Oh Des, I’m with you on that one. IMO, Phil was the best last night. He could be a big hit in Nashville. I’m sure TPTB noticed.

  2. 252 Paula Apr 18th, 2007 at 7:16 pm

Welcome to the soulpatrollers’ world. Unlike Taylor, at least Kat has sales, poor tho’ they may be. lol

Yes, she has sales, but her video is now on VH1 and in most all the movie theaters in the US, and she still doesn’t have 300,000 CD sold.

  3. 253 Desdemona Apr 18th, 2007 at 7:18 pm

I agree…and that, for me, is a very, very bad thing.

I know, Boulder. Have never liked the ‘tone’ of her voice, not to mention all the melisma and the enunciation of many of her words grate on my nerves like fingernails on chalkboard.

Also, it doesn’t help that I just don’t like her, period. :)

Paula ~ “Yes, she has sales, but her video is now on VH1 and in most all the movie theaters in the US, and she still doesn’t have 300,000 CD sold.”

Imagine if the cd were really good, with all that money thrown at it!

  5. 255 Desdemona Apr 18th, 2007 at 7:22 pm

Nola, I thought Phil and Jordin and Melinda were all super last night!

  6. 256 Paula Apr 18th, 2007 at 7:28 pm

Desdemona — If it were really good, she wouldn’t have to have all that money thrown at it. I don’t see how she’ll ever recoup her expenses on this one.

  7. 257 xoxoyc Apr 18th, 2007 at 7:36 pm

Nanny is correct I was referring to all CD sales being sucky. They are just really, really low.

Having a video on VH1 really doesn’t do much for sales anymore.

And it appears that Katharine has a gold album as it is now being reported in AI magazine. So a gold album off one single isn’t too bad.

With a solid 2nd single she could have steady sales and she is doing some dates this summer, so hopefully sales will pick up.

  8. 258 Desdemona Apr 18th, 2007 at 7:39 pm

Paula, after I posted that, I tried to think of a better way to ’say’ it, and as you said just now…. it wouldn’t have HAD to have all that money thrown at it if it actually WERE any good. Without the big bucks putting her face and video out there everywhere, she tanks. At what point, I wonder, do they quit throwing the money and admit it’s not going to be a big one.

  9. 259 Kat Apr 18th, 2007 at 7:47 pm

I was referring to all CD sales being sucky. They are just really, really low.

When we screened Before the Music Dies last night, we also had a panel discussion with professors and entertainment law professors. one of the profs/attys mentioned that CD sales are really sucky and that she believes that the recording industry is merely coming full circle. In the 60s it was a singles market; it later shifted to full albums and CDs; now, with the advent of iTunes, singles are coming back. So it’s not necessarily doom and gloom for the entertainment industry if they figure out how to adapt instead of fighting the trend.

Oh, and congrats to Kat on shipping gold.

  10. 260 jpfan Apr 18th, 2007 at 7:51 pm

Other than the AI magazine, any other proof that Kat was certified gold. I’m not disputing it but I’m surprised they shipped another 200,000 copies of her CD. So you’re telling me between top 2, 1/2 million CDS are in retailer’s warehouses waiting to be sold. Oh boy. I wish them both good luck in a lousy sales environment like this.

when I first started reading all these comments about the picker, I thought y’all were talking about the guy playing the banjo or pedal steel last night.

I thought you were all talking about ***

See, I was trying to be an ambassador of goodwill - throwing out some snark about Tay’s sales - y’all gotta get all literal on me - no good deed goes unpunished. *Sigh* :)

  13. 263 xoxoyc Apr 18th, 2007 at 8:01 pm

JP: They shipped 350,000 copies initially. With close to 300k now scanned it is not beyond the realm of possiblity that they would have shipped 500k. Remembering of course that shipments count as sales to the record company since they pay for the product.

It has now appeared in two magazines, AI and I believe the other one EW (they did a profile on all season 5 AI’s and listed Pickler and Kat as Gold, Daughtry 2x Platinum, Taylor Platinum, and Elliott as newly released.

  14. 264 radname Apr 18th, 2007 at 8:08 pm

I know when Elvis first came out, the singles weren’t even on the full-length records. Imagine how weird that would be now? Oh I also have to say about the V-Tech, i find posting him images and videos he sent to NBC as glorifying him and i don’t think it should be done. We all remember the shooters in Columbine because their photos were shown over and over again.

  15. 265 mj Apr 18th, 2007 at 8:10 pm

See, I was trying to be an ambassador of goodwill - throwing out some snark about Tay’s sales - y’all gotta get all literal on me - no good deed goes unpunished. *Sigh* :)

I appreciate the effort, Metta. *sigh*

  16. 266 jersey Apr 18th, 2007 at 8:11 pm

Apparently they guy referenced the columbine shooters in his tapes or his “manifesto”.

  17. 267 neonorange Apr 18th, 2007 at 8:12 pm

I agree Radname. They should focus on the heroes in the story instead of the freak. The fact that his name is going down in history is not a good message to the rest of the freaks out there.

  18. 268 radname Apr 18th, 2007 at 8:12 pm

Sales this week were sucky, why aren’t people buying cds anymore? I don’t buy cds because i love music, and in order to buy all the cds that i wanted i’d have to be extremely, donald trump-like rich

  19. 269 jpfan Apr 18th, 2007 at 8:15 pm

Again, not disputing People Mag but don’t record companies announce them. Anyway, if they shipped gold that’s fine. AI can now brag about platinum and gold records in their P.R. campaigns.

  20. 270 xoxoyc Apr 18th, 2007 at 8:30 pm

I’m really upset that they are giving the man behind these heinous acts so much screen time. He is being glorified and sensationalized for mass murdering 32 people. It’s disgusting.

    Those poor families…

  21. 271 Kat Apr 18th, 2007 at 8:35 pm

I know when Elvis first came out, the singles weren’t even on the full-length records. Imagine how weird that would be now?

Some indie artists still take this tack and release non-album singles to outlets like iTunes. I think it’s awesome.

  22. 272 sexygirl Apr 18th, 2007 at 8:41 pm

Kat, Nigel said in the interview that the “picker” is safe.

Wow, Nigel is devulging surprising info..Wait a minute, the picker never went home in the past. Is this suppose to be shocking news. I’ll be more shocked if Sanjaya is sent home tonight.. Still can’t figure out why he should go and Chris stay..But that’s just me.

What!! No one actually felt that all the other idol contestants were going to have there cds certified and Kat wasn’t..Come on, this is Kat were talking about.

Okay that’s it for my Kat mention for the rest of this month..LOL

  23. 273 sexygirl Apr 18th, 2007 at 8:44 pm

It was clear this guy planned everything he was doing from beginning to end. Sadly, we are now left second guessing after such tragedy..

  24. 274 radname Apr 18th, 2007 at 10:05 pm

    Proof there is a God.

  25. 275 gabam Apr 18th, 2007 at 10:06 pm

Bucky was in the audience tonight at American Idol. Too bad that Ryan did not stop and talk with him or at least mention that his CD was released today. He walked right past him. TPTB probably did not allow him to do it.

  26. 276 taywatch Apr 18th, 2007 at 10:11 pm

Can you tell who got ousted tonight or is that not permitted?

  27. 277 longsong Apr 18th, 2007 at 10:14 pm

No worries, tay - it’s on the front page. Spill away!

  28. 278 WhatdIsay Apr 18th, 2007 at 10:23 pm

So isn’t this proof positive that VFTW has little or NO effect what-so-ever?!?!

If you don’t agree, then do you think Taylor would have won without thier support?

Personally, I don’t think they matter, not even a little bit….

  30. 280 madaboutu Apr 18th, 2007 at 11:15 pm

Nostradamus……….long time no see. I think Taylor would have won without VFTW. Dave(from VFTW) said, on Letterman, that he wasn’t sure of their reach, but he thought a couple of million. I personally don’t think its that big, and I think Sterns listerners probably tired of the game right away.

  31. 281 sexygirl Apr 18th, 2007 at 11:38 pm

I never felt VFTW really mattered one way or another. They notoriety just made for good conversation. In the end, American will vote. Maybe their existance benefited AI more than meets thee eye..

Bye bye Sanjaya…AI will miss you..

I seriously wonder how far Jordin will go before the judges turn on her?

  32. 282 Tony Apr 18th, 2007 at 11:44 pm

I’m officially done with this season. Sanjaya was the only “talented” person in his own right in that he sucked so bad that he made it interesting to watch.

Congrats on win in May, Melinda (which, of course, will be by a huge marhin).

  33. 283 Paula Apr 18th, 2007 at 11:45 pm

Jordin is more marketable than the other two divas. I think she has a chance of being one of the top 2.

  34. 284 maracaibo Apr 18th, 2007 at 11:49 pm

I still think Blake will have a shot at the finale. HE will be Top 2 with either Melinda or JOrdin.

I think he will make a big comeback next week. GO Team Plaid.

  35. 285 cheese Apr 19th, 2007 at 12:04 am

Awww, my 9 yr. old shed a few tears over Sanjaya tonight. I think I promised to take her to the tour and buy her a Sanjaya shirt from VFTW. They’ll go on sale, right?

I can officially join Team Indifference now, yay!

  36. 286 WVFan Apr 19th, 2007 at 12:04 am

Martina McBride is a wonderful singer. Ive never heard her hit a bad note when singing live. I saw Cowboy Troy and Rich from Big and Rich in the audience front row after Martina sang. The camera really didn’t showcase them like they did Constantine last night. Maybe they didn’t know who they were since they are Country singers lol. I felt sorry for Sanjaya tonight. I think he thought he had a chance at winning it. Simon grinning like a cheshire cat didn’t help. He is sooo insensitive, sigh.

  37. 287 lila Apr 19th, 2007 at 2:41 am

Gray, if you are around and reading this, it was good to see you again. I thought I had moved on but no, I really haven’t. :(

Thank you for stepping in to dispel that record label rumor.

It was nice of you to suggest for us to donate to MJ. It was very cool of you.

So the dolphins have left earth and I am sad but trying to keep smiling. Hope we’ll all meet again someday:
