Dancing with the Stars contestant Wayne Brady hosts the 2022 American Music Awards airing tonight (Nov 20) on ABC.
Aside from handing out awards, American Idol judge Lionel Richie will receive the Icon Award for his 50 years as an R&B and Pop superstar. Charlie Puth and Stevie Wonder will take the stage to perform a medley of Lionel’s songs. PInk will be on hand to honor the late Olivia Newton-John, Jimmie Allen will introduce his tourmate American Idol season 4 winner Carrie Underwood who will perform her hit single “Crazy Angels” off of her latest album Diamonds & Rhinestones, and more performances.
Plus, American Idol fans will be able to vote for the first time. Viewers can vote for a singer to receive the “Platinum Ticket” which gives a contestant special perks during Hollywood Week.
Wayne Brady kicked off the show with a monologue and a big song and dance number featuring his DWTS partner Witney Carson and guitarist Orianthi. Adam Lambert’s infamous 2009 performance gets a shoutout!
Jimmie Allen started his introduction Carrie Underwood by singing a snip of a song by the late Loretta Lynn. Carrie has won 17 AMAs!
Taylor Swift was the night’s BIG winner, nabbing trophies in general pop and country music categories. She won in six categories. Harry Styles was right behind her with a total of five wins.
