The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Adam Lambert’s 3rd studio album could be an all-8o’s cover album.
The Hollywood Reporter has gathered some potentially major intel on what could be the follow-up to 2011’s Trespassing. According to sources, Lambert’s label, RCA Records, is pushing for an all-covers album. Specifically from one highly influential decade: the 1980s.
A rep for the singer tells THR, “Nothing has been determined yet,” but acknowledges that the idea of a concept album of songs from another era is just one of several currently being bandied about.
Adam’s signature performance during the American Idol season 8 competition, where he ultimately landed as runner-up, was the Tears For Fears song, “Mad World.” He also has covered the band’s “Shout” in live shows. And he has fronted the 70/80s legendary band, Queen in a series of shows overseas.
Adam’s success on Idol was launched on songs from other eras, so it’s not surprising that RCA would suggest he do a cover record. While, an album of awesome 80’s hits would be cool, I wonder if it’s too soon in his career to do a legacy album. I wonder if Adam is fighting to release another album of dance-pop originals? With EDM so hot right now, I don’t see why he wouldn’t continue to achieve pop success.
