Adam Lambert joined singer Demi Lovato on stage for to perform Tears for Fears 1983 hit “Mad World” during the Global Citizens Festival in Los Angeles over the weekend.
When Adam performed the Donnie Darko version of the song during his run on American Idol in 2009, the performance went viral and became a competition defining moment. Adam would eventually finish the competition as runner-up, but had had a busy successful career ever since.
One of those career moments for Adam came when he and Disney star, former X Factor judge, and singer Demi guest starred together over several episodes on the 5th season of the FOX musical comedy Glee. Their story arc found the two in New York City performing in a rock band together. Demi portrayed the girlfriend of the character Santana Lopez, played by the late actress, Naya Rivera. The show cast Adam as a budding glam rockstar and problem-solver, Elliot “Starchild” Gilbert.
Michael Andrews and Gary Jules recorded the slowed-down and emotional version of “Mad World” Adam performed on American Idol, and that he and Demi sang on the Global Citizens stage, for the soundtrack of the 2001 film Donnie Darko.
