For anyone that likes Blake, here’s an interview he did with a TV station in Seattle.

    http://q13.trb.com/

It should be on the front page of that site.

Where is Taylor’s crack marketing team?? AI can turn distasteful photographs into a plus for a “family ” show but Taylor’s PR people can’t keep this negative headline out of the news. Something stinks to me

I don’t think the article was negative. It’s what it is. The cd is not selling. I don’t think it has to do with his image. I still feel the downfall of this cd is it’s throwback sound and less the fact that is has a pop flavor to it. IMO, the article puts things into prespective. I just saw his ranking on BB charts and that also could be the reason for the article. It all depends on the headlines but it sounds as if it was put out by his people to cushion the fall of his cd and to put more emphasis on his tour. At least that is what is reads like to me. He is going to have to deal with the cd stuff sooner or later. So, his people might as well jump on it now. As I’ve said before, as long as Clive and his people believe in him, he’ll be fine..

Taylor and his team need to hone in more to a more radio-friendly r&b vibe on the next album - one that will be played on HAC and Top 40 - sorta like John Mayer, who seems to find just the right blend of soul, r&b and pop friendly songs. I think his current album, while having some excellent pop tunes on it, just didn’t catch a ‘current’ vibe which I think is the problem the album and songs from it are having.

Well, you are know that’s what I’ve been saying for the longest. Taylor next cd should be more along the lines of John Mayer’s. What I’m hoping is that he can break out of the AI “old school” image and his people can work on giving him a different sound and image. I know he likes old school music but he needs to save that for the stage or when he has enough cds under his belt where he can put out another old school cd. Until then, Taylor really needs to concentrate on find a sytle of music that the cd buying public can latch on too..

G’nite everyone… Talk to y’all on Sunday when I return.

  5. 305 terry Feb 28th, 2007 at 11:24 pm

Sexy, It was the headline that I thought was so negative. Is it naive of me to think that they can control the headlines ??? As you said, the article itself while not negative, was defensive in tone. I would have liked to have read a proactive plan on how Taylor’s music would be marketed. We already know that he does not easily fall into a pop genre. ,,,he doesn’t fit so shrug shoulders,,,,,too sad. So do they have any more creative plans than allowing Taylor to tour?

  6. 306 Desdemona Feb 28th, 2007 at 11:46 pm

I think Taylor should be on the next season of “Dancing with the Stars”. Just imagine what he would do to those ratings, which are already good! And it would give us a chance to see him on TV every week again! Bet he’d be the last one standing again!

Plus it’s on another network - ABC - mud in yer eye, Fox!)

  7. 307 Desdemona Feb 28th, 2007 at 11:50 pm

emeralgem, I missed getting to tell you to enjoy the wedding and the weekend. Hope your foot and knee are better soon.

  8. 308 Desdemona Feb 28th, 2007 at 11:52 pm

    terry,

I hate clicking on the news/blog alerts in my email right now with that latest story. Have already had almost a dozen different ones - same story of course - some variance on the headline.

Oh yes, I’d love to see Taylor on DWTS so that the media and Idol can get in even MORE jokes about Taylor being a washed-up hack. Ick. No thanks. Me, I’m looking forward to the day I can see him in a smoky, tiny little joint like the Bamboo Room, where I can sip cocktails and sit at a tiny table and take it all in.

  10. 310 madaboutu Mar 1st, 2007 at 12:03 am

……….oh great, Taylor is on a cross country tour and people have him in back in tiny little smoke filled rooms again. How depressing.

  11. 311 Desdemona Mar 1st, 2007 at 12:06 am

LOL! Now, now, they’re not all washed-up hacks - they always have some current young ones on it for sex appeal.

I hate to think of him in a smoky, tiny little joint again! :)

  12. 312 amys Mar 1st, 2007 at 12:08 am

I don’t know there the “blame” lies on Taylor’s CD sales. It’s not a bad album. I’ve given it to several people who had no prior opinion of Taylor and they have said they find themselves putting it on in the car rather than the radio or other CDs.
    Perhaps it doesn’t have a current edge to it… i don’t know.
However, I really do believe a lot of the blame lies in the lack of promotion. No single until two months after the CD is out, and then really limited airplay. No video. No talk of it (unless it’s negative) on AI. nothing.
Sure, when it first came out, Taylor had the round of talk shows/morning shows, but quite frankly, unless you are lucky enough to be home at 9:30 or 11:00 in the morning, you missed it. Since then? Nothing….
I just don’t get it. He is not promoted at all. It doesn’t change my opinion of Taylor or his CD. I love him. I like the CD. I just wish when the press points out his low sales they’d point out all these issues as well.
    Just sayin….

That’s not gonna happen, mad. :)

  14. 314 Little Boy Blue Mar 1st, 2007 at 12:09 am

    Nevada,

And because I can’t resist those numbers, this is what Daniel Powter earned from digital sales for “Bad Day”:

    2,015,594 x $0.0405 = $ 81,631.56

That is, of course, before deducting management fees, agent fees, business manager fees, attorney fees, production costs, promotional costs, and associated expenses.

If you are right, then here is what Daughtry gets as an estimate :

    85000 records sold (for a good week) x 12.00 avg sales price = $1,020,000

    Daughtry’s profit (8% ) = $81,600 ( I am estimating he gets 8% for every CD sale. Probably a very generous assumption ).

    —————————-

Here is what is estimated to be what Taylor gets for his 1 week concert :

    17000 concert tickets x average price $35 =$595,000
    Average net per ticket $5 = $85,000
plus average $5 merchandise per ticket = $85,000

Taylor’s total touring revenue last week: $170,000

Here is an article for you to consider :

    www.arabia.msn.com/Entertainment/MusicTopMoneymakers/

    In part the article reads:

As in past years, music’s biggest stars make most of their money when they’re on stage, not in a recording studio. Much of that has to do with the strange economic incentive system in the music business–acts keep most of the money made on tour, while record labels keep most of any money made from record music sales.

“Conventional media tends to still look at album sales as a true barometer of what’s popular and what’s not, but it’s not really all that indicative of who’s selling concert tickets, and the artists know that it’s also not indicative of who’s making the most money,” says Pollstar editor Gary Bongiovanni.

Case in point: Barbra Streisand, who landed fifth on our list despite album sales that totaled less than $4 million.

To put that into perspective, the showbiz legend can generate more than that with just one concert. With an average concert ticket priced at nearly $300, Streisand’s 20 U.S. shows garnered $92.5 million at the box office last year.”

One poster at the official Idol boards states thusly :

    —————————

Also remember, Daughtry is a band and profits must be split, but I imagine Chris gets the Lion’s share just the same, and yes he does get songwriting royalties as well probably another 1%.

I may have underestimated Taylor’s take, hearing the discussion about the Orlando venue being 20,000 for one night alone (I had figured 17,000 total for all 5 shows last week. In this case it is possible that they payed Taylor a flat fee. His flat fee I have heard is $100,000 ).

    ————————–

Suffice it to say that you can understand why Taylor’s management is emphasizing TOURING at this point in time.

  15. 315 Kat Mar 1st, 2007 at 12:11 am

……….oh great, Taylor is on a cross country tour and people have him in back in tiny little smoke filled rooms again. How depressing.

He can’t tour tiny smoke-filled rooms on his national tour? Y’know, kind of like he did with LiMBO after AI shows?

That’s the kind of musical setting that I prefer. I think it’s far more intimate than playing a hockey arena. Should Taylor ever reach enough fame and fortune to be able to PLAY hockey arenas, I’ll be thrilled, but it’s still not the setting I’d prefer to see him in.

  16. 316 Whomp Mar 1st, 2007 at 12:14 am

Desdemona-Why wait until next season? Taylor could certainly perform live (Singing) on DWTS if it is not against his contract. People would love it! Wonder if it is possible even with the tour…

  17. 317 Kat Mar 1st, 2007 at 12:16 am

Now see, to me, the DWTS talk is the depressing talk here. Why feed more into the stereotype that Taylor is nothing more than a gimmicky dancing monkey who people will tune in to see for the novelty factor, but don’t respect as a real artist?

  18. 318 madaboutu Mar 1st, 2007 at 12:18 am

Kat……yes, I get what you mean. And I would like to have the $150,000 to hire him and his band for a private party……..and pick the songs. The press really get to me though sometimes.

  19. 319 Desdemona Mar 1st, 2007 at 12:18 am

I don’t know, Whomp - this season starts around the middle of March, doesn’t it? I’m not sure which nights (Mondays & Tuesdays?) They do always have a live performance on their results night. :)

  20. 320 Whomp Mar 1st, 2007 at 12:22 am

Was good enough for Rod Stewart and Lionel Richie. They usually have some guest performance (on results night) if I recall, correctly, either a group of dancers or a singer. They even had the Pussycat Dolls (yuck) but probably considered hip?

  21. 321 madaboutu Mar 1st, 2007 at 12:26 am

Whomp……..you are right, they have had alot of top stars on DWTS, and have you seen that vid of last years dancers to Give Me Tonite? It would be a great song. There is no way he could fit it in though.

  22. 322 Desdemona Mar 1st, 2007 at 12:28 am

Jerry Springer was the novelty ‘celebrity’ who actually couldn’t dance, as was George Hamilton! The football players (Jerry Rice and Emmitt Smith) gained a lot of respect and added a lot to the show.

I know - maybe they could teach *** how to dance! She’d love the skimpy costumes. LOL

Here is PEOPLE’s MAGAZINE’s PHOTO of Taylor at the Mobile CONCERT :

  24. 324 madaboutu Mar 1st, 2007 at 12:32 am

Well, I did it. I said I would watch both the boys and girls on AI this week for the first time, and I did. Don’t care about the boys at all but of the girls, I like Melinda the best, and Lakisha next. Honestly tho, there is not enough variety this year.

  25. 325 Whomp Mar 1st, 2007 at 12:32 am

He could perhaps late May! Sweeps! I will have to check out the vid of GMT. Looks like they are doing 2 weeks of dancing (2hrs) on Mondays then Voting starts in April in House’s time slot…Why wont anyone go up against AI…irks me. Reminds me of a quote from grade school “Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” Gawd I wish Taylor would catch a shooting star–just high enough to get going strong.

  26. 326 Desdemona Mar 1st, 2007 at 12:32 am

Thanks for the People link, LLB! Always like to see him pictured in People. :)

  27. 327 amys Mar 1st, 2007 at 12:34 am

The people at PEOPLE magazine seem to like Taylor. They consistently portray him positively.

  28. 328 Desdemona Mar 1st, 2007 at 12:35 am

Melinda was fantastic tonight! I was so excited that the judges raved about her performance tonight! Lakisha’s was really good, but for some reason I think I liked Paris’ version much better!

Anyway, don’t know how the West Coast will affect Dial Idol, but if nothing changes, it looks like Lakisha, Melinda and Antonella will sail through again.

  29. 329 Whomp Mar 1st, 2007 at 12:36 am

I’m not watching AI at ALL. Took it off the TIVO. DH nearly had a stroke until he figured out I planned on listening to each and every cellcert I could HA! I get nauseous even thinking about those men and what they are knowingly doing to Taylor. It is repugnant. So I have no use or time for them and their money making agendas.

  30. 330 Desdemona Mar 1st, 2007 at 12:42 am

I’m not voting, Whomp, but am watching it and enjoy some of the performances - I have liked Melinda’s voice since her audition, even though now I can’t remember what she sang - just that she does have a beautiful voice; there were so very few in the auditions that we got to see who could actually sing, so I did remember she was one of the good ones. :)

  31. 331 cricket Mar 1st, 2007 at 12:43 am

Melinda was in a class by herself tonight IMO. Antonella was a joke and Alaina was baaaaad , they should go NOW.

  32. 332 Desdemona Mar 1st, 2007 at 12:50 am

Antonella was HORRIBLE! She won’t be leaving though. VFTW will keep her alive for a while. It looks like Haley and Leslie have the lowest totals at dial idol, but maybe West Coast will move some around with their votes.

  33. 333 Whomp Mar 1st, 2007 at 12:50 am

Well I have peeked a little at Rickeys but really not much. I only know a few names.Lakisha’s pic looks like she is in drag with that hairdo from tonight. The only listen I gave to Mustang Sally because I like the song not the singer from what I have read. I just do not want to give AI the ratings so they can sell 49,000 more commercials! It’s a pity we just can’t have decent entertainment on TV very much anymore. I am totally over Lost but sat through it with DH while listening to the cellcert from Columbus GA and following the PBP.

  34. 334 Desdemona Mar 1st, 2007 at 12:50 am

    Nite - I’m gone now.

  35. 335 amys Mar 1st, 2007 at 12:52 am

    night everyone

  36. 336 WVIdolFan Mar 1st, 2007 at 12:56 am

I thought Melinda was best too. I hate that song Funny Valentine, but she made me almost like it. I like Paris’ version of Midnight Train to Ga better too but Lakisha did good. I still like Sabrina, I think thats her name, that sang last a lot and Jordin was impressive.

  37. 337 madaboutu Mar 1st, 2007 at 12:56 am

Whomp………I had not watched AI at all, then decided I would watch at least one week to know who everyone was talking about, but found it really doesn’t bother me to NOT watch. It might be like season one for me…….finale only.

  38. 338 Lisa Mar 1st, 2007 at 1:01 am

Wooooo! Homegirl kicked some major bootay tonight. LOVED Melinda!!!!!! Wonder if I should admit to screaming now? Hmmmm na, might blow my conservative cover.

  39. 339 monajoy Mar 1st, 2007 at 2:35 am

If Taylor is the worst idol yet, why are you all still talking about him? I bet you guys couldn’t go 30 minutes without saying anything (negative or positive) about him.

Face it, he broke the mold. AI is not the same now that he’s gone. Down hill from here. There will never be another SINGER/ENTERTAINER like Taylor again on this show.

    That’s a fact Jack!

  40. 340 dave Mar 1st, 2007 at 3:12 am

monajoy- I feel the pain. Who are you directing your post towards? Just curious.

  41. 341 purplesmile Mar 1st, 2007 at 3:25 am

Elliott is reportedly (from I-Squad) scheduled to appear on “Live! with Regis & Kelly” on March 20th. :)

  42. 342 terry Mar 1st, 2007 at 3:33 am

monajoy was directing her comment to me :) and it is word !
    You go Elliott !!!

  43. 343 Cathy Mar 1st, 2007 at 7:37 am

Little Boy Blue, those numbers are interesting, but Taylor didn’t sell anywhere close to 17,000 tickets to his concerts last week. The Orlando concert was included with park admission and the majority of the people there had been at the park all day.

  44. 344 Little Boy Blue Mar 1st, 2007 at 9:34 am

Taylor didn’t sell anywhere close to 17,000 tickets to his concerts last week

I took that into account. That’s why I said he was probably paid a flat fee of $100,000 ( that’s his going rate as per estimates ).
