American Idol 10 Top 7 – The Results

Stefano Langone is eliminated from American Idol

Next week…the songs of Carole King plus Bruno Mars performs. Crystal Bowersox will perform next week. That’s fitting…isn’t it?

Aw.  Ciao Stefano.  I appreciated the work he put into his performances, even if I didn’t always care for the the performance itself. Stefano is a good example of why it’s important for the judges to give good notes.  He was all ears, ready to work on whatever he could to improve.

Stefano seemed to know his time had come. If he’d squeaked by this week, he would have been gone next week.  At least he went out on a high note, which is always good.  Poor James looked like he was going to hyperventilate when Stefano was sent home.  They must be close.

Tonight’s results show was a little odd. Can’t say I dug tonight’s group songs.  Ya’ll know how much I loathe “Hey Soul Sister” so I won’t even bother to go there.  But “Viva La Vida”? Seriously? Did the producers learn NOTHING from Matt Giraud–a good singer brought down to his KNEES by the difficulty of singing that song. Even Coldplay  sounds like crap when they sing “Viva La Vida” live.  That was a trainwreck waiting to happen. Can’t really blame Casey, Jacob and James for the lulztastic suckitude.

Nice to see David Cook again. I read on twitter that he greeted each of the contestants individually after his performance. What a mensch!  He got off to a shaky start on the new single, but the band eventually found their groove. Solid job, Cookie and company!

Nigel keeps bragging that Idol is “kinder and gentler” now, so maybe that’s why we didn’t get a version of “The Huff” tonight (named in honor of George Huff who was the first to do it). The Huff is when a contestant is put in the middle of two groups of contestants and asked to choose the group they think they belong in.  Oh well, there’s always the Top 5!

The boy to girl gap is narrowing. If a girl goes next week, we’ll at least have one in the Top 5.  I was a little worried about that.

Videos, Photos and Live Blog after the JUMP….

David Cook and Katy Perry perform tonight on the American Idol 10 Top 7 results show. I’ll be live blogging all the DRAMA right HERE!

Over 52 million votes last night.

Jacob Lusk, Stefano Langone, Lauren Alaina and Haley Reinhart sing “Hey Soul Sister” *SOB* Please jeebus, deliver me from the wretched song. WHY WHY WHY OH WHY?????!!!!???

Ford Music Video is next. Out in the desert

Casey Abrams, Scotty McCreery and James Durbin sing “Viva la Vida” Hm. Well that was kind of bizarre. Don’t think I would have chosen that song for those 3.

Jacob responds to his fellow Idols calling him “Diva”. Casey holds up a horrendous “portrait” a fan made. Uhm.

Ryan asks Casey Abrams and Jacob Lusk to stand up. Jacob gets to describe how his music track screwed up last night. He decided to keep singing. Casey is SAFE. Jacob is IN THE BOTTOM 3

David Cook takes the stage to debut the first single, “The Last Goodbye” from his upcoming album, This Loud Morning.  So cool to see Cookie on the Idol stage again.

David’s mom is in the audience and she really really wants to meet Steven Tyler! The Idol judge gives her a hug. Awww.

Next, the kids attend a Dodgers game. They meet Tommy Lasorda. After, they go BOWLING.  Now it’s time for the SPA.

MORE RESULTS.  Dim the lights Kieran!  Lauren Alaina, James Durbin and Stefano Langano hit center stage.  Ryan rattles off the deets.  Matt Bellamy was impressed with James’ rendition of “Uprising”.  Stefano is in the B3. Lauren and James are SAFE.

Haley Reinhart and Scotty McCreery take center stage next. Scotty is SAFE. Haley is in the B3, but Ryan sends her back to the couches immediately.

Katy Perry sings E.T. Oh look, there’s Kanye West. Ugh. Pop spectacle has become so predictable, ridiculous and really really boring. And to think Katy started out as a girl with a guitar.

Ryan tortures interviews Jacob and Stefano back stage. We’ll be right back, AFTER THE BREAK.

WHO IS GOING HOME?  Jennifer says “It’s hard”. NO SH*T.   Randy says “big props” to how far they’ve come. Steven “none of them deserve to be standing there.” BUT SOMEBODY HAS TO GO HOME STEVEN. THEY ALL CAN’T BE BEAUTIFUL, Jeez.

Stefano Langone is going home. Jacob Lusk is SAFE.  Stefano watches his goodbye package. James is in tears.

Stefano sings “Lately” as his farewell. At the end of the performance, James grabs Stefano from behind and gives him a big hug. Ah. Sads. Ciao Stefano! (I wish it had been Jacob. Boo)

Look! It’s Cookie!

Safe:

  • Casey Abrams
  • Lauren Alaina
  • James Durbin.
  • Scotty McCreery
  • Haley Reinhart
  • Jacob Lusk

Bottom 3

  • Jacob Lusk
  • Stefano Langone
  • Haley Reinhart (Sent immediately back to the couch)
