American Idol producers released 23 minutes of audition footage to TV critics. So far, the response is positive, noting the chemistry between new judges Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and veteran Randy Jackson.
From TV Guide
In the select auditions, which range from impeccably good to devastatingly cringe-worthy, Tyler and Lopez seem to have an easygoing rapport with Randy Jackson. Most notably, they are brutally honest with those not advancing to Hollywood Week without being brutal (ahem, Simon Cowell).
The tangents and antics are kept to a minimum, but Tyler provides plenty of laughs — remarking with “f— a duck” after one hopeful’s near-perfect performance and even flirting with a rocker chick/die-hard Aerosmith fan.
From Zap2it:
Fans expecting the show to suffer without Simon Cowell, fret not. Tyler and Lopez bring a fresh and fun energy to the judging table and even returning judge Randy Jackson appears totally reinvigorated.
So what can you expect from the new judges? Lopez brings a whole lot of look…. and she’s never looked better. With a new hairstyle and make-up at each audition, Lopez looks stunning, even as she sheds a tear or two when she is moved by contestants. She also seems to be thoroughly entertained by Tyler, who will without a doubt be the talk of “Idol.”
Tyler is kind of cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs and we love it. He often starts singing along with the contestants or dances around in his seat with eyes closed. After one hopeful blows him away, Tyler exclaims, “f-ck a duck!” and then adds, “Am I allowed to say that?” Lopez then quips, “Loop it to say ‘suck a duck’?” Seriously, it’s awesome.
From Fancast:
EVERYONE SEEMS TO GET ALONG: No conflict here. The newly configured judging panel is seen dancing around after one knockout audition and holding hands at the end of a long day. In every case but one, all three were in complete agreement about the singer’s fate. Twice they even counted to three and voted in unison!
NO TOUGH LOVE: Even the tone-deaf singers – once whipping posts for Cowell – are sent packing with a smile. “My mom loves your movies, ” one tells Lopez on his way out. The harshest criticism comes from Tyler: “Don’t quit your day job, ” he advises. Ouch!
Also, there’s a new Holiday promo for AI 10 that finally highlights the BAD auditions.

What say you Idol fans? I’m really looking forward to the new judges’ panel. Steven Tyler’s gonna bring the crazy, Jennifer Lopez will bring warmth and experience, and it sounds like we may have a reinvigorated Randy Jackson. Only time will tell. And we won’t know if the chemistry REALLY works until the live shows begin in February.
