Thanks bean. I have not heard enough from the blog to entice me to watch yet. I have found some other things to keep me busy and so when I hear more than one person here really get excited I will start watching. Dancing With the Stars is coming soon so there is hope.
Well I gotta say, except for the blonde guy that does that box thingy, they all pretty much sucked for me. I was hugely disappointed in the show tonight. For one thing, almost all of them sound like boy band singers. Would give my eye teeth for one male that sang in a key lower then I do lol.
Tracy, you’re making me choke from laughing so hard. Sundance tanked in Hollywood and for some reason they’re trying to push him along. WHY, OH WHY? Do they think he’s this year’s Taylor? Far cry.
Give me some “Father Figure,” please. I’m in mourning for some Ace crack right now.
And as for Keene - I love them! When BBBoy did that song, I have to say he got a few points from me for making a good choice. BUT… This year is down the toilet, baby.
Ugh. That was awful. I was so excited when Blake started “Somewhere Only We Know” but I heard missed words, a fake British accent and the last 30 seconds had maybe one note on pitch. It was just a poor imitation of the original for me. At least he picked a decent song.
Chris S. sounded good, but the song was a little obscure. I guess he’s my favorite, but I didn’t even consider voting
Chris R., Sundance and Paul were laugh-out-loud funny bad for me. I want to hug Sanjaya and tell him not to sing slow Stevie songs (he should have switched songs with Brandon, who was cute but boring)
weelassie , I agree with you about Nicholas Cage , is not a good actor. No matter what movie he is in he plays the character the same ,although I did like him in ” It Could Happen To You”. For myself I don’t find many great actors in movies today. Most of them are adequate at best.
Tracy and DogDoc………you just brought up something that I did not know about last season. DialIdol or anything else that was followed, like the blogs and IDF etc. I didn’t start lurking on the AI boards until way later. I would think that would make the Idol experience different too.
That guy that sang I Dont Wanna Be sounded odd to me. i did not like his voice tone and to me, he is trying to much to imitate JT, the clothes even. Thats 3 times that song has been sung on AI and I still like Bo’s version best. I couldnt believe it when the judges went gaga over it.
I think the kid Sanjaya chose the wrong song. Memo to all idol wannabe’s ” Never touch the sacred ones songs” . If you choose Stevie , Mariah , Celine etc. you will be toast. Besides that , the song Sanjaya sang was a horrible , horrible song. I hated it when Stevie sang it.
Tonight was a huge letdown for me. There was hardly one performance I got to enjoy. They were either bad or barely passable.
I remember last season at this juncture when we had several outstanding performances …
Taylor did LEVON, Daughtry did WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE, Elliott did IF YOU REALLY LOVE ME ( which led Simon to exhuberantly claim — Yamin was potentially the best male vocalist in the history of American Idol), and Ace Young showed off his falsetto with FATHER FIGURE.
Tonight, I am afraid, every single performance was uniformly FORGETTABLE.
Never slow to recognise a bright young talent, by 1989 BMG had offered Simon a position as A&R Consultant. It was a relationship which would prove to be hugely successful, profitable and enduring, in fact since last year Cowell set-up his own label through BMG, S Records, reflecting the success and vision he has manifested.
Simon’s roster of signing reads like a who’s who of pop success stories over the last decade (including some seemingly unlikely ones). Highlights include, Curiosity Killed The Cat, Sonia, and cornering the boy band market, bad boys of pop Five (who disbanded last year) and the global multi-platinum phenomenon, Westlife. Always pop but never predictable, Simon has enjoyed some of his most successful signings by always keeping an eye firmly on the TV world, sensing a public following and always being the first knocking on the door. The Power Rangers, World Wrestling Federation, Zig & Zag and the Xmas Number 1 smash Teletubbies moved from the small box to the airwaves due to Simon, although, he claims his biggest shock success would come in the form of Robson & Jerome.
After convincing the unassuming TV actors that they had what it takes, Cowell and BMG watched Robson & Jerome notch up an incredible string of hit singles, holding the record for being the first act to debut with 3 consecutive number 1 singles (ironically they were later to lose this record to Westlife who hold the record for 7 consecutive number 1 singles and now famously have achieved a staggering 10 number 1’s).
To me it seemed like Simon was mad at Ryan Seacrest. When Chris Sligh mentioned singing with “Il Divo or the Teletubbies” Simon dismissed him by saying something about him singing with the latter (meaning the Teletubbies because Chris is “tubby”). Simon then sarcastically called Ryan “sweetheart” & then he got all grumpy at him.
I just checked DialIdol and there’s not too much of a change.
Can we just ban teenage girls from voting? That might explain why Chris Richardson and Sanjaya are also in the “safe” zone. I will tell you, the former is going to piss me off, possibly more than Sundance.
Hi Purps, I’m seriously considering leaving, the only reason I haven’t yet is because some of you are like old friends, but even some of them rarely post now.
Katharine is doing respectable for a debut artist during this time of the year. If her 30%ish drop for this week holds (Billboard has not released actual final totals) then she will be in line with the drops that Beyonce and several other current artists made in their 3rd weeks. At least it wasn’t a huge Christmas drop off of 80%. She has a lot better chance of staying consistent- and that is far more important than huge first week sales.
Secondly, did anyone ever think the reason why Ryan mentioned Carrie, JHud, Kat, and Chris last night is because they are the ones in the news right now? Carrie has the grammy buzz, JHud has the Oscar buzz, Chris has the sales buzz, and Katharine has been EVERYWHERE the last few weeks. When people turn on the TV that don’t know much about Idol those are the 4 getting the most media time right now- so it makes sense that they would get mentioned.
Ryan didn’t mention Kelly Clarkson, Ruben, Fantasia, Bo, or many of the other successful AI hasbeens. He doesn’t have to mention only the winners and he doesn’t have to mention last season’s winner every week. They will all get their chance to be mentioned and have the spotlight.
This season is proof that the only reason to watch AI and the only reason to vote for any contestant is VFTW. TPTB don’t care who’s the winner anyway, they promote whomever’s more commercial-sounding. The only thing left is to help the sucky ones make it through another week, so that we get to watch a more entertaining show.
Keane is from the UK. I think they formed in the late 1990’s but I’m not sure when their first CD came out…check Amazon maybe.
Thanks bean. I have not heard enough from the blog to entice me to watch yet. I have found some other things to keep me busy and so when I hear more than one person here really get excited I will start watching. Dancing With the Stars is coming soon so there is hope.
Off topic…. Primetime has a very interesting program on about genetic sexual attraction. Pretty unusual.
Well I gotta say, except for the blonde guy that does that box thingy, they all pretty much sucked for me. I was hugely disappointed in the show tonight. For one thing, almost all of them sound like boy band singers. Would give my eye teeth for one male that sang in a key lower then I do lol.
I’m watching BB boy then going to bed. Last year was fun - this year is boring me to death.
The best part so far was when they showed the four guys singing during the H’wood round.
Is BBboy doing well on DIal Idol? He might actually be interesting if he mixes it up next week.
Beatboxer is currently sitting fourth on DialIdol.

Everyone else, meh.

Found the song that Sligh did - from an indie-pop group “Mute Math”

Except when you’re Taylor Hicks doing Living For the City or Elliott Yamin doing If You Really Love Me.
BTW, what was Simon Cowell’s deal with the TELETUBBIES ? I don’t get that one….
More Blake *gasp* singing (w/ a little beatboxing thrown in). And he plays guitar y’all.

BTW, I don’t know what Chris Sligh said that caused it, but I’ve never seen Simon FUMING this bad before. Was it IL DIVO or TELETUBBIES ?
Sligh is coming in as being too well-research and calculating, treating this contest like a mind game, sorta like chess. That’s turning people off.
He oughta relax and just let Simon talk and let Ryan defend him the way he did with Taylor last season.
Simon appeared absolutely livid after Chris Slighs remarks. Chris has a mountain to climg after that remark.
just throwing this out there…
anyone think the surprise AI alum will be JHud?
it definitely won’t be Chris, Taylor, or Kat b/c they’re all busy…
I did a little googling and found this about Simon’s relationship to the Teletubbies …

Never slow to recognise a bright young talent, by 1989 BMG had offered Simon a position as A&R Consultant. I just learned that Simon also produced “A Teletubbies Christmas” soundtrack. Wonder how that would sound like ?
Simon has shown a side of him that I’ve never seen before — He can dish it, but he can’t take it.
Really, if Simon had something to do with the Teletubbies, why should he be upset ? Shouldn’t he proud of it ?
The man can’t take what he routinely delivers.
I knew the song sounded familiar, lol! I have their EP; I should have recognized it.
And for those who haven’t checked out Keane, they’re great. Do check.
I just checked DialIdol and there’s not too much of a change.

I’ve been posting for months about Simon’s track record.
I ask myself why I bother.
Because you love the rest of us, Lisa. ;-) And we’d be lost without you… :-)
Hi Purps, I’m seriously considering leaving, the only reason I haven’t yet is because some of you are like old friends, but even some of them rarely post now.
Such a shame as this was once a great blog.
Don’t you dare!!! You want Dingo hounding you with her famous bunny slippers? Why, she went almost ballistic the few hours you were gone yesterday…
I still think it is. :-) But it won’t be anymore if you leave, that’s certain…
I say just ignore when necessary. :)
All I will say is sometimes pure ignorance coupled with arrogance is hard to ignore, however hard you try.
Well being a Keane fan, I found Blake’s rendition seriously bad.
A couple things:
Katharine is doing respectable for a debut artist during this time of the year.
