But Jordin has also had different hair styles (infact i think she’s had more than sanjaya) and I don’t really see dying your hair as radical, especially after Blake said he was growing out his hair to be “beatle-like”
Fair enough. This is MJs and we are all entitled to our opions.
I disagree, but such is life. The press has made a HUGE deal about Sanjaya’s hair and I cannot recall a mention of Jordin’s, but we all have our own impression on things.
Let us just agree to disagree! Peace! Sanjaya is LOVE!!!!
Oh, those summer days when MJ served Mai Tais and we sat on our lawn chairs watching the train wrecks. La! I feel tonight is a night for Mai Tais and lawn chairs.
I’m excited about Blake’s hair. Open up any music magazine and you’ll see lots of dudes with black hair and pale skin. Blake has mentioned he likes to dye his hair and it’s been black in the past, so no biggie. At least to me. I’m having fun reading the snark, though. If Blake finally provides some season six snark, I’m happy. :)
Watching Bon Jovi songs calls for beer, I think. Maybe Corona’s with lime. Very summery.

Q: I love Ray LaMontagne, and I thought it was great when you were talking about your choice to cover his song “Trouble” on American Idol and saying “my whole goal is to let people see about that music that’s real and not to let it slip.” But did you ever feel like you were speaking . . . a foreign language during the time you were on AI with tastes for “real” music?
Taylor: To a certain degree, yeah. It was a very tough task. But I found that the love of performing, I mean that was my true gig. You listen to what’s popular now, pop radio, and . . . I really want to keep real music in the forefront. I’ve been touring that idea, I’ll be touring that idea forever.
I went to see Ray LaMontagne right when that Trouble album came out, about two years ago. I like him. I like his recorded music better. He’s obviously, it seems to me, a performer that doesn’t really like being there.
Metta - thanks for that link. That was a very good interview. And I particularly enjoyed the comment post from our old friend Dingo! Dingo, are you there?

I had tickets to see Ray, but had to give them to my friend. She said exactly what is said above. He was not comfortable performing at all.
You know, I thought it was OK to snark on ALL idols here?? So, good luck to the black haired gimmick boy and, because this just isn’t said enough: GO TEAM INDIFFERNCE!!!

It is :)
The Plaidster is doing “You Give Love a Bad Name” with only drums. I can hardly contain my excitement! No one can claim he doesn’t take risks.
Metta - thanks for that link. That was a very good interview. And I particularly enjoyed the comment post from our old friend Dingo! Dingo, are you there?
Gray Charles also commented on the interview. It was nice to see an interview with some substance.
Hey, didn’t 311 or Jamiroquai sing it that way once?? Surely one of his fave artists did… after all, he has no originality and is just a gimmick, yanno! ;)
Hey…………just got home and going over the posts. Man, you guys have been entertaining today. Can’t wait to read tomorrow after the boots.
AFan………… Taylor’s damned if he doesn’t say anything and damned if he does. He’s damned if he moves around and damned if he doesn’t. My advice Try not to read anything about him.
If Blake dyes his hair black, I am sure they will up the makeup with a rosy tone. Otherwise he will glow.

Nevada - Thanks for the posts. Very interesting. Why do YOU think music sales are down if interest in music remains high?
Also, why do some tours make money (Taylor seems to think it’s how he’ll make his living) and others end up in the red?
I suspect that CD sales are down because there are too many albums out there with 3 or 4 good songs (if that; I’m being generous) — and all too often, no GREAT songs — surrounded by or buried under so much mediocre filler.
Why pay for 12 tracks when you only like a couple of songs? For that matter, why pay for any music if the songs you do like are in heavy rotation on the radio, far beyond the point of saturation?
The cynical view is, of course, that it’s easy to express “interest” in music as long as it doesn’t cost you any money. I’m kind of interested in a yacht….
As for touring, it can be a double-edged sword. While there are mega-acts who can fill stadiums, those shows tend to be extremely expensive to produce. I was just reading about a Britney Spears concert tour a few years back that brought in nearly $24 million in ticket sales but was so costly that her net after expenses was only about 8% (say $1.9 million) before assorted management fees and taxes.
There’s definitely money to be made on tour, including through merchandising, but the trick is to control costs so that expenses don’t consume every dime AND to develop a fanbase that will come out to see you when you’re in town.
Taylor did reasonably well first time out, based on what I’ve seen on Boxscore.
Hmmm, there is alot of people I can say that about.
There sure are.
AFan………… Taylor’s damned if he doesn’t say anything and damned if he does. He’s damned if he moves around and damned if he doesn’t. My advice Try not to read anything about him.
He didn’t say anything that bad. He just needs to get over himself with his damn artistry talk. Hes not gods gift to music and hes not as talented as he thinks he is. My opinion of course.

Yep, your right. Doesn’t he know that he should only be talking that artistic stuff when his cd sales are over 2 million.. Shame on him..
Metta thank you for the link. That is a great site.
I have to say that I like Ray L live more than his studio CDs. His voice unleashes very nicely live.(whatever the fuck that means). Most of the time I listen to Ray’s live recordings instead of his studio CDs.
Its been said Taylor was drunk and singing Sam Cooke songs to Ray.
Maybe that is what made Ray uncomfortable.

I hate to say it but I liked Phil tonight. WTF is happening to me?!?!?
Phil was totally and completely awesome. This was the performance that I have been waiting for from him.
I guess Paula and Randy didn’t get the cue card that says “Please remember, we put Phil first for a reason….his votes are too high so please take Simon’s cue and diss Phil without merit.”
Of course Taylor comes off as a bit full of himself at times. To slog it out for ten years in bars, making almost no money, to continually promote yourself to people…you HAVE to believe you have talent. Most artists and entertainers do. I don’t have a problem with any of the Idols being full of themselves, really, and yes, Taylor’s “I’m an ARTISTE” talk is snarkworthy, but I don’t think it’s like a reflection on his character or anything like that..
Phil was awesome tonight. Guess it just lends more credence to the pre-scripted credits theory.
No Kat news for today. She is doing a bunch of radio concerts, but no real “tour” has been announced yet.
However. Kat will be Montreal on May 5th to make a radio appearance, and to attend (but not perform) what seems like a fairly posh “Denim and Diamonds” fundraiser:
Metta - lol - This is only 4 songs performed live. One is a new one - Easy Lover (Phil Collins). Elliott has kept me hopping. It’s like being on a never ending song scavenger hunt!
I thought Lakisha and Blake were the best tonight. I enjoyed Jordin’s song and didnt think she was nearly as bad as the judges said. Phil was good but just doesnt connect with me. Melinda was good but didnt impress me like she did the judges. I thought Chris was very nasally and the worst. This is the first time a contestant got to me enough this year for me to vote. I voted nonstop for lakisha for 45 min. with hardly any busy signals. Not a good thing. Looks like shes in trouble this week. I love Bon Jovi music and Jon doesnt seem to age but just gets better looking. :)
Taylor on Ray LaMontangne:
All he said was that Ray didn’t seem like he enjoyed performing live. How is this ‘diva’ talk by Taylor?
Jaysus. When he offers one-syllable answers to the same set of twenty questions, he gets beat up. When he offers a real opinion, he’s slammed for being “full of himself”. It’s a wonder the guy ever opens his mouth beyond “boxers or briefs”.
Loved Blake tonight…look and song. Dialidol has Jordin in first place and Lakisha and Chris last. Phil did okay, I guess, but there is just something about him that annoys me so much that I can’t listen objectively. I’ll take your word for it that he did well.
Lisa B, sorry. I thought you had gone, but, apparently, my screen just froze. I’m glad to hear your son’s doing ok. Happy belated birthday to him. :) See you later. :)
I think the best part about watching American Idol Rewind is Ryan Seacrests hair
Fair enough. This is MJs and we are all entitled to our opions.

Gina got dumped? sorry but LOL poor girl.
I’ll be taking drink orders at the bar… ;)
Oh, I couldn’t agree more, I am so excited about tonight!

Wow, I can really feel the love for Blake in HERE today!
#1 - Chris is not the ONLY one who wore guyliner on AI last year, nor is he the first guy ever in the history of the world to wear it.
#2 - Blake dying his hair black (if indeed that is true), is not the same as “stealing someone’s gimmick”… he has his own thankyouverymuch. ;)
#3 - Truly doubt he’s singing Living on a Prayer since Jordin’s singing it.
And since it’s not said NEARLY enough - GO BLAKE! GO TEAM PLAID! GO BLAKER GIRLS!
SAVE THE BEATBOXER. SAVE THE WORLD.
Bring. It. ON.
More than you can say for any of the other remaining contestants, eh?
Watching Bon Jovi songs calls for beer, I think. Maybe Corona’s with lime. Very summery.

Excellent, revealing interview with Taylor:
I AM FUEL, YOU ARE FRIENDS blogspot

get over yourself Taylor, he’s so lame.
Hmmm, there is alot of people I can say that about.
JJ, not telling you not to snark. Not one bit. Bring it on sistah. :)
Blake’s gonna kick ass tonight and that’s ALL that fucking matters. Spoilers are in and he is back and with a vengeance.
It is :)

Gotta go take a shower before the show. I’ll see y’all in chat.
Oh I’m sure they can.

I’ll take a virgin pina colada, please. I’ve also gotten into Shirley Temples lately–just go easy on the grenadine :)
Taylor does come across a bit self entitled to me at times.

The only ass gimmick boy can kick is Metta’s and I will be rooting for that one.
Me neither, but for probably totally different reasons than you.

Speaking of entitlement, Radname, what is new on the Kat front? When is she going on tour?
Jordin has red streaks in her hair. Is she gimmick girl?
I don’t know about a gimmick girl, but she is a hot mess singing.
Metta thank you for the link. That is a great site.

Before that, in a radio station promo, one lucky Quebecois (?) will get the opportunity to SHOP with Kat:

“Over It” actually hit Top 10 in Canada airplay-wise, so she is pretty popular there.
For my Elliott friends.

Lu - lmao! How many diff versions of Elliott Yamin cds are out there in the world? ;)
Is nowhere safe?
Metta - lol - This is only 4 songs performed live. One is a new one - Easy Lover (Phil Collins). Elliott has kept me hopping. It’s like being on a never ending song scavenger hunt!
“and yes, Taylor’s “I’m an ARTISTE” talk is snarkworthy, but I don’t think it’s like a reflection on his character or anything like that..”
It only makes him SEEM like a ginormous tool

I’ve looked everywhere for the Save the BeatBoxer, Save the World post but can’t find it.
