In a new feature for Attitude Magazine, 80s fashion and musical icon Boy George interviewed Adam Lambert. The two chatted about Queen, Adam’s upcoming projects and more.
The two artists met years ago. “I was DJing in this dreadful club, you popped in,” said George. They have been friends ever since. They are such great pals, George gifted the bowler hat he was wearing to Adam. After politely refusing the gift, Adam graciously accepted it after George insisted.
A few interesting tidbits from the piece:
On writing new music with Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor:
Roger Taylor recently told Mojo Magazine that he, Adam and Brian May wrote a “pretty damn good song” but May suddenly lost interest in it. Of course the press went crazy. “The only time we ever get asked that is when the media asks,” said Adam, who has been fronting the band on tour for more than a decade. “It definitely… it could be great,” Adam said about recording a new song. “I know Brian’s gone down the route of wondering about it. He and I are on the same page. But what is it, really? Is it Queen?”

George insisted that “It’s the essence of Queen!” and used the example of how how when he draws someone, he doesn’t copy exactly what’s there.”
“Of course, that’s the most positive, idealistic way of looking at it,” Adam replied. “I love that. On the other hand, I wouldn’t want to let anybody down, to fall short of what a brand-new Queen song would sound like.”
On the musical Adam has been writing:
“It’s about a real-life person who’s a bit obscure,” is how Adam described a musical he’s been developing. “Writing music for someone else’s story has been really interesting. It takes place in the 70s. I love that era. I’ll be putting out an album, linked to the musical. A concept album, where I’m performing it.”
Coming up for Adam: Queen + Adam Lambert live dates in the UK in May and June before they head to Europe. Additionally, Adam is judging a new ITV talent show, Starstruck which will begin airing 2022. Plus, he’s dating a man named Oliver Gliese, the details of which he chooses to keep private. “I’m very happy, thank you,” is all he offered on his personal life.
