Have a great time at the Viper room, squishy!

  2. 502 dante Jan 10th, 2007 at 10:12 pm

I like mohitos - I had one for the first time at a Cuban restaurant in NYC (first time there- loved it) on Mother’s Day. Actually I had two as I loved the mint leaves in it.

  3. 503 sammy Jan 10th, 2007 at 10:16 pm

Craif Ferguson on Timberlake & Taylor … tooo funny.

    http://www.cbs.com/latenight/latelate/comedy/monologue/video/20060921.shtml

Love Craig Ferguson. BTW Daughtry is on his show tonight.

  4. 504 Kat Jan 10th, 2007 at 10:16 pm

Ooooh, I LOVE mojitos. Naturally, the best ones I had were in Granada, Spain. Sadly I am not willing to travel to communist Cuba just to sample the mojitos there. ;-)

  5. 505 B Jan 10th, 2007 at 10:20 pm

Dante, do you by any chance know the name of the restaurant?? I live in New York and LOVE cuban food

  6. 506 madaboutu Jan 10th, 2007 at 10:24 pm

KTINTN……Craig is the man who keeps me up nights. :wink1_tb: Sad, I know.

  7. 507 madaboutu Jan 10th, 2007 at 10:28 pm

Ben E. King sang Stand By Me on Letterman last night and it was so beautiful with full orchestra behind it and four backups. Kind of like this…strings were awesome.

    Dante,
I didn’t know that you lived in/near NY! Was it Victor’s Cafe 52? Hi B (mutual fan of the chocolate souffle at Knickerbockers).

I did a little backsearching on the Idol winners’ album sales, and here’s how they stack up at their fourth week. Here are how many they sold during their fourth week, and total sales are in parenthesis (asterisks denote rounded numbers):

    #1 Carrie/Some Hearts: 271,245 (946,665)
    #2 Fantasia/Free Yourself: 106,613 (509,864)
    #3 Kelly/Thankful: 93,000* (623,000*)
    #4 Ruben/Soulful: 88,000* (960,500*)
    #5 Taylor/Taylor Hicks: 18,900* (558,519**)

And unless Taylor surpasses 641,171 next week (Fantasia’s total sales to date during her 5th week) with roughly 82,652, he’ll be the lowest selling Idol….that is of course if his sales don’t pick up in the future or something.

I just visited AllAccess (affiliated with Mediabase and contains a lot of radio news).

They have a big add on the front page for Kat. It’s the picture of her that they had on the cover of “Shape” (red bathing suit/wrap) and states:

“Katharine McPhee “Over It” Impacting Top 40 NOW” sponsored by RCA.

The same add is on the Top 40 page.

Looks like RCA is going to try to do a good job of pushing “Over It” for radio. Congrats to Kat.

    Squishy,
I’m so jealous that you’re going to see DAUGHTRY tomorrow night at the Viper Room. But, my anniversary has to come first. :) Tell Chris and the guys “hey” for me. :wink_wp:

    Hi CarieB!

    I definitely will!

Did you check out the napster interviews and the acoustic versions of Breakdown, INO, Home, and Sunday Blood Sunday?

  14. 514 CarieB Jan 10th, 2007 at 11:08 pm

Nope. You’re so much more “dialed in” than I am. I have been having to travel and work WAY TOO MUCH lately. I have to miss the premiere next week for an east coast business trip. Thank God for Tivo (TGFT)!

  15. 515 dante Jan 10th, 2007 at 11:11 pm

    B -
    Lower East Side
***Cafe Habana World’s best corn on the cob, Cuban sandwiches (if the wait is too long you can get the same food for takeout next door)
17 Prince St., New York, NY 10012
    at Elizabeth St.

This was where I had my first (and second) mohito!

Hope you can get there sometime - it was great food and not too expensive.

  16. 516 B Jan 10th, 2007 at 11:12 pm

Dante, I’ll be sure to check it out sometime. Great food that isn’t too overpriced is hard to come by in New York.

  17. 517 dante Jan 10th, 2007 at 11:14 pm

    Debs -

I live in suburb of Kansas City, but my son went to law school at NYU so I was in NYC for his graduation. I had never been there before and loved it! Sadly didn’t make it to a Broadway show.

  18. 518 madaboutu Jan 10th, 2007 at 11:17 pm

Tony………I guess I will have to committ hari-kari if Taylor becomes the lowest selling Idol at the 5th week. Either that or I can finally just start appreciating him as an artist and forget about the sales. I think if it weren’t for the internet I would be doing that anyway. :sealed_tb:

  19. 519 dante Jan 10th, 2007 at 11:25 pm

    B -

These are some other places we went

    East Village
    Veselka Ukranian food
    144 2nd Ave

    Midtown
***Blarney Stone Restaurant – Irish pub with mom’s favorite corned beef sandwiches
    106 W 32nd St

Here’s a few more places we went that I really liked.

We went to an Indian place too that was really good but I don’t see it on my list now.

And even if he is, how does that fit into the big musical scheme of things for Taylor and his future?

  21. 521 bruno Jan 10th, 2007 at 11:27 pm

does anyone know of a good hotel on long island near westbury? i would like to book the hotel now for the trip there to see taylor in april but have no idea where to stay.

    thanks.

  22. 522 bruno Jan 10th, 2007 at 11:29 pm

i haven’t been checking the blog like i used to. anyone know if rolling stone reviewed taylor’s cd and if yes, how was the review?

  23. 523 griz Jan 10th, 2007 at 11:32 pm

bruno - RS has not reviewed the CD to my knowledge - they’re a little behind sometimes, so it still might be coming.

  24. 524 B Jan 10th, 2007 at 11:35 pm

Dante, thanks for the tips! I haven’t eaten at either of those places, I’ll definitely have to try them sometime!

  25. 525 dante Jan 10th, 2007 at 11:38 pm

    Hi bruno -

It is better you have not been here as it has not been a happy time for us Taylor fans. Except for the day we had astrology readings - that was fun!

If you ever go to Gray’s, there is a good post about Taylor and comments from him. I feel pretty good now as he seems happy!

  26. 526 hicksmayer Jan 10th, 2007 at 11:39 pm

Really? Wow, I didn’t know this. That single can’t come soon enough. Just saying. I really don’ want that reputation for Taylor, especailly with a great album like the one he just released. So unfair.

  27. 527 Linny Jan 10th, 2007 at 11:43 pm

Bruno - the very best hotel is the Garden City Hotel. Very very posh and expensive. Maybe Taylor will be staying there ;-)

There is a Marriott right next to the Nassau Coliseum. Trying to think of any other nice places near Westbury…Will let you know.

  28. 528 griz Jan 10th, 2007 at 11:49 pm

Check out this AI video - there’s a guy there who says 3 times that’s he’s ‘not as cool as Taylor Hicks’….. it’s funny!

  30. 530 Carla D Jan 11th, 2007 at 12:25 am

Squishy - Thanks for the Daughtry numbers! I’m pumped that the video is FINALLY ready - it’s been a long, frustrating wait for all Chris fans! :wallbash_tb:

I too am anxious to see how the video will effect sales. It’s true that VH1 and MTV don’t feature videos like they have in the past (although FUSE is gaining in popularity), but videos have a greater impact outside of television these days. Videos are played constantly at department stores and lately even in restaurants, bars, etc. Heck, I went bowling over the weekend and videos were playing non-stop on a big screen at the bowling alley! Also, music videos are now prominent on the internet and can even be downloaded from itunes, etc.

I really love the new U2 video. As much as I love Daughtry, the INO video is gonna have to really rock to knock U2 off as my current personal favorite video. :cool1_tb:

  31. 531 squishy Jan 11th, 2007 at 12:28 am

    CarlaD,

Videos are definitely NOT played on MTV/VH-1 as they used to but I do agree there are many other avenues for videos now a days.

Also, a hot video can impact radio play. A hot video often increases spins of the song on the radio.

  32. 532 B Jan 11th, 2007 at 12:28 am

Youtube has also become very big in temrs of music videos…i can’t even remember what the internet was like before youtube anymore…

  33. 533 Carla D Jan 11th, 2007 at 12:47 am

My daughter and I play the videos from Yahoo on a daily basis. We have our favorites saved and play them in the evening while I’m cooking dinner. My daughter has been looking for Daughtry’s video EVERY single day now for the past month just to see if it’s been released yet, even though I tell her it hasn’t been. I’m not telling her the good news - I want to see the total look of surprise followed by her scream of joy when it shows up. I’m certain it will be pretty similar to her over-the-top reaction when Carrie’s latest video showed up. :jittery_tb:

  34. 534 Carla D Jan 11th, 2007 at 2:34 am

Daughtry ROCKED tonight on Craig Ferguson. A perfect ending to an almost perfect day for me. Good night all! :bye_tb:

Yes , my last post ,ya guys seem nice….I hope Taylors cd comes out soon and I really will still listen to hima as an artist no matter what happens but people will always analize it to death.(of course cd of others will do better that are more pop generies, not his music, got screwed, journeyman, yada)…….How about compare two that fit inthe pop mainstreme instead of apples and oranges…Katherine mcphee (who is not my style) W/ her promation her cd I predict will pass chris cd in sales in be in the 350,000 range………I guess I think it is ok to like artists and be a fan but the idol to idol comaprison is like thier is this idol world they are trapped in even though the show is over?………Some are even opposite styles of singing ?(mainstreme pop or tottally out of the mainstreme) I just find it funny and it will continue for years w/ others………..Like .the contestant you can not break out of the idol world ……………….Sad really…….Except for Jennifer Hudson hers oscor nomineee……way to go girl
