The final push for the Idol crown is the TV Guide cover story for their May 19 issue (on newsstands this week).
Dark horse Syesha Mercado says, “I believe if you’re passionate about something, it has to happen for you.” In other words, watch out peeps! I still think it’s entirely possible that Syesha could sneak into the Final Two…
David Archuleta defends his stage dad Jeff, “I’ve heard some of the weird things that people have been saying, and it’s kind of a bummer…I think I, of all people, would know what’s going on, and he’s been great. He’s given me a lot of good advice and helped me from making any dumb decisions. He understands more than anyone what I want in music, and I’ve felt really blessed to have to have someone like that.”
Meanwhile, there’s a detailed account of Jeff Archuleta in the studio with David micromanaging his recording session. I can hear a collective sigh of relief from the Idol staff now that Daddy Archuleta has been banned from the rehearsal hall.
David Cook has refused to use his brother’s illness–brain cancer–as part of his backstory, “The sympathy vote idea leaves a real sour taste in my mouth…I swore to Adam and I swore to myself when I got on the show that if I was gonna do well or poorly, it was gonna be on my own merit.” The Adam Cook story has become part of the picture, regardless, even if only to the internet fans who follow the show closely. David says he welcomes the show as a mental break from the stress of his brothers illness, yet, “By the same token, what he’s [Adam] is going through, allows me to kind of have a purer perspective Yeah, Idol is huge and it’s career building, but it’s just a show.”
