TV Guide covers the Final 3

The final push for the Idol crown is the TV Guide cover story for their May 19 issue (on newsstands this week).

Dark horse Syesha Mercado says, “I believe if you’re passionate about something, it has to happen for you.” In other words, watch out peeps! I still think it’s entirely possible that Syesha could sneak into the Final Two…

David Archuleta defends his stage dad Jeff, “I’ve heard some of the weird things that people have been saying, and it’s kind of a bummer…I think I, of all people, would know what’s going on, and he’s been great. He’s given me a lot of good advice and helped me from making any dumb decisions. He understands more than anyone what I want in music, and I’ve felt really blessed to have to have someone like that.”

Meanwhile, there’s a detailed account of Jeff Archuleta in the studio with David micromanaging his recording session. I can hear a collective sigh of relief from the Idol staff now that Daddy Archuleta has been banned from the rehearsal hall.

David Cook has refused to use his brother’s illness–brain cancer–as part of his backstory, “The sympathy vote idea leaves a real sour taste in my mouth…I swore to Adam and I swore to myself when I got on the show that if I was gonna do well or poorly, it was gonna be on my own merit.” The Adam Cook story has become part of the picture, regardless, even if only to the internet fans who follow the show closely. David says he welcomes the show as a mental break from the stress of his brothers illness, yet, “By the same token, what he’s [Adam] is going through, allows me to kind of have a purer perspective Yeah, Idol is huge and it’s career building, but it’s just a show.”

More after the JUMP…

  • I LOVE the cover, and I want that page 1 pic of Cook in poster size. Guhh at the hotness.

Do we know if EW has any plans for an AI cover story, or did that boat sail with the “How do they pick their songs” article?

  • On another note, I like that Cookie went into this thing refusing to play for the sympathy vote. He knows the story is out so talks a little, but I think it’s great that he wants to get somewhere on his own merrits.

And… he looks pretty nice. Whomever said that Sy looks old in her poster, ITA, not very flattering photo of a girl I think is beautiful. It’s unfortunate that Archie got the sweater wardrobe selection….they could have made him look much less dorky.

  • oh man what a gr8 pic of dC :)
    ty for posting them

  • I dont see anything unique about Syesha rather the opposite the same old same old same old. Give me a female Amy Winehouse anyday without the shreiking and runs. Little David is playing up the daddy angle but what you all forget is daddy ´s private coach arranges David ´s songs and he is not ready for this. He cannot even do an interview and when asked questions he giggles.

David Cook is the ready made package. He has the works. His arrangements are masterpiece and Debra Byrd, the vocal coach says that he is a visionary. Don ´t be misled by all this Little David press. Where did Jordin go – America needs an International star and David Cook is that. There is such a buzz about him on all the international sites.

  • I’m glad that DC seems to be the focus of the photos (even if it is only because he’s taller). He’s going to need the practice being the center of attention because he sure is going to get a lot of it after he’s crowned the winner next week!

  • Oh, lo!! DC looks scrumptious!!! :smoke_tb:
