The? Country Music Association?has revealed the nominees for The 55th?Annual CMA Awards, with?Eric Church and Chris Stapleton topping the list at five nominations.
Gabby Barrett receives four CMA nods
American Idol 2018 alum Gabby Barrett is up for four awards, including Female Vocalist of the Year, New Artist of the Year, Single of the Year and Song of the Year for “The Good Ones.” This marks her second nomination in both the New Artist and Single of the Year categories and her first nod in the Female Vocalist of the Year and Song of the Year categories.
Jimmie Allen, who competed on American Idol season 10 and will also appear on the upcoming season of Dancing with the Stars, is nominated in the New Artist of the Year category. Also in New Artist of the Year alongside Allen and Barrett is Idol season 7 alum Mickey Guyton.
Kane Brown, also an American Idol alum, is a first-time nominee this year. Brown garners three nominations in three categories: Single of the Year, Musical Event of the Year and Music Video of the Year, all for his “Famous Friends” collaboration with Chris Young.
American Idol season 4 winner Carrie Underwood is represented in only one category, Entertainer of the Year.
Morgan Wallen not snubbed entirely
Oddly, The Voice season 6 alum Morgan Wallen, who is still climbing out from under an N-word scandal, is nominated in Album of the Year for Dangerous: The Double Album. His hit songs are not nominated in the song categories, and as an artist, he’s not represented in Male Vocalist of the Year. The CMAs previously stated after the scandal broke that Wallen would be ineligible for awards this year.
“This year, we have the opportunity to honor the superstars, new artists and emerging creators who are paving the way for Country Music,” says Sarah Trahern, CMA Chief Executive Officer. “These nominees exemplify the creativity, passion and heart that make our Country Music community unlike any other genre. The breadth of voices is evident in this year’s nominations, and we could not be more thrilled to celebrate our deserving nominees in November!”
The 55th Annual CMA Awards broadcast LIVE from Nashville Wednesday, Nov. 10 (8:00 – 11:00 PM/EST) on ABC.
