Judge Mel B. hit her golden buzzer for Susan Boyle, and now the Britains Got Talent singer will be performing in the Americas Got Talent: Champions finale.
Susan sings “I Dreamed a Dream” from the Broadway musical Lés Miserables. It’s the song that captured judge Simon Cowell’s heart when she came in second place on Britain’s Got Talent in 2009,
“My mother was very supportive of my singing,” Susan explains in the video package. “She encouraged me singing…she died in 2007. My mother wanted me to chase my dream. I made a promise to her that I would do that. Without my mother, I wouldn’t be the singer that I am today.”
“I wanted to compete on the Champions,” Susan says, “Because it’s a challenge and I love a challenge. This is my opportunity to have that promise fulfilled…I would love to win.”
The singer’s triumphant performance receives a standing ovation. Mel B. said she’d hit her button over and over again for her. “I have goosebumps on my goosebumps!” says Simon. “Oh my God Susan, that really really took me back all those years. I can remember vividly how disgusting I was on the day before you sang. And then what you did and what happened afterwards. To end the show, it has been an amazing night. It was fantastic. You’re a champion.”
From the judges comments, it looks like Susan is set to perform last.
The schtick on BGT was Simon being turned off by Susan’s aga and appearance, only to be completely won over by her performance. Her BGT audition turned into a viral video classic.
Remember this?
“I enjoyed every second,” Susan said about being back on the Got Talent stage. “And I thoroughly enjoyed being in America. Thank you all so much.”
