@ bannanafish. Hah, You are very cynical! While I hate to admit it, you are also very right. Simon has done this same move for the last 2 weeks, and knows exactly what the outcome will be. That is what the
gabfest with the titular head of the show was about. I think he was getting the info on the vote. we all know Simon likes to manipulate ,and he has the perfect forum for it on the X Factor, as he is really the puppetmaster there.!! TV rateings and making money off the novelty act that might make him more than the cost of promoting a possibly 3rd rate singer who does't take and disappears into the ether.WHOoooOOO!

Simon used the excuse of "letting the voters decide" twice in a row to cover the fact that he wanted the inferior singer to stay. Last week he wanted Rachel to go (even though to everybody she was a million times better than Lloyd) because she was too similar to last years winner Alexandra Burke, and LLoyd is real cute and keeps the tweens watching and voting. This week he wanted the twins to stay because despite the fact that he has slammed them in the past he now realizes that their bratty comedy schtick may have more potential than finding a good singer that fades into oblivion in a couple of months. He's probably thinking of managing them as a comedy duo ala Ant and Dec. When he lets it go to the "public vote" he is trying to save face and get his way at the same time.

This Is Me was Lucie's most mediocre and unmemorable performance. After all her spot-on ballads followed by the awesome GnR SCoM (where she sang well, performed all over the stage, and showed some killer hottness), this was a total momentum-killer. so danii was right - it was danii's fault and she let lucie down bigtime.

Ghostbusters was Jedwards best by far, and an excellent song choice for the boys. Singing about ghosts fits their schtick much better than singing about love or sex (eww). You can just picture a music-comedy album from them. Not pop stars but comedy stars that use music in their act.

So based on the 2 performances alone, the right choice was made.

But based on the entire run, honestly I did find it completely shocking. I thought Lucie was destined for the final 2 (or at least final 4). Has there ever been an AI early-elimination (i.e. top 6-12) that was so shocking?
(Maybe Carly, but she made a lot of bad choices IMO & dug her own grave, so wasn't soooo shocking, though I loved her.)

Why is everyone on this thread saying this is Simon's fault? Lucie was the lowest vote-getter, so this is Britain's fault, not Simon's. On AI, Lucie would have lost because she was the lowest vote-getter. On AI ppl complain about The Save, yet when Simon doesn't use the save on XFactor and gives it to Britain, ppl complain that's he's being manipulative? LOL... Make up your mind ppl... Just sayin...

The judges voting is a sham. Each week, 2 judges vote for their own contestants, one votes honestly, and the final one throws it in to deadlock & defers to the public vote. The only time this didn't / couldn't happen was when Louie was absent and only 3 judges could vote, LOL. So this is a just ridiculous rouse - to make the bottom two sing then just defer to the public's vote on the previous nite. Instead, just go by the public's vote w/o this silly charade.

If Jedward was gone, their ratings would decline. People tune in for the car-wreck factor. Enough said.

Jedward & Lloyd remind me of Jasmine Trias & Diane DeGarmo mowing down all the good singers in Season 3 (JHud, LaToya, etc). Each week was a total WTF that season. Thank goodness Fantasia managed to win despite that VFTW tsunami.

(Sorry I wrote so much, but this was just a huge shocker!)

<blockquote>'Remember what the creep said about the coolest moment EVER on tv..</blockquote>

I really don't get the comparisons of Simon's comments between AI and XF. They are completely different shows, in completely different countries.

So I think that was a little off topic. I apologise!
It was a bit of "WHAT" to see Lucie go at this stage. Honestly, I don't find her exciting but she is sweet and sings Just OK for me.
John and Edward are soooo Baaad that they actually come off as
Vaudvalian (sp)? Therefore having a passably entertaining "ACT"!!!
Either that or they have that whole "Vote For The Worst" sensibility in the UK too!!!

Lorenzo, that's so true. ROF was so vocally perfect, even tho' a bit campy.
Can't tell with these singing shows anymore. Just wait until the very last night and expect the unexpected. lol

Difference being that his opinion there was at least legitimate sounding, not just because I agreed with him but because he's allowed to have one as long as it doesn't do bad to anyone.

In the case of X Factor, then yeah it seems pretty unfair. I don't watch this show much but after watching a few of John and Edward's performances, if he really saved them over Lucie who was apparently really good, then yikes. Signs towards a bad future of the music industry are becoming more obvious.

Okay. I haven't watched any video except for the chick who was voted off. I went back to see her performance. I have to say, she reminded me of a slightly better version of Ayla Brown doing "Unwritten." Nasally and not a hella lot of charisma. If the rest of the competition is so terrible that this is a shock boot, then I'm glad I'm not watching the show. Simon looks younger. Botox?

BTW, MJ, one of your ads might be a virus. I got a warning when I clicked on this thread.

At the risk of being run out of here on a rail, I have to say that I wouldn't mind seeing the twins win at all - yes, their singing isn't their strongest point, but it's by no means as bad as a lot of people are saying; also, they're the only act singing while bouncing around the stage as they do, so it's maybe not too surprising that they sometimes go off the note. I expect with a studio recording where they just had to sing they'd sound a lot better. (But they'd just HAVE to release a dvd as well, and I'd buy both like a shot!!)

But the X-Factor isn't just about singing - it's supposed to be about the whole package, including personality and entertainment, and they've got those in spades! I wish I could remember where I've seen clips of Simon saying just that, for all he's banging on about it being a singing competition this time.

And I'd love to know exactly what Simon's up to this time - I absolutely adore him, but there's no denying he's a manipulative b*st*rd and I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him!

At the risk of being run out of here on a rail, I have to say that I wouldn’t mind seeing the twins win at all – yes, their singing isn’t their strongest point, but it’s by no means as bad as a lot of people are saying; also, they’re the only act singing while bouncing around the stage as they do, so it’s maybe not too surprising that they sometimes go off the note. I expect with a studio recording where they just had to sing they’d sound a lot better. (But they’d just HAVE to release a dvd as well, and I’d buy both like a shot!!)

That is just f-up!!!! WTF is wrong with Simon? He doesn't think Lucie could win? Is he serious? She is the best freaking girl left in the competition. I actually wanted her to win. She was getting better and better each work. Simon chose the twins over her. Simon has way tooooooo much power on this show. Well I hope Olly wins now, the rest of them are just meh to me. Olly FTW!!!!!

I've said it before... and I'll say it again... Simon is the luckiest SOB on the face of the earth, he is the WORST talent "Judge" on the face of the Earth and I can point to many times he was clueless, but ya'll will see he keeps on going.. and makes MILLIONS! Crazy... It never ceases to amaze me what that guy does/says... he has zero taste, and is phony as hell.. but somehow he's the "it" man in the "biz"..

That girl was really talented.. what a joke...

That is shocking all right. I thought that she would be in the final two, and perhaps win. But I guess I shouldn't be surprised because Rachel was the best girl, and she went home last week.

Just to get an idea what X-Factor is about, something said in the video here is useful to hear -
http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2009/oct/31/x-factor-pete-waterman

"...(about Simon Cowell's role)...everything he chooses goes on his label, he's part of the theme tune, he gets the theme tune, he owns the acts, he's selecting the act, and he's pretending to be distant from the act when he is in fact part of what will make them money...."

In other words, it is THE Simon Cowell's show. Also note that Simon chose the judges, and he sacks them when he wants to (he sacked Louis Walsh once). He can do whatever he wants in that show. The contestants are just pieces of pawn in his game plan, nothing more. They are there to make money for Simon Cowell, ruthlessly exploited and entirely disposable. You can say it's the same for AI as well, there to make money for the other Simon (Simon Fuller), except that Simon Fuller isn't there to orchestrate the whole thing, and in general, AI is fairer to the contestants than X-Factor. Season 8 however moved closer to the X-Factor way of doing things, and that really pissed me off this season. If Simon gets even more influence over AI next season, then it'll probably be the last season for me - it'll just be another freak show like X-Factor.

I don't know why everyone is blaming Simon. The only people to blame are those that voted for the twins.</blockquote>

I can understand people picking up the phone to vote for Jedward. I couldnt have done it (up until tonigt probably), but there arent any acts who really hypnotize you and show star-potential imo. Everybody is blaming simon because 1) of course Lois is going to save Jedward bc he is their act. so that means the other 3 judges should have backed their constant criticisms they give the twins each week and sent them home. the 2 female judges did- but simon didnt. i bet had simon been asked to send home an act first, he would hhave sent Jedward home and the females judges would have sent them home too. The whole fucking thing was completely 100% scripted. So simon comes off looking like a total Phony.

Since the beginning Simon is telling that the twins can't sing so it's very bad jugment for him to not have taken the opportunity to send them home. He just goes for more controversy instead of sticking to his duty of having integrity as a judge. That's so lame. I wish for him that the twins win now (my devilish side) ---- not true but can't not say it :)

Ok- im officially 100% on the J&E bandwagon. Not because i like them. Not because i even find them mildly entertaining. but because 1) all my favs have pretty much been booted (Lucie) or let me down (Jamie- moreso simon's craptastic song choices for him). and most importantly 2) Simon's contests need a wake-up call. They need to start veering back towards actual TALENT. By J&E winning, it really will make Simon look like a complete and utter ass for saving them tonight. Simon showed his true colors. He deserves what he gets, and hopefully it will prevent him from making the same mistake again.

Oh and if Danyl wins, i might just throw-up all over myself while my ears bleed from having to listen to simon pimp his horrible voice over here in the states.

It is pretty clear that Americans are better at choosing American Idols than Simon is at choosing the winners of the X-Factor. What is his record? Leona Lewis is the only one he's managed to force upon us and she's as dull as dull can be. A walking, talking "Unchained Melody."

OMFG!!!!!!!!

*officially not interested at all anymore*

what an absolute joke. wow. wow wow wow.

the fact that the judges dont have the balls to get rid of those fuckshits is a joke. especially simon. he badmouthed them left and right and called them a joke. and then when push came to shove, he showed his true colors- entertainment over talent. this season's xfactor has completely changed my mind on simon.
ugh. it breaks my heart to see a girl with a great talent who wants a shot a something lose to a couple of untalented brats.

<blockquote>Simon should have voiced his opinion. The night before he said that Lucie was the best female singer so how could he not vote to keep her.</blockquote>

Probably because she threatens the group of guys he's mentoring. This is all about the judges. That's why I don't want this to come to the U.S. It'll be a joke. And yet, maybe it'll just further legitimize AI as the end product will undoubtedly be inferior ... unless Simon can get his stupid little ego further assuage by AI and get more power there too.

<blockquote>The week before (week 3), Danyl was in the bottom 2. Simon is his mentor, so naturally, Danyl had Simon's support and Cheryl was the last to vote because her acts were safe that week.</blockquote>
