The GMA Dove Awards which celebrates gospel and worship music, aired on TBN Friday night (Oct 22). The show was filmed in Nashville at Lipscomb University’s Allen Arena. Natalie Grant and Jonathan McReynolds co-hosted the evening.
Carrie Underwood won Inspirational Recorded Song of the Year for her song “Great is Thy Faithfulness” ft Cece Winans. The song is from her 2021 gospel album, My Savior. Additionally, The Voice alum Koryn Hawthorne won in the Contemporary Gospel Album of the Year category for I Am.
Several more competitive reality show singers were nominated, but did not win in their categories.
American Idol judge, Harry Connick Jr. was nominated for Bluegrass/Country/Roots Recorded Song of the Year for “Because He Lives.” And, Carrie Underwood and Harry Connick Jr. were both nominated in the Bluegrass/Country/Roots Album of the Year category for My Savior and Alone With My Faith, respectively. Plus, American Idol’s Tori Kelly’s A Tori Kelly Christmas was nominated in the Christmas/Special Event Album of the Year.
American Idol alum Lauren Daigle didn’t win any awards, but she did perform her Dove-nominated song “Speak to Me” during the event. Lauren was nominated for Artist of the Year, Pop/Contemporary Song of the Year for “Hold On To Me,” Her music video for “Hold on To Me” was nominated for Short Form Video OTY.
While Koryn Hawthorne won in the Contemporary Gospel Album, her song from the album, “Speak to Me” lost in the Contemporary Gospel Recorded Song of the Year category. However, she performed the song on stage.
