ABC Releases Unscripted-Heavy 2023 Fall Schedule (DWTS)

Dancing with the Stars Selma Blair Sasha Farber

When ABC announced that Dancing with the Stars would be moving back to the network from streaming only on Disney+, executives didn’t explain why they reversed a decision they seemed very bullish about when they announced it back in 2022.

Now, looking at ABC’s fall schedule, it’s obvious that the network is using the veteran dance competition as part of a “strike-proof” fall schedule in case the Writers Guild Strike keeps scripted shows off the air. The entire schedule is un-scripted with a smattering of sports and re-runs.

While DWTS is airing live on the network, it will also stream live on Disney+ simultaneously at 8 pm ET. Don’t be surprised if the network moves the show back to streaming only next year.

Timing for previously announced renewals and pickups, including 9-1-1, Abbott Elementary, American Idol, The Bachelor, The Conners, The Good Doctor, Grey’s Anatomy, High Potential, Not Dead Yet, The Rookie, Station 19, and Will Trent will be announced at a later date.
