Patty Cee — Very thoughtful post. I think Tay maybe a bit gun shy. The media has a tendency to twist every word and then his fans over analyze everything.

griz……..I just meant SoCal area. I also have been in touch with KOST since about three weeks ago, not in a pushy way,and only a couple of times, just reminding a couple of the DJ’s about JTFTW and asking that they play it. I did get that e-mail back from Mike S. but not sure if it is a form to which they insert the song requested, or not. I sent Karen Sharpe a request for Places I’ve Been if it is possible and received a form letter back. I have not been able to get through on the phone, but I have had some health issues and traipsing to the doctors and a dentist and not feeling so hot. Hopefully soon, you will see it popping up in the west and thanks for keeping track.
I wish chat was working because the TX audition looks like good snarking material.
Sexygirl– you don’t need to explain the ins and outs of Taylor’s post idol journey… I get it. I simply am not feeling the guy and I know I have the right to my opinion.
As for people thinking that I am pushing that opinion on others, I apologize if it came off like that. I would never try to push my opinions on others and expect the same in return. I may have used to wrong word choices.
And “my favorite” unfortunately is not Katharine as you may think. I’ve stated many times that I thought Elliott was the best and had the best voice. He’s just not really a hot topic around here so I choose to speak more openly about my second favorite, which is Kat. And I don’t love either one of them. I’ve kind of moved on. People making fun of Kat seriously leaves no dent on me anymore. I could care less. I still think she’s cool but she annoys the hell out of me sometimes too. Taylor just annoys the hell out of me the most.
Patty Cee– Amazing post. For the most part, I completely agree with you. I have always envisioned Taylor as a “jam band” type of guy and I do think he is trying to make himself a commercial success which I don’t think will work. That’s why I use words like “fail.” Not saying he’s failing in the literal sense but failing by not staying true to the type of music he’s meant to do.
I really do find him incredibly annoying and not someone I would like to see in magazines and all over MTV. If he was more on the music side of things rather than the promotion side may be less inclined to hate him.
I’ll be honest with you. I don’t there will be a video - I haven’t heard a peep about it since it was casually mentioned in an MTV/VH1 interview a week or two ago.
Taylor is in the middle of rehearsals for his tour now. It starts in less than 3 weeks. No way does he have time to film it, if he hasn’t already done so.
I’ll be the first one to jump up and down if I’m wrong on my assumption, but logically I don’t see it happening now.

Maybe it’s wishful thinking but maybe just maybe Taylor is in process of filming or has filmed the video for “JTFTW”. He just now started rehearsing for his tour so he could of had time in the past week. Valentine’s Day is coming so what better gift for fans of his and his music then to provide a video. Then his tour is about to begin ….. so timing could have been in the thoughts of planning all of this. Then again as I said ……… wishful thinking. :)
But how come griz?MTV confirmed there will be one. Even Taylor said so himself. Have you personally asked GRay or Taylor to confirm this?
I really think a video will help promote his single, heck even BUcky is doing one. How come all the idols have videos and Taylor does not?

I think the MTV piece said it was in the early stages or something like that - never did say they were actually going to shoot it. Listen, I have NO idea if or when there will be a video - I’m not in touch with Taylor nor have I asked Gray about it. I believe if Gray had any info worth knowing, he would publish it. All that said, I hope there is one, but my gut tells me it will not come to fruition at this point in time - just MY opinion on the matter.

A new AC station (WHUD) showed up as a ‘format’ starter station, and it’s in NY state!!
Two new radio stations turned up on YES as playing JTFTW, and both are monitored for mediabase. One is an AC station in Louisiana, and the other a Top 40 station in Tennessee

griz……….OMG, is it true that life isn’t fair? How did I not know that? Sometimes there is a word that has been coming into my mind and I don’t like it. It is probably not true and I am not a paranoid person. But there is something strange about how Idol is handling their current champion.
I agree mad - something is not kosher, but you know what? The more Taylor can distance himself from AI and the quicker he can become the true independent musical force he really is, without the AI winner tag plastered on him and the less pressure he has to ‘outsell and outdo’ everyone simply because he won AI5, the better off he’ll be in the long run doing his own thing. This may cause a few “less sales” in the short term, but he will thrive and live in the long term, imo. It’s okay as far as I’m concerned.
griz……..I agree about both something not being kosher and that he will be better off when he can get away from the constant comparisons.
KTINTN……..thanks for posting but that is another thing that I hate………watching charts. Nothing to do with you, but more to do with the state of the music business. I know that any song on Taylors album is as good as most that are out there today, and better than alot of them. I sample stations every week to see what is being played, where. I live for the day when I don’t give a damn anymore.
Most likely Taylor is very careful choosing his words in these interviews because he has had his words twisted and he has had to use much energy to set the record straight. Reporters and journalists like to stir trouble and I don’t blame Taylor one bit for choosing his words carefully. Frankly , many media types still have the AI5 competition going on and are trying to push their favorite and slam the others. I’m sure that Taylor has people he knows that he can trust and he’s smart enough to know that you can’t trust everybody especially when some people have their own agenda.
For the purists, the Billboard review of JTFTW should show up in this link on the Billboard site, but I can’t get it to work. Argh.
AFan, it cracks me up for some reason that you find Taylor Hicks incredibly annoying. I think he’s almost insanely appealing.
DogDoc, thanks also for reading my long-ass post. I understand that fans do tend to overanalyze things and that can’t be fun for anyone, no less a deeply private person as Taylor seems to be. My post, though, was more about analyzing myself and the things that are bugging me a little bit. I just wanted to get them out there.
I was glad to read that someone in Taylor’s road band was stressing on GC that Taylor’s long-term emphasis will be touring, not trying to score commercial radio hits. I think that’s great. After all, the tour vibe Taylor has mentioned wanting to emulate, ie The Grateful Dead, Jimmy Buffet, et al, one of the reasons such acts did so well is because they pretty much stuck to what they and their fans liked and they didn’t care much one way or the other about airplay. They had their hits but didn’t bite their nails about it.
I do love the idea Taylor flew a while back about selling CDs at each venue of the live performance. I think there may be a brilliant occassion there for multiple subversive radio hits, without having to run things thru the Hollywood committee.

Fans of “American Idol” winner Taylor Hicks know exactly where to get his indie disc, “Under the Radar.” For months, it’s been available only at Laser’s Edge, a CD store in Homewoood.
Small wonder, then, that Hicks will make an in-store appearance at Laser’s Edge on March 10, when he returns to Birmingham for two concerts at the Alabama Theatre. No time was announced for Hicks’ visit to the store, but his publicist has confirmed the date.
I just watched the AI San Antonio auditions. Five University of Oklahoma students traveled from Norman, OK to San Antonio and were dubbed “the Oklahoma Five” by the Idol crew. Although their auditions weren’t shown, 3 of the students made it through to Hollywood - Tony Foster, Jr., Laura Gossett, and Michael Preston. Yay! However, from the spoiler list it does appear that 2 of them (Michael and Laura) made it to the Top 40 but did not advance to the Top 24.
It does appear that Phil Stacey did make it to the Top 24. I’m interested in him only because apparently he has ties to Shawnee, Oklahoma and some of his family still lives here. I’ve lived in Shawnee now for the past 6 years.

Phil is the one that they aren’t sure if he is still in the top 24. They think he may have been disqualified so his status isn’t totally sure.
“A Song For You” will be on Elliott’s album? Yay!!! :)
