Alex Preston Talks Move To Nashville, Future Projects

American Idol 13 alum, Alex Preston, is mapping out his future in music, after finishing American Idol 13 in 3rd place and touring the country with American Idol Live.

The singer was a student at the University of New Hampshire at the time he auditioned for American Idol last summer. He tells the New Hampshire Times Union Leader that his studies have gone on hold as he pursues opportunities in the business.

“Hopefully I am moving to Nashville in November,” Alex revealed.  Chances are, the singer won’t grow lonely in Music City as he may be living with fellow American Idol 13 alums, C.J. Harris and Sam Woolf.  The finalists all grew very close throughout the competition and tour, said Alex.  He met and began dating Top 30 contestant, Jillian Jensen, whom the paper confirms he now calls his girlfriend.

Of course, there’s family in Nashville too. Prior to Idol, Alex lived in the city with his cousin, Jo Dee Messina–a country singer who had a string of big hits in the 90’s and 00’s.

As far as his actual plans once he hits town, Alex remains mysterious. “I have something lined up. It is not set in stone, but I am going to be going between (Los Angeles) and Nashville a lot for writing sessions.”

Alex has put together a band with three musicians from UNH, hopes to have an album released before Christmas.  He’s been working on songs in his basement studio, getting them in shape for his debut album. He hopes to tour and do some opening shows around New Hampshire and Maine.

This weekend, Alex will perform at the 104.1 MixFest in Boston (alongside Phillip Phillips, Christina Perri, O.A.R and more). The singer will come full circle in a way. It was only last year that he appeared at the radio event after winning a contest held for up-and-coming artists. Now, he returns with some name recognition after his time on Idol.

If you’re around Boston on Saturday, the MIXFest is free. Check it out at the MDC Hatshell on Saturday.
