I could see Melindas boot coming last night. Simon set her up with the praise and that awakened the fan bases of Jordin and Blake. Very clever. Simon’s words are very calculating and he plays the audience like a fiddle. I saw it coming and by Melindas calm acceptance I have a feeling she saw it too. What a classy lady and I hope she hits it BIG. She was the cream of the crop. Now I say “GO BLAKE”.
By the way … I thought that Simon seemed drunk last night ( and hung over tonight) and he was downright creepy the way he couldn’t keep his hands off Paula (EEK). :annoyed_tb:

Melinda should be there still but apparently her fans didn’t vote enough. I’ve heard it works that way.

Of course you’re right. I only voted… well, I stopped counting after 125, but it wasn’t as strenuously as I voted for Taylor last year. Still, you know, a lot of peeps only vote once. I don’t believe the vote is rigged, but I do believe they do everything else they can get away with - to manipulate everything.

I still say they undersold Melinda all season, showed bad camera angles, cut her mic, pimped Jordin to a ridiculous and extreme degree. Now, it almost seems like there’s a little bit of buyers remorse (suck it Nigel!)- if Nigel’s comments can be interpreted as defensive - but Blake is the only one left who I think has even a modicum of “it”.

They got rid of all the really good singers in the Hollywood round and put through weaker and less experienced singers. Then they pimped the weaker singers and voted off the stronger ones.

Well, there some good singers in the finals, but they cut Tami Gosnell and a few others that were clearly better than some of the 24 they chose. It seems they’re looking for someone who fits the formula so they don’t have to figure out how to market a non-mainstream artist. I think they’re whacked if they think Jordin’s going to be it.

cricket…………I think the judges and Ryan are all getting a little weird. Too many years of it I guess. Simon said on some TV show interview that he spends most of his time bugging Paula, and whispering nonsense in her ear.

Some of the ones I thought would go far had a hard time in the competition so went home too early (Brandon, Sundance, Chris S, etc). I also liked that jazzy girl with the leggings.

I repeat that there’s no way they want Blake to win. Melinda got her fair share of pimping early on but at some point they switched to Jordin. I still say that’s the curly haired one that Randy was talking about.

So very, very happy for Blake. And love his parents. :)

A guy who is labeled as very entertaining by the judges is not the strongest singer and a girl who is very strong in the power ballad arena but is lacking everywhere else. Unlike last year, it appears that TPTB don’t seem to mind the fact that the guy relies on his creative skills and less on his vocals because his vocals are very generic. Which means easy to market. Wow, being an entertainer is a good thing this year..

Actually, Blake was considered a dark horse from the beginning by TPTB. This is not some grand scheme that we’re supposed to buy into. I actually think they thought Brandon would do better than he did. I wish he had, because he does have an amazing voice.

As for generic vocals, that’s an opinion. I don’t see Blake’s vocals as generic at all. Yes, he’s an “entertainer” but I love his voice and I love the fact that he’s a musician and not just a singer.

    Me too, PJ. :smile1_tb:

I actually don’t care who they want. I vote on who I like, not some reaction to TPTB. :)

And I certainly would never caste a vote as a reaction to a previous year. I look at the contestants as individuals.

Simon acts like a kid I remember in jr high who was always goosing the girls . He thought that it was cute but after he recieved a few punches in the nose and a kick in the nads he thought better of it. I think Paula should kick him in the nads ( if he has any).

Since I don’t deal in such things, I will just say my comments is more based on observation than some kind of conspiracy theory.

What is the definition of generic? Blake and Chris D have that in common with their vocals. Their vocals sometimes take on the texture and tone of the singer whose song they are singing. It’s like you’re listening to the actual artist when they sing.

I thought he mentioned the sex also?

I think the final 2 were the ones AI wanted in the end. Did you notice not one of the judges appeared upset that Melinda got the boot, although all said she was the most consistent and praised her over and over? I don’t think she was as marketable because she seems older, and she probably wouldnt be led around the nose as easily as Jordin. I dont think Blade will cave easily either. I didnt get the Simon sour face when he doesnt get his way when Melinda’s name was called either. If he was using reverse psychology on all of us, he will brag about it endlessly all summer.

Well, carp. You could probably try to use that argument about any of them. We all have our biases when it comes to music and the type of sound we like. Is Blake’s “texture and tone” any less predictable than Jordin or Melinda’s? I think not.

I actually think Blake stands out in that area.

Nope. Just curly hair. That could have been many this season.

Since I’m basically finished watching Season 6 (except for Daughtry’s appearance next week), I’ll post something current re: Season 5 idols:

Elliott has moved from #87 on Amazon to #18 in just the few hours following his performance. WOW!

Mandisa has updated her blog re: tonight’s elimination of Melinda (I posted her thoughts in the Season 6 Results chat thread). Her album will be released on 5/22 and her single “Only the World” can be heard at www.myspace.com/mandisa. I can see her doing very well in the contemporary christian music genre. She will be appearing on the CBS Early Show on June 2 and her book “Idol Eyes” will be available sometime in June.

Lisa Tucker should find out tomorrow whether the pilot for the show “Born in the USA” will be picked up by Fox.

In response to the conservative beliefs, I just think that even though Melinda has the same beliefs (and btw so do I) she’s a bit older and might have been able to hold her own. Jordin is still young and might succumb more easily to the pressure to do things she doesn’t actually want to do. I know she’s 17 now, but when does she turn 18?

It’s so weird because even though I know it’s probably better that Melinda didn’t win, I still wanted it for her. She deserved it, and she deserved to be respected for her gift and commitment by the American public.

I guess I’ll vote for Blake now. Melinda was the rare female contestant that I liked.
