American Idol opened with a clip of Adam performing “Mad World” on April 7 2009. That was during his iconic run on the show. Cut to 2016, and Adam updates the song for the Idol stage, but the performance is still as beautiful as ever, with even more nuance than the original. And NO DVR cut off! (Remember when the show ran late and those who were watching on DVR found the tape ending before his performance? Good times!)
