One year ago Adam Lambert performed a cover of Cher’s “Believe” for the Kennedy Center Honors in Washington DC. The legendary singer, in the audience to receive an award, was moved by Adam’s beautiful rendition.
Now, the American Idol season 8 alum has released a studio version of his cover. The original, which Cher recorded in 1998, is a driving dance track. Adam turns the song into a gorgeous ballad, full of ache and longing.
“It’s been a year since I performed this cover live for @cher at the #kennedycenterhonors,” Adam wrote on social media. “A lot of you have mentioned wanting a studio recording- so here’s a little holiday gift from me to you. Thank you for being the most loyal and dedicated fans this queen could ask for!”

Back in September, Adam released a six song EP, Velvet: Side A, a loving ode to 70s funk and rock & roll–but with a modern twist. After the album was released in September, Adam began posting live performances of the songs on his Youtube channel. The first was a gorgeous rendition of the ballad, “Closer to You.”
