America’s Got Talent 2024: Former Prince New Power Generation Singer Liv Warfield Won’t Quit, Earns Simon Cowell’s Golden Buzzer
America’s Got Talent Season 19 auditions continued on Tuesday night with a Golden Buzzer filled episode. It was the second episode that featured not one, but two Buzzers. The first Buzzer of the night went to singer Liv Warfield who closed the first hour of the show. (Read our Recap)
Liv is a 44-year-old versatile rock and soul singer from Peoria, Illinois who has been dreaming of this moment since she started singing as a kid. She told the judges she has shared the stage with Prince and Heart’s Nancy Wilson. Simon Cowell asked her how she is finding the music business to which she responded, “the industry is really hard because things have changed over time, but I continue to push.” She added, “I want to inspire people because I haven’t quit, and I won’t.”
Liv sang a fiery original titled “Stare” accompanied by a full band which included horns. From the moment she opened her mouth, you can hear the throwback influences in Liv’s sound and the incredible control she has over her big booming voice. The upbeat number was a risk for an audition, but she still showed off her voice. I hope that, in her next performance, she can show layers by stripping it back and revealing even more of her vocal ability, because it’s obvious she has incredible vocal talent.
Simon Cowell gave Liv his Golden Buzzer saying it felt like he was “punched in the face” by her vocals
As the judges stand, host Terry Crews exclaimed, “what a voice!” Simon said, “I have a big problem, that wasn’t long enough,” adding that he felt like he was “punched in the face” by her voice in a good way. He continued, saying “I can’t give you a yes, I’ve got to give you one of these” before hitting the Golden Buzzer. Liv thanked Simon as they shared a moment on stage. “We all do it because we love it so much. We live for the music,” she said.
The other Golden Buzzer of the night, Sky Elements took the audience outside for their performance where they showcased their drone display, It included creating Simon’s face and the AGT logo in the sky. The audience and judges–including Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum and Sofia Vergara–gushed over this act which led to the announcement of the second golden buzzer with the group receiving Simon’s second golden buzzer of the night.
Outside of Golden Buzzers, Phillip Lewis brought his A-game with one of the best baton twirling acts I have ever seen. And Sabrina may be one of the unique dance acts of the season that could go very deep as their audition routine felt finals ready.
