Young Hollywood.com has a second video from the Top 10 Idols Press Day last Friday, check it out after the jump.
Could Michael Johns have a record deal in the works? He tells Young Hollywood.com he will be writing and recording his album while on the road and plans to release a single after the tour.
A few other interesting tidbits:
Carly Smithson has heard a few of David Archuleta’s songs and she thinks their great, she’s very excited for his upcoming album. Jason Castro is focused on writing good music. And David Cook’s advice to would be idolers, “Don’t grow a mustache like Michael Johns.
I think this will be the most productive yet of Idol seasons. The one I feel will have the most problems getting anything together is Ramielle. She was my favorite girl going into the top 24 but she dissapointed.
Yay. I do hope Michael has some record deal in the works. I can’t wait for his album.
Anyways, I heard MJ already shaved his mustache, he was just playing around with the media press that day. Thank god! I prefer the clean shaven MJ.
I love how he said he pass on the heartthrob crown to DC. Heh. Those two sure a re hot.
This top 10 group is the best. Love them all. There will definitely be many albums to buy this season.
I think Kristy Lee has a small shot myself because she seems to be what country embraces nowdays. I personally don’t like/get her though. I really didn’t think Kellie would get anywhere and Bucky surprised the heck out of me because although I adore him, I thought it sounded like he had a mouthful of marbles when he was on AI. Though, Kristy Lee doesn’t have a smidgeon of Bucky or Kellie’s personality factor.

Agree. Kellie Pickler has a smidgeon of talent and she’s been able to make a name for herself in the country genre, which is a world unto itself. Personally I think Kristy Lee has more talent than Kelly, and way more than Bucky.
Personality and humor seems to matter a lot in country. Kristy Lee doesn’t have much of either and I think country is getting overloaded with blondes lately.
Michael’s stache was for laughs, it’s already gone. I’ve been following his
career since he exited idol. He has had numerous calls, not only from
music execs., but for acting also. Diane Warren and others have been
co-writing with Michael. He has been working with David Foster and a few producers. Its not known yet if it’s 19, but he definitely has a deal!!!!!!!!!!
Michael’s early boot was a blessing in disguise. He has worked non-stop
and has made the most of his time off by networking and performing at
events. Finally, after 3 collapsed labels he was signed too, I think this
time he has a great chance.
I can see Kristy Lee working in Nashville. There’s room for anyone who has talent and I personally think she’s got it. Maybe because I love country music. I loved her song, “Anyway” on the show. Even if she doesn’t make it in music, she is pretty enough to be in the movies or a model. Whatever she does, she won’t have to sell anymore of her horses if she doesn’t want to.
Well, it’s good news that the mustache is gone. That was horrid. He certainly does have a good sense of humor.
I’m about 0 for 10 as far as picking out the successful AI contestants goes, so I have no idea who is getting deals and who isn’t. As for Michael, I think his somewhat early ouster was indicative of how the AI viewing audience felt about him. He’ll need to create a new fanbase with his music to be really successful. The combination of Diane Warren & David Foster kind of scares me - and it doesn’t really reflect the type of music I thought he wanted to make.
I do hope that JPfan’s prediction of indie deals for Jason & Brooke is correct. That would make me very happy. And, those would probably be the only two I’d buy, other than Cookie.
I could see Kristy Lee doing very well in Country with her looks and I do think she has an interesting personality. She comes across at least from her time on the show and her exit interviews as likeable and friendly. She might not have the Pickler personality but I’m sure few do. I also heard her first album and thought that the songs were good and she records well.
As for the others besides the two David’s I think that Carly due to them needing a rocker female in the stable and her powerful pipes will be signed, Michael Johns is a given, Jason for being so dreamy looking and having a good recording voice and Kristy Lee for the reasons I said above will all be signed. The only one I’m not a entirely sure about is Brooke only due to her personality issues that some might have problems with. I think the thing that she does have going for her is she is a beautiful looking girl who sings folk music and does write music as well.

See, we totally differ on this. I don’t see MJ or Carly doing that well. Carly has a great voice, but no identity. I can’t see a major label taking another chance on her after she tanked the first time and didn’t make it to the top on Idol. As for MJ, male solo artists have a tough time. He came in 8th and would be competing with Cook.
Brooke, on the other hand, has a a vibe that’s marketable right now. Think Colbie Caillat and Sara Bareilles.
Like Spense, I suck at predicting these things, though. I’ll be happy for some Jason and Brooke music to add to my collection. Jason said in a myspace bulletin that he hopes to have a CD out by winter/spring. *crosses fingers*
I respectfully disagree because I think that Michael Johns could fill the Michael Hutchence INXS mold that always seems to be popular. He’s got for him being the older sexy foreigner that has the cockiness that woman love and can still comes across as someone guys would hang out with. I think if he’s smart and makes enough connections he can get some great songwriters and craft a bluesy rock album. If Idol has Chris Daughtry for their Rock Sex Symbol they’re going to need a Bluesy Soul Pop Singer for their other division.
As for Carly’s chances, I honestly don’t think that the identity issue plays into part in the real music world when it comes down to belters. I can see it happening on a show like Idol where you are competing against certain “types” of singers but to me her identity has always been the “power belter” and those usually sell well, Linda Eder and Lara Fabian notwithstanding. Just look at Leona, Mariah, Christina, Amy Lee, and Kelly Clarkson, types and how well those women have down and they are belters who keep changing their image and still are doing well. Using Kelly Clarkson as an example, I remember on Idol her identify was that of a bubbly girl with huge booming pop voice singing the heck out of Natural Woman, Stuff Like That, Surrender, and Without You. After the win and the on Thankful the studio decided to stick her in a sweater and she turned into a young Mariah belting out about Ms. Independent while singing about Just The last one My December, Kelly was a younger depressed goth Amy Lee.
I always wondered if those crafty producers put her in planning on signing her all along and just got her on Idol with no attention of really winning the show but at least build a fan base better the, the 340 that she had before. I always thought that the producers might have wanted from the beginning it would be a boy this year.
However you did win me over with the Brooke comments. I think your right and totally see her looking fantastic in some cute up tempo or even a acoustic ballad with a mix of folk and pop. I think she could hit it big with the right stuff. I could see her and Jason writing a very pretty song my only concern about this is that if she gets into the coffeehouse market too late she might lost with all the others.

Chris Daughtry rock sexy? A short, bald guy with zip charisma and limited personaliy is sexy. That’s downright sad.
Michael Johns is uber ordinary, in his looks and his singing. And he’s a goofy jokester. This ain’t 9th grade — I think his time on American Idol will be his pinnacle.
Carly isn’t a Leona (well, thank God for that), Mariah, Christina, Amy Lee or Kelly Clarkson - not even close . She’s limited vocally and the tats and circus freak husband won’t help her career.
I think DC, Brooke and Jason have much better chances than that group. Of course, I could be wrong.
I’ve been to a couple of Daughtry appearances and it’s clear that quite a few women find him attractive. I’ve always liked his voice and songs although maybe wouldn’t call him sexy. Now Michael’s another story. Winning AI doesn’t automatically mean that you’re going to sell a lot of records but going in 8th as Michael did doesn’t automatically mean he won’t. He’s gotten a lot of press and attention which never hurts so you never know. The only ones from this season that I’m for sure buying their cd will be Michael and David C. I will check out Carly’s.
I want to take them all home with me, even KLC, they are adorable. I have alot of records to buy, I hope.
They are awesome :) I agree with DC about not growing a mustache, Michael!
Thanks MJ. I love seeing these things. That’s great that Carly was all famous in Ireland too.
I think this will be the most productive yet of Idol seasons. The one I feel will have the most problems getting anything together is Ramielle. She was my favorite girl going into the top 24 but she dissapointed.

This top 10 group is the best. Love them all. There will definitely be many albums to buy this season.
I’ll play using my magic 8 ball on future albums:
No chance in hell:
Chiceze, Ramiele, Kristy Lee, Syesha
Maybe lead in already signed band: Carly
Talking like he’s signed but is he?: Johns
Future indies: Brooke, Jason
At the beginning of the Season, Randy predicted 19R signing 5 or 6. I think someone posted one possible additional signing but who will it be?
I’d say this group will fall somewhere between the multiple success of S5 runners up and the lack of success of S6 but where I have no idea.
It is great that everyone got some facetime, and it is not just the ‘David and David’ show, because THAT was wearing thin.
I think Kristy Lee has a small shot myself because she seems to be what country embraces nowdays. I personally don’t like/get her though. It’s frustrating me that I cannot watch any of these recent Top 10 interview videos. Aaarrrgh!

gah. Hate the mustache — looks like a cheesey door-to-door ADT schlub!

I agree with this part !
“Michael’s early boot was a blessing”.

Not sure if any of ya’ll have seen this one. Here’s yet another Top 10 interview, this time with Justin Guarini for TV Guide:

Can’t wait for his huge solo career. I’m so happy for him
