2014 Emmys And VMA Ratings Down vs Last Year

The 2014 Emmy ratings were down vs last year, but that was to be expected. The telecast was scheduled on a Monday for the first time in 38 years. Typically, the event airs in mid-September on a Sunday. NBC’s Sunday Night Football kept the network from broadcasting the Emmys in the same time frame. Additionally, Sunday’s MTV VMAs forced NBC to move the show to Monday.

This year’s Emmys were the second-highest rated since 2006, bested only by last year’s telecast.

Speaking of the VMAs, Sunday’s event garnered a 4.2 rating and 8.25 viewers. It was the top cable program of the night, but down 18 percent from the 10.1 million viewers who tuned in last year.
