, Haley, and Chris with Haley going home.

  26. 26 AlwaysElliott Apr 11th, 2007 at 12:18 am

Please, God, let Haley go home. Seriously. Meh.

  27. 27 MaryR Apr 11th, 2007 at 12:34 am

    mosheeaka,

And while naked, Haley will “Turn the Chant Around”. Simon will declare all chant performances dated: “I could hear that in any 15th century church anywhere by any average monk.” Phil, however, will look authentic wearing the monk’s robes, with the hood artfully covering his bald head.

  28. 28 MaryS-NJ Apr 11th, 2007 at 10:29 am

Overall- Somebody please tell Nigel Lythgoe to chose better themes. Last week’s Tony Bennet night was too old fashioned and Latin music is another terrible theme choice. That is why a lot of the divas looked bad- because the theme.

The themes are chosen for cross-marketing potential; i.e. guest artists/mentors under Sony/BMG labels have albums to pimp get to sing. The themes aren’t chosen because they make sense for the competitors, who are just incidental to the real point: commerce.
