America’s Got Talent 2023 Audition: BJ Griffin sings soulful Al Green cover while playing electric cello
BJ Griffin, a trained cellist is done holding himself back, he tells the America’s Got Talent judges panel before his audition.
In an early release clip from Tuesday’s show, BJ declares that he came to AGT to win and “achieve my dream of sharing healing through my music with the world.”
He’s devoted himself to a music career, even quitting football in high school, “a hard decision” because he felt his parents wanted him to pursue sports. “In my heart, I wanted to be a musician,” he says.

BJ is not only a cellist, but a singer as well. He performs Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together” as he accompanies himself on the electric cello. He’s soulful in an old school kind of way. But he sings more than he plays the cello, as if it’s hard to do both at once. It probably is! Watch the clip below.
BJ is a viral star
Not mentioned in the clip, BJ is also a diver who posts videos of himself underwater. Most of the clips are inspirational with some going viral, including one that has 1.7 million views and 424K likes. He also was a finalist of the Sea Level Singer-Songwriter competition, and his band BJ Griffin and the Galaxy Groove has been a supporting act for Lionel Richie, Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, and more.
