Sadly, most of these jubilant golden-ticket holders will end up like Ashanti Johnson, who had been there twice without been shown on TV, until that Day-time Emmy worthy begging effort. They probably won’t even have a moment like that….

I said this on another thread but we have seen 4 contestants that I know of here in the UK that haven’t been shown in the US, and all 4 were fantastic. It seems strange they got the exposure here where we can’t vote because all of them were great. The UK board for idol have them pegged as favourites. I thought they showed Tom Lowe here because he is a brit but the others have been americans. We have seen

Tome Lowe and Salimah Pryat from St Paul, an optician can’t remember what she sang, good voice but one of those embelishers (Minneapolis auditions)
Louis something, a 19 yo from Philly, tennis coach, good looking, good voice, can’t remember what he sang (NY audition)
Elizabeth Huett 19ish, hairdresser with fab voice, sang Georgia (LA audtition) I think she might be the third row middle of screen shots, it is a bit small to tell. She had short dark hair

I don’t think you have Alaina (the girl who said this was her last chance) above though you may have it somewhere else. I was wondering why Simon voted her through but after seeing a photo of her I can understand. In addition to her obvious good looks, she has that poise that I have only seen in one other contestant and that is Kelly Clarkson. Alaina, looked like a winner in that pic.

The fourth row down and first in line from the left of the Birmingham group…she’s holding an idol paper…is Melissa Bender Williams. Melissa is in her 20’s, smart, married, sings beautifully, and has a lovely personality. I taught her history in the 10th grade at Huffman High School. She was a freshman when Ruben Studdard was a Senior. I can’t say how well she’s done, but I do know how proud I am of her. I don’t believe we’ve heard the last of her, either. For now she teaches English, as one of my co-workers, at Huffman High.

Alaina is one of the worst picks I have ever seen. She is this season’s Becky O’Donoghue - cannon fodder for the better contestants and temporary ratings until the public gets used to the better performers, who often are not as attractive but will grow on the viewers in the first couple of weeks.

At that point (or maybe even the first week like Becky), there will no longer be a need for little Alaina, and she will be booted because America wants to see good singer/performers. The people know this is not a beauty pageant, but the judges momentarily forget that at times.
