There are oodles of Emmys to give out every year, so many the Television Academy has decided to split the presentation into 3 separate award ceremonies. The 2016 Creative Arts Awards are being presented on two consecutive nights: Saturday, September 10 and Sunday, September 11.
The big night, when all of the major acting and series awards are handed out, is Sunday September 18 on ABC at 7:00PM ET/4:00 PM PT when the 68th Emmy Awards airs live from Los Angeles, California.
Full List 2016 Emmy Nominations
An edited presentation of the Creative Arts Emmy Awards airs on FXX Saturday, September 17 at 8:00PM ET/PT with a rebroadcast at 10:30PM ET/PT.
SUNDAY: It was Ryan Seacrest’s last chance to win Outstanding Host for a Reality Show but it went to RuPaul for RuPaul’s Drag Race instead. At least Jane Lynch didn’t win it again. It’s disappointing in any case.
The Voice won Outstanding Lighting Direction for a Variety Series beating American Idol out for its only Emmy nomination.
Dancing with the Stars nabbed Outstanding Technical Direction,For A Series. But in the Choreography category, it was America’s Best Dance Crew that took the prize rather than So You Think You Can Dance or Dancing with the Stars.
FOX’s Grease Live! took home 4 technical awards while The Wiz Live! took home one.
SATURDAY: American Idol was bestowed with the prestigious Governor’s Award on Saturday night. I was hoping the award would be presented during the big show next Sunday…oh well. If there’s good footage from next Saturday’s broadcast, I’ll post it up here. ETA: American Idol’s Governor’s Award was mentioned on Saturday, but the actual award was handed out on Sunday.
The first night featured mostly technical awards, except for the Guest Actor/Actress categories in Drama and Comedy. Peter Scolari from Girls won for Guest Actor Comedy. Interesting, he replaced Peter MacNicol from Veep who was later deemed ineligible for the category. Big congrats to two of my favs, Amy Poehler and Tina Fey who won Guest actress in a Comedy for their turn as co-guest hosts on Saturday Night Live.
Game of Thrones and The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story won seven and four awards respectively so far.
