America’s Got Talent Auditions end with Chibi Unity earning the “group” Golden Buzzer: Sofia Vergara calls them “The Best Dance Act” she’s seen.
America’s Got Talent Season 18 auditions wrapped up after 9 weeks with more unique acts. Global talents have been on display and many wowed the judging panel of Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, Heidi Klum, and Howie Mandel. (Read our Recap)
However, this week felt lackluster compared to previous audition episode. After all, three audition segments were spent on a joke act. Even considering that, the night ended with a bang with one of the best auditions of the season.
America’s Got Talent 2022 winners Mayyas inspired Chibi Unity
This audition came from dance crew, Chibi Unity, who hails from Niigata, Japan. When the members were 13-17 years old in 2020, they competed on NBC’s World of Dance Season 4, where they made it to the duels and were eliminated there.
A member from the group explained that they entered the show because they were inspired by the Mayyas after their victory last season. Simon noted that Mayyas are the “best dance act” the show has ever had. When asked if Chibi is better, the member dodged Simon’s question, before proceeding to perform.
The act starts with one member front and center with the other members behind a curtain, dancing as shadows. There is a lot going on and the energy level is high. It goes from being a bit eerie and ominous to an upbeat number in mere seconds. The group takes off their sweatshirts, they have a bit of a dance battle, before revealing that in the pile of sweatshirts, shockingly, is a member, and she proceeds to have a solo. The movements of the group are in sync making this audition one of the most thrilling of the season. Additionally, the pop punk song choice served as a perfect backdrop to the performance. The whole number was very well thought out and displayed several dance styles and techniques. The unpredictability of this group has men wondering, “what will the do next?”
The group Golden Buzzer goes to Chibi Unity!
The performance ends with a standing ovation from the judges and audience. Howie exclaims, “they are amazing,” adding, “the dance category this year on Season 18 is off the charts, but you took it to another level”. Heidi called the whole audition, “unexpected” and “dynamic.” Sofia got “goosebumps,” calling it “the best dancing” she’s ever seen. This is an interesting comment, given she was the one who awarded last season’s winner, Mayyas a golden buzzer. Simon calls it “so incredible,” which leads him to call for a collective golden buzzer. All four judges and host Terry Crews hit the buzzer, sending Chibi Unity to the live shows. The group is thrilled.
Chibi Unity was the best audition of the night. Other intriguing acts included the acrobatic duo Morgan & Roxi, who add to a long list of talented acrobats this season, and magician Kevin Li who showcased strong showmanship within his act. The talent is strong this season, and Chibi Unity only adds strength to the already fantastic list of golden buzzers and the other great acts we have seen this season.
